Vaguely remember the shoes off protest which was followed by the sacking of Bryan Robson. Scunthorpe were under the stewardship of Blade-to-be Nigel Adkins.

Barrow in the Cup - 7th January 1956. Won 5-0. That started a lifelong passion.
Not mi first game, reserves in '47, but was at that game 13 years old. Had programme, Jan 21 V Cardiff City with photo of Barrow game on front, which I coloured. It disappeared unfortunately with the passage of time. Distinctly remember we were at the Kop side of the Terrace, normally just Lane side of player entrance. Mi thinks we must have been late so dived in first opportunity as our approach was always from Shoreham St end for games.
We also went to the 4thR game at Bolton, 1-2 win. Howard Johnstone wrapped Nat Lofthouse, great international CF, up and stuck him in his back pocket. Figuratively speaking that is, I know what some of you buggers are like when the cogs start turning.
5thR V Sunderland. Snowy Satdi afternoon at BDTBL, was there with 51,515 others, John St side of Kop edge penalty area and roughly 3/4 way up. Terrace closed when we arrived. I remember a barrier collapsed bellow us. Some confusion, then to my amazement, as cool as you like it was hoisted above crowds heads and passed down to front being deposited over White Railings. Later and during the game part of the White Railings collapsed, just cricket side of Kop goal, play was stopped and injured laid on straw, which had been cleared off pitch from keeping it frost free.

Strange strips, believe both teams 2nd strips were white, plus some FA Cup rule that both teams had to change when there was a clash of strips, so Blades borrowed and wore Barnsley's change, blue with red sox and Sunderland borrowed Newcastle's home strip.
I have a print of this photo + details, somewhere and cannot remember the Sunderland player. Know the other three, LtoR, and a 99% certainty of the fourth but would be interested to hear others opinion on who the player far right is. 🤔
Bloody lost the replay 1-0, broke mi neck getting home from school, two buses and a sprint down town to Pond St to get home. You live and learn quickly following the Blades. Disappointment becomes an easy bedfellow, reign it in at the back I see the cogs moving.😔

To me.

48 years ago today I saw my first ever live game @ BDTBL.

Blades 3 - 0 Leeds

Flynn
Dearden
Colquhoun

Came down from Leeds with about 15 others in the back of a builders van.

I was the only one wanting the Blades to win having picked them as my team a few years earlier and followed them via tv, wireless, and newspapers, and boy did they deliver in front of a crowd of 40,725.

None of this loyalty points to get tickets nonsense we all paid on the gate and stood on the Bramall Lane lower.

My love of the Blades was confirmed and we've had a deep meaningful relationship ever since, and I'm delighted that my son continues the family connection having had a season ticket for about 28 of his 35 years.

The 8 hrs every other week spent travelling up to games together from Maidenhead for around 10 yrs as he grew from a boy to an adult (in years if not attitude) gave us unbelievable quality time together and a real bond.

This team has put me through all sorts of emotions over the years but the positive things it has brought to us far outweigh the days of negative emotion.

Thank you Blades.
50th birthday coming up as we enter my 51st season 👍

I was at both matches and in respect of the Sunderland match and your description of where you were standing , we could only have been a few yards apart if not standing side by side !

Unless my memory is playing tricks with me , I think I’m right in saying that part of the wall at the front of the kop also collapsed that day .

Yes it would have done with the railings set into the concrete wall. I'm sure there is newsreel of the game which shows folk being laid out on the straw. Don't believe anyone was seriously hurt
Strange, but probably most on here have bumped into one another, at some point time, with out knowing.

Wrexham at home, night match in BLUT, 1979. Drew 1-1, Tony Kenworthy from the spot for us. Loved them ever since

If we win by the same margin tomorrow as my first game, we're in for a treat. With Slavball it's possible 😍

Was this the game where we were well up at HT and it was teeming it down with rain and it looked like the match may get abandoned?

Sad to see so many RIPs there. Quite a few players with Blades links in the Scunny side too.

1986 towards the end of season, 2 - 5 defeat to Norwich. No toilet rolls, but I imagine it was ticker tape from Argos.

Yep think so.

Seem to remember Northampton scoring theirs later in the game.

Edwards got a hat trick, I deffo remember that.

Texaco cup august 1974 Blades - Man City 4-2, great entertainment and some good goals that day

First game 1969 august 9th my birthday 12year old ,3-0 v middlesbrough, on the kop against the front rails level with 6yd box. Went with some lads off our block told my parents was going with his elder brother, he fkd us off before we got on the bus, happy days. For tommorrow really looking forwards to game but also to see friends and family who ive not seen since norwich, bring it on.

Same season for me. Blades 0 Blackpool 1, Easter Monday 1966. I still have the programme.
My dad said my first match was against Blackpool. I asked him "What was the score?". "4-1 to United, you cheered Blackpool's goal", he said. Years later I looked for the 4-1 score in Clareborough's book but found that we didnt beat Blackpool 4-1 in the 1960s so I questioned my dad. His response was "I cant remember!". Maybe my first match was the same as yours and I must have cheered Blackpool's winner! 🤷‍♂️

September 1966. Blades 2 v Spurs 1. I was 7. Went with my Dad. It was a night game

Tony Wagstaff scored the first goal after about 4 minutes. Seem to think United went 2 up and Jimmy Greaves got a goal back.

january 1960 against charlton athletic 2 - 0 win for us on the bramall lane end with me dad

29th Feb 1972.
Sheff Utd 0 West Ham 0.
My mates dad took him and me, I was 8. His dad wouldn't shut up about Bobby Moore all the match - reight annoying.
My dad took me a few times that season, Man Utd, Liverpool etc. All the games blur into one really and I had to google to find which match came first.
I was too young I think to grasp it all.

For many reasons we stopped going after that season and I then started going on my own with my mates in the 1979 season. That felt like the first time for me with 'that' feeling when you climb the steps and see the pitch from the back of the kop.
It was against Colchester, we lost 2-1 (Bourne scored a header in front of the kop from memory). That was my first experience under the lights, October night match, and I was fully hooked. Didn't miss a home match for about 12 years from then
My heart is beating a bit faster now just thinking of walking up the steps tomorrow, geting to the top and the pitch coming into view.
It takes your breath away for a second.
FFS I am 57 years old but I feel like a kid, can't bloody wait.

I came to Sheffield Uni in October 1971 and probably saw my first game at Bramall Lane later that month. I can't remember who we were playing against but I do remember who accompanied me to the game. I shall be meeting him for a meal at Zeugma before the match tomorrow - something I've missed doing for the last 18 months. Feeling a bit giddy about the football as well :)

1994 - first game of the season I believe against Watford, we won 3-0. I remember we sat on the South Stand, I didn’t know I was going to the football, it was a surprise from my dad

Ref ordered us to wear white shorts cos Spurs brought their black shorts. We carried on wearing white shorts for home games until December 1966, and then brought it back for the 67/68 season
