The attitude is largely there but unless we acquire some more genuine quality I think we're heading down.
Not sure Reid would necessarily be the man in an Adams team but without someone to help create more chances and chip in with the odd goal or two, I can't see how we're going to score enough to stay up.
The sad thing is, how bad is this league. Hats off to Paul Lambert for organising a bunch of average players so well.

Spot on there Lenners. Norwich are no great shakes but from what I've seen of them this season they have a system that the players know, understand and believe in. With Micky in charge I've every confidence he'll get us to tick all of those boxes too but with the squad inherited he's got some real duds. I think once he's had an opportunity to stamp his Mark on the team we'll be a real force but whether it's in this division or League 1 I really don't know. One half of me thinks we'll have enough to stay up but the other half remembers the "Blades Way of fucking things up.
Micky's arrival is like a certain Dave Bassett's arrival all those years ago and we all know what happened there ...

It's not reinforcements we need, it's replacements.

Well said that man.
But Andy Reid CANNOT be over looked.Surely now that brittons wages are spare they can go toward reids wages for the rest of the season at least.
A centre half is also needed.but who`s available.

Brittons wages wouldn't cover Reids, and you're also assuming that Reid wants to come back.

He will be waiting this one out to see if he gets any better offers first.

i didnt say brittons wages would cover, but would toward bob.
as for him wanting to come back, then the club should be busting there gut to get him back, cos we need him.simples.

Thats the problem the club need him more than he needs the club. As others have said if it does happen it will be last minute.

Reid went on record saying that he wanted both a permanent move and a premiership move which i don't blame him for but if he didn't get that by end of Jan then he would come back if asked???

But why would he? I think it would have to be a scenario in which he couldn't find anything better. We would be his last resort and are becoming more difficult to sell to transfer targets by the week.

Adams wants more energy, getting the ball forward quicker and I'm not sure Reid fits into that.
As for the line about replacements rather than reinforcements, that would mean we have players other teams want.
If it's that straightforward, I'm surprised there haven't been more offers for our players.

I'm in agreement with lenners on this. It is a case of spending some money to get the right quality in, or going down. Your choice KM/TB. In an ideal world I would love to see Andy Reid playing for us again but I'm not convinced that he is what we need most.

What we need is strength and character down the middle. For me, a strong box to box midfielder (Michael Brown?) and a strong experienced centre half would make the world of difference. Until we bring these players in we will continue to be a soft touch.

It's blatantly obvious we need 2 or 3 quality players to give us a chance of staying up so why isn't McCabe providing the funds? It will cost him/us a lot more if we go down. And please don't give me the guff about the recession and property prices falling - McCabe is still extremely rich and far richer than many of his counterparts who seem much more prepared to back their manager/club financially. McCabe has always made an issue of how he is a fan, not just an owner. He needs to back those words up with action now.

A new keeper, a midfielder, possibly a LB (if yesterday was anything to go by) and some width. Hmmm. That doesn't sound too positive does it.....:)

UTB

If we don't get the right reinforcements then we won't have to choose between reinforcing and relegation, because we might just get both. I'm hoping that the bottom three continue to be shitter than we are, but whereas they have been pretty much consistently shit at least we've had the odd, all-too-brief glimmer that we might not be as shit as we thought.

Thats the consolation, the bottom three really are poor. I can only see Palace putting together some sort of sequence of results together, Scunny and Preston are as good as gone IMO.

A decent centre half and a box to box midfielder would be at the top of my list. If we could somehow manage to get Brown and maybe someone such as Taylor from Watford for the back?

Scunny have two games in hand. They play Preston next week whilst we have no game. If they win by more than one goal they will go above the Blades.

And us to play next month on there patch, we have 2 relegation 6 pointers within 3 days away that will tell us what we need to know.

Norwich only had about 3 chances all game and scored from two of them. We had loads of opportunities but only scored from one. There's the difference between being at the top or at bottom. Good performances and dominating games count for nothing if you don;t get more goals than the other side.

Hey Len. Funny how your computer was out of action all last week, after United ground out a result at Coventry, but it is miraculously working again after United got beat again!? No posts for 5 days after we got a decent point away, yet within hours of defeat there is an antogonostic thread. Same old biters come wading in mind.

I think the squad is just about good enough to stay up, but would like Adams to bring in some experience. An experienced centre half and a decent winger should do it. We need more options out wide, with Ward and Yeates looking poor and I think that an old head at the back would help. A couple more singings might boost confidence. Quality somewhere in midfield (preferably out wide) is needed as at the moment Williamson is the only player who can pass, never mid create. It might also give Ward and Yeates the kick up the arses that they need.

That is the sad thing. Norwich, Ipswich and Coventry (amongst others) have all come to Bramall Lane and won whilst looking so mind bogglingly average its not even funny. This division is....just....dog shit. What does that say about us????

Even worse, what does that say about our rivals in S6? Who cant even establish a decent position in the league below. What a joke football is in this city. Both clubs should be ashamed of themselves.

Much smaller cities (such as Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle and Nottingham) all have sides either established in the top flight or moving forward. Hang your heads United and Wednesday.

Leeds and Liverpool - 'much' smaller cities? Bit wide of the mark there Steel but I know what you're saying.

Not really. Liverpool is certainly nowhere near the size of Sheffield (about a third the size in fact). People around the world are under this false impression (mainly because of the team and famous people from there) that Liverpool is this huge metropolis. As interesting and diverse a place as it is.....big it is not.

would it be simpler to ask.. who (of ours) would you keep??..
umm.. williamson.. lowton.. err.. err..??

I aint got any figures but if I assume the population of Sheffield is 470,000 - you are suggesting that the population of Liverpool is 156,666? The 2001 census had Liverpool at 440k I believe.

Sheffield
Population: 534,500
Area: 142.1 sq mi

Liverpool
Population: 434,900
Area: 43.2 sq mi

The one thing you could say for Liverpool is that its far more densely populated (people per square mile). But with a city more than three times bigger in actual size and a bigger population, Sheffield ought to look at places like Liverpool and feel embarrased about its football clubs.

I am. It's shocking when the sight of your city rivals getting thumped 4-0 by a third division team helps to make your weekend slightly less miserable. Sad but true.

Apparently Palace haven't conceded at home since October according to the FL Show but yet they are still below us, despite the dogshit results we've been getting. I'd agree with Scunny and Preston being most likely to go, Scunny will say they are in with a shout but their home form makes ours look almost rosey!

Which means that Scunny will almost certainly beat us on their patch.....................

I take your point. The population of Liverpool is dense.
