Sky TV are wankers. We'll manage to pay our respects and jump on the train and just make it. But the ex service who are parting fully in the parades etc have no chance of doing it in time.
Sky will play lip service to it, money comes first for them.

I've got complete respect for people that served, memories of the war etc. Huge respect and I'm interested in the history of it all as well. I've been to various war related sites and places.

I'm slightly surprised though, about how apparently necessary it is to go to a monument to pay respects on a certain date and time.

True. But also the communal act of doing it feels very powerful. I've done similar to you, but at Remembrance day parade, I always get a lump in my throat.
