Hate to say it but I have a nasty feeling that things will take a serious turn for the worst this season.

Wage budget slashed, loads of transfer listed wankers on the wage bill who are refusing to shift, both parties at the club still at loggerheads and clearly still embroiled in a power battle as neither want to put another penny in, but yet wants all the control. A manager untried at this level, and playing in a league full of teams packed full of the classic but limited battlers who if they have got half a brain will realise that we have got a soft underbelly and will be easily turned over.

Last season I saw the worst United side I have seen in my life and I've seen some dross, but I can't even see how we can improve it, especially if there has been wage cuts and we are still lumbered with the same nucleus of a squad we had last year.

I genuinely fear the worst for this season.

Come on Brownie we have a good a chance of promotion, why be so negative! our budget is a competitive one why should we fear relegation.

don't we?. Just romped the 2nd division by a mile who knows the lower divisions well.show a bit of positivity you don't have to look hard to find it.

As bad as we were last season, we still managed to just miss out on the play - offs. Even with the dross that's still there.
Few more signings, coupled with the 2 we've already made. Feeling good about this season, And I've not said that for a while. (I know we finished 11th, but for the last couple of games,we were still in with a shout.)

Loads of reasons to be positive if you consider all the facts,

One of the most useless managers we have ever had sacked, as soon as the season ends, allowing the new manager to do the retained list.
Swift positive action taken by the board, by installing a manager who has just won the championship, in the division he was managing in.
Ten useless players released and seven placed on the transfer list, allowing the new manager scope to bring in his own players.
Two good signings already made, with the prospect of plenty more to come.
Nucleus of players at the club that are as good as anything in the division, such as Sharp, Brayford, Basham and Adams.
Although the budget has been cut, we have a manager in place who has already evidenced that he can win promotion, after assembling a team with limited resources.

After considering all the above I personally cannot see how it can possibly be worse than last season and I'm certain we will at least see a team that looks like its at least bothered. If it all clicks we could be back to the good old days with the Lane rocking, as we witness a team of players busting a gut, as they storm the division. All this while also playing in red and white stripes.

Having a bad day Brownie? No chance , if we were still under Adkins I'd be concerned. Not with Wilder, I can see a real hunger in him and a nasty side that quite a few of ours will be on the end of should they play at 40% like most of last season. Alan Knill will get them drilled into shape and the signings already made are logical good decisions for the club, they're good players at this level without costing an arm and a leg.

It's gone quiet for a couple of weeks on further signings is all your worried about. I'm happy to wait given the shrewd signings already made. Just be patient and see how the process develops.

I think once some more signings have been made and a few pre-seasons games have been played then we will be able to judge better. Although the club so far have done little to convince me that next season is going to be better than last season.

Much of our transfer business at the moment seems to be relying on the transfer listed players being offloaded first and who knows how long it will be before they all go.

Cuvelier was released, and he signed on with Walsall or Fleetwood or whoever it was.

He wasn't offloaded from the transfer list.

Too much "we have an excellent academy" at present - which gives me an uncomfortable feeling that the bank restrictions are pretty tight. Relegation, like promotion, is always a possibility, however unlikely. The squad still looks very thin in a number of key areas. Signings, or the lack of, will prove the key. Too soon to know yet.

Oh. I thought he had a year left. Makes sense now why Walsall have only given him a 12month contract.

So they are;
Kieron Freeman, Kieran Wallace, James Wallace, Dean Hammond, Paul Coutts, Martyn Woolford and Diego De Girolamo.

Other than Freeman that's going to be really tough, unless we accept the bare minimum for Diego and Wallace.

Whilst I'd rather we had one or two more signings, the perspective for me is this. Tafazolli might have been a decent part of the puzzle, but he seems to have chased the money instead and signed for Peterborough. We might be in busted flush territory just for now, but can you EVER see Peterborough achieving the heights we achieved? I really don't think they will.

The signings Charlton beat us to, for me minor pieces of a bigger puzzle if they had come here, there are equal or better options out there I'm sure. We move on.

I have a lot of sympathy for what Brownie has written, heartfelt as always. But I prefer to see it this way. We have a manager who has found an upward curve, and has an affinity to our club. He will at times be banging heads with our beloved board, who have put money in but spent it foolishly and knee jerked when some testicular fortitude would have been the better way to go. But that will be the case whether it's Wilder or Van Gaal.

I like the cut of Wilder's jib so far. If he can walk like he can talk, I feel he will drag performances out of even our more average players. They will be left in no doubt about what he expects, because it will be the same as what we expect. We might be on the bones of our arse, but we are still Sheffield United. The players would do well to realise this, and to realise that if they give everything they have, they will leave a mark that means more than money, cars, or slappers on tap, they will become heroes, living the dream that a washed up bastard like me still cling onto when literally everything else is turning into shit. People will talk about them long after they, and us, are gone.

Lets not stoke up the academy quote again.

I think if we look at the first team squad, we all know it will be made up of professional players who have played at this standard or above for some time.
The young players coming through Kelly, Brookes, Semple, Whiteman, DLC will make up the squad and be given time to mature into the kind of players that will play for our club in years to come.

Of course the team is not going to be flooded with these kids and anyone who genuinely believes that are deluded.

All the signs are there that we are entering a period of austerity down at the lane and we may have to get rid of a few before we can bring in much needed replacements, which is a major worry. While players who could improve us move elsewhere we seem to be stagnant in the market. How long can we hide behind the excuse that we were never in for X Y orZ as they are not good enough for us? I'll tell yer what if we do bring in more players they need to be the type of signings that make you say "fuck me" because the players who are passing us by don't need to be that good to improve this shower of shite, when does pre season start by the way? I'm sure we will be ready ............

Oh right I see, I don't personally see how that will be the case.

We recruited 5 players on huge wages with a squad of 30+ under Adkins

We now have 20 players including 7 on the transfer list. More than enough room to add 6 or so key first team core players, which would still only be a squad of 26, and that is presuming we can't offload any of those on the transfer list.
