Referee`s performance today

He should have carded Little for the first bad challenge on Harris and then gone off for the one he got booked for.

The third was actually the other similar looking player in Bristol's team. He actually went for his cards and then put them back in his pocket when he thought it was Little because he would have had to send him off.

Also, he should have booked their player for diving like he did Davies. He let the game carry on because we came away with possession (which was actually good referring) but then failed to show the yellow once the ball went out of play.

These are just a few of the points that really aggravated me today but there were numerous errors IMO.

I agree it was a very poor showing from him today.

The Little/Harris incident wasn't as you describe it.

Was analysed to death on Sky. At first I thought it was a deliberate elbow but it wasn't. What Little did was raise his body and left arm to shield the ball from Harris. Harris tried to tackle/challenge him for it and ran into the apex of the elbow.

At first I was livid but after the slow mo you realise it probably was a sort of accident, though I think Little new exactly what he was doing if you get the drift.

So when you see MOTD next week and shearer squawks aye there`s contact..penal`y.......just remember that in the eyes of a buffoon at the lane yesterday , contact by little on Murphy just doesn`t merit a free kick. Weird isnt it.

A bit like Chris Morgans elbow at Barnsley a few years ago....

That elbow doesn't show the incident correctly. Watch it back over and over on TV and you will see no intent what so ever. All the player did was get himself into a balanced position, he doesn't swing his arm or anything like that, he doesn't look around to see where Harris is. He simply stands up and gets himself into a strong, balanced stance....If anything Harris wasn't looking where he was going, he had his eyes down at the ball and has thrown himself into it. In my opinion nothing to see here!

Funny how when a player slides in for a tackle and accidentally takes his opponent out that's a booking.

As for Murphy, where I was it looked like a blatant foul and after seeing he had no advantage to gain he decided not to regain his balance and take the free kick. Why are players obliged to stay on their feet throughout a match, even when fouled? I haven't seen it again so I may be wrong but it looked like there was plenty of contact.

The thing for me was Littles reaction after the incident (may not show this on TV and I haven't had the chance to rewatch incident.) Why not make sure the player is ok straight after? Why swerve completely away from the players round there? Also his arms don't need to be so high to effectively shield a ball and he's not jumping or anything, it's dangerous play. Little looked a good player all in all, with his control of ball and change of pace. But his general nastiness really took away from his overall game.

He didn't. He had his elbow sticking out and Harris ended up careering into it, causing the injury. Certainly no intent and certainly no dangerous play either.
That's the way I saw it, looked alot worse initially but I'd have been well pissed off if a blade saw red for the same thing

The ref also seemed to not want to blow for handballs for either team. We had a couple so did Bristol City in fact one of their players just about caught the ball

Took a different view of this tbh. he didn't swing the elbow but it was up high and dangerous, you cant usually get away with flailing your arms about like that and no punishment. That would have been a straight red if it had been against Liverpool / Chelsea / Man U / Man C.

He should have been booked for the earlier tackle on harris and then second yellow for the dangerous elbow.
Poor, weak refereeing, as usual in this division.

The Sky commentators made some comment that they couldn't remember one decision he got wrong. He got the 2 dives by Murphy and Davies right so they loved him after that, in fact I think he was fairly inconsistent and poor, but got those 2 calls right for sure.

Was more disappointed by our play than annoyed by the referee after the game.

Agree with you on the diving, Murphy did have his legs taken, but he carried on a few steps before going down.

I'm afraid he didn't in my opinion. I watched it on tv several times and it was a blatant dive after seriously minimal contact at best. It was an embarrassing dive which fortunately for him may be forgotten after Davies' effort. Deserved booking and deserving of a fine from the gaffer.

Bear in mind I was sat behind it on John Street and was going off how it looked from there :)

Happened right in front of us, the Murphy incident.. There was contact, enough to make him lose his balance at speed and he had every right to fall. Ref got this one wrong as with the Little decision(s). The Davies one he got right.

I honestly couldn't disagree more, but it hardly matters. we should be beating teams like that and once everyone has gelled I'm sure we will!

That was Mad Frankie Fielding, mate. He's our keeper. He doesn't always catch the ball, I kid you not

Referee was good, bad and indifferent. Much like most at this level. Got some things right, some wrong and missed a few things. Can't say he was too much of an influence on the eventual result, though.
