How much notice do you need to give the Football league when you sign a player?

Ie: could we sign somebody at say 4pm, and have them playing in a game that evening?

If it is same as any other league which in theory it should be you can sign and play the same day.

Thought it was 12 midday of the previous day?
Could be different for evening matches.

I guess what i'm saying is that, say we wanted to sign a player, and play him that night but not really have a huge amount of press there then could we let the league know about it pretty late?

Also presumably the league has to confirm the registration before he can play?

Nigel said something on the morning of the JPT defeat that he was trying to bring in a player to be able to play that night. Might be different for cup games?

Didn't Warnock once bring a defender in on loan, signing him on a Saturday morning for the steel city derby that afternoon at the sty, which we won btw?

His name escapes me

I remember him bringing in Davies before the game at the lane signed him that morning and he played that night?

Can you have emergency loans with hardly any notice at all ?

What happened when we got Ben Davies last season? that was pretty late but he did not make it to Colchester.

I'm pretty sure the registration has to be in with the fl by a certain time. for a Saturday game it's 5 or 7pm on a Friday and midweek evening games it's lunchtime but could be wrong.

I think the fl have to then confirm it but that doesn't always come until later, so possibly on a Saturday morning.

Why?

And why do they still use fax machines?
.....or do they?

Cheers, so if we did sign a certain player and wanted him to make his debut in a low key fixture, there'd be plenty of time for the press to become aware of it.

So you're expecting Ched to play against Crewe...?;)

Yeah I think so, although its not to say that he couldn’t turn up as a bit of a surprise. I don’t know if the Football League HAVE to announce it for instance. And if the FL and United were open with our opposition for that game, then perhaps it could be kept under wraps.

I was thinking about this after you posted this thread. All this attention that the Ched situation is getting, couldn’t he just change his name by Deed Poll to taking away all attention as the media would be expecting Ched Evans to be registering with the FL. It could also confuse all the Feminazi’s as they’ve been banging on about Ched Evans for all this time and when ‘James Saville’ turns up they’d have to change all their placards.

That's right it was Collins. I remember there being some confusion at the time as to which Collins it was, as there was an itk'er posting we'd signed him, who actually got mixed up with another defender called Collins
Danny Collins

For FA cup games if it goes to a replay the player needs to have been at the club for the first game otherwise you can't play him
bugger, was hoping the young Che Adams would play tommorrow, saying that he's probably cup tied anyway.

Danny Higginbotham signed on NYD 2 years ago, then played in the game away vs Donny. I was told they even had to stop at a shop on the way to ground to pick up some boots for him

And I can't believe there would be too many people manning the fax machine at the FL on Nee Years Day.
