When we were getting spanked every week? We'd be 3, 4, even 5 down by half time and looked completely bereft of a plan and even if we had one, the players were too fucking timid to try and execute it. That's us now, but in an absolutely awful Championship.

Since losing Jack O'Connell and the overlapping full backs we've got by mostly on grabbing a goal and defending it. We can't do that now because we can't defend. We 'attack'really slowly, we don't work when we're out of possession and with a back line like ours, you breath a sigh of relief when we only concede three.I

I've been a fan of Wilder but I think he's shot his bolt. He's picking weak teams, he's setting us up poorly and he doesn't know how to change it when we're shit. He's not motivating the players and for all his hyperbole, it's pretty obvious none of them give a fuck whether he bollocks them or not.

Interesting close season ahead, can't wait to see who leaves but scared to fucking death who he might bring in.

If he has indeed ‘shot his bolt’ we’ll find out fairly quickly. It fucks another season up but might give the owners time to get their act together re: a new manager.

Personally I think we’ll be much better and in and around the play offs…grinding it out or otherwise.

We’ve found out already no? 40 matches this season, more losses than Oxford and Leicester who’ve just been relegated. No tactical nous, already signalling the rumour merchant that is Danny Hall that we’re after absolute wasters like Phillips.. signed absolute wasted like Phillips, Rothwell, Hjelde and Hoever. Astute man management.

Not sure what you're basing that on. Defence needs a complete rebuild, midfield the same and relying on Bamford up front won't cut it. Wilder's showing himself to be a really poor coach and manager and if we get rid of our shit, and replace it with someone else's old and knackered shit guess where we'll be? That's right, in the shit.

Guess I’m an optimist. 🤔🤣

The owners haven’t and barring something unexpected Wilder will be taking us onto next season.

I can see both sides of the argument tbh and am facing another summer getting splinters on the fence.

Fair comment Cheeky.. though, the owners aren’t exactly forthcoming.

It’s a horrendous mix of inexperience and I think genuine confusion on what to do on their part. My choice is already made, it’ll be the same choice I made this season which will be “fuck spending clover to watch shite football”. I’ll watch it at home where I can laugh at how bad we’re being managed.

Don’t think the owners have a clue tbh. ☹️

Who could Wilder play instead of McGuiness, Seriki or Tanganga? He's played Bindon and we've conceded goals still. Burrows is our only out an out left back because McCullam is injured. We've looked a less solid without Cooper who is also injured.

We've played all manner of combinations in midfield and attack and they've been mixed results wise. He's played 5 at the back but that's not worked.

What he hasn't done is play more defensively like Blackburn did. We'd be tighter for sure like that but I don't think Wilder likes playing counter attack and sir deep football. He needs a pre season to bring in his own players and sell/release those he doesn't want if we can find takers.

God help us.
I fear keeping him will set us back years.

You mean we actually went forward at some point ?

Judging by this summer's pot of "gold" we are a selling club still/again in order to get new players.
We need a rebuild again.
Wilder in/Wilder out again.
Owners who dont seem to have any money or know what they are doing again.
etc etc

I cant remember we ever went forward.

Wilder is in his element with free transfers and loans IMO. We won't get Fleck or Norwood regen for sure but don't think we will go down either.

I’m not anti-Wilder, but I am very worried about the ownership. We might need to replace Wilder at Christmas. He might do well and be here for the next 5 years. I don’t know. But whatever happens, at some point he’ll need to be replaced and I have zero confidence in the ability of the owners to make good decisions.

They desperately need to bring someone into the club management structure who knows about football. Like most American club owners, COH came in full of arrogance about their own ability, making the usual assumption that people in English football have no idea what they’re doing and need some American business nous (and in this case some grifter with an AI model) to move forward.

The only good thing I can say for COH is that at least their hubris was punctured quickly with the disaster that was last summer. They (hopefully!) have now realised that they have no clue what they’re doing. That’s fine if they want to be just anonymous moneymen in the background. But someone has to actually run the football side of the club. (I’m one of the people who doesn’t mind Bettis and thinks he does a decent job. But by his own admission he’s not the right person to be running football affairs - his focus should be on the business side).

They don't need a new manager , they need a new way of running their UK Soccerball Company which is a little more effective than the Bettis & Wilder axis of power , which is too stale - entrenched in mediocrity & failure - and gives no hope of dynamic progress.
Or they need to sell the company to someone who really gives a feck and has some vision other than treating us to a burger and promising to bring back Billy Sharp.

We did go forward and had the best chance in living memory to sustain success ,
BUT ,
as in '76 , '94 & '07 ,
we contrived to throw it all away.
That's what kills you.
The staggeringly bad decisions which ordinary fans can see are going to send you backwards.
And the utter farce of the present ownership tops the lot.
Leaving Bettis & Wilder under virtually no control from above.
Talk about being "stuck" in the mud ...

I'll never stop attending but I do sympathise with your view.
And there'll be loads who'll give up attending , their hope eroded by our "up/down" disasters since 2020.
If we were a racing yacht , it's been like the Fastnet storm of 1979 ,
But under a novice owner & a series of incompetent skippers.
Pouring away money to the bottom of the sea ,
With apologise for mixing my metaphors

Was it a blessing we lost that play-off final then? Somehow can't see us having the same season Sunderland have had, judging by the utter dross teams we've lost to this season in the Championship.

I’ve been self confessed Wilder fanboy for almost 10 years now…But if he really wants to keep his legacy with SUFC intact…I feel now is the time for him to walk off into the sunset. Yes, we had an absolute nightmare start to the season, but in a poor league we still had plenty games and plenty chances to put things right. Our litte purple patch in the middle of the season demonstrated to me that we DID have the talent to achieve something this term…But some of CW’s tactics and team selections allied with his mardy outbursts have become very tiresome and uninspiring.
But if he does manage stay another season, he seriously needs to freshen up the coaching dynamic at the club. Fresh ideas on the training pitch, and fresh voices in his ear.

Ah thought you meant recent not 20 to 30 year span. 😂
