This was my impression of Jones. I remember seeing him really put the frighteners on United when he played for Leeds on Boxing Day 1989, and thought he'd be a great signing, but there was nothing like that when he signed for us: there was a lot of clapping, some late tackles, a lot of standing around in midfield, and a decent long throw. And that was it. All mouth and no trousers.

It's a while since I've checked this but I seem to recall that United won every game Jones missed in 1990-1: the first 2 we won 7-2 (v Oldham) and 4-1 (Southampton). Talk about addition by subtraction.
