Reed

I thought Reed was our weakest link in the first half. He gave the ball away a couple of times in the first half but fortunately Swindon didn't capitalise. I know it isn't fashionable to say so but JMac was immense today...I cannot understand why so many people give the lad such stick. Anyway, really enjoyable game and hugely positive for the rest of the season.
I agree Mcevely was by far MOTM

I thought Reed was decent too - comes short, gets the ball, and moves it on nicely - but I thought he and Basham both sat pretty deep for the first hour or so, almost as though we'd have been happy with a draw. We got more expansive as the game went on, but with Che having a poor game, I couldn't see much creativity beyond JCR down the right and Billy hounding their defenders. Not sure there's quite enough with Bash and Reed in there, but it was certainly an impressive performance from a youngster - nice hit from 30 yards in the first half, too.

It still needs Collins fluke for the opener, then the game opens up, and Billy calmly rolls in the second: game over. I'd vote Sharp as MOTM - I thought he was excellent, and visibly the best player on the field. Looked a cut above this division to me.

I'm absolutely fine, thanks.

Now, what's exactly your issue with the 18 year old, still developing Reed, who has apparently played very well today?

I have no issue with Little Louis. He plays for my club and I wish him well. My issue is with those who have him earmarked for greatness and international stardom. On what evidence? Little or none! It's Bladey wishful thinking. Ok, he's played for England boys. So have thousands before him. The majority fade away without troubling the back pages. That cuts no ice at all.

I saw an 18 year old named Tony Currie make his debut in the top division against Spurs. The boy ran rings around seasoned top quality players. You may have seen it yourself. There is absolutely no comparison. I'll get excited when Reed can dominate games in Division Three. Maybe even score a goal if it's not too much to ask? I've yet to see it. I hope it happens for the lad but he's not well served by the height of the pedestal some have put him on.

I think you can understand it. J-Mac isn't Bladey enough. He'll get no credit, but wait until he has a bad game. Others can play so embarrassingly badly they have to be taken off at half-time but that just vanishes from the collective consciousness and we pretend it didn't happen.

It's one rule for one here in S2...

Listened on the radio - they seemed enthusiastic about him today.

He's just played 90 minutes against one of the better teams in the division and we've kept a clean sheet. He must of ;) played a big part in that.

This was a big and welcome surprise. I didn't expect a clean sheet with Reed and Basham in central midfield.

Incidentally it has to do him the world of good to have an experienced and knowledgeable coaching staff. Despite what Keith says the games moved on since he played. I used to really almost pity some of the younger players in bygone eras who came to the club and just learned to hoof it varying distances.

Giddings also singled him out to Adkins which indicates a strong performance. This is the same as the first point really but the fact that he bothered adds a bit more weight.

I think this season will be all about rotation, and only a few players will be holding down a place. They'll all be taking turns. A bit like geese in flight :)
same recall keith saying he was like a little terrier for us getting stuck in there against there midfield his shot was class as well from 30 yards out

One good game. One!

Nothing like a huge Bladey over-reaction is there. I saw it coming, though. Come back when the lad has either created or scored a goal, eh? I'm pleased he seems to have played well today, because I support United and what our players to do well. All of them that is. I'll give J-Mac proper, not begrudging praise, because I'm not waving a Terry Kennedy flag.

The Bladey Little Louis sycophants were conspicuous by their absence, though, when he was rubbish in the second half of last season. Did I dream him being subbed twice, and rightly so, at half-time? Must have. No-one else remembers it.

Hope you all enjoyed the X-Factor tonight? Meanwhile back in the real world of football, where we need to win points and games......

Dear oh dear oh dear...how predictable, how obvious, how transparent some of you Boy-Band Blades are....

Ironside........Ironside.........

Reed will be a bit part player . He is not good enough or experienced enough to have a long term run in the first team . He will be too inconsistant for a serious promotion push. Also young Che will have a dip in form , and will have to be managed on game time.

Baxter for me is also not the answer , and a dip into the transfer market , may be necessary by Adkins.

Unfortunatley TK falls into the same category as Wallace and Coutts . May be cruel / hard fact of life , but sentiment cannot get in the way of promotion . You cannot build a serious promotion side around or with crocks .

Are we better as a squad with the likes of Reed . The answe has to be yes , but as a squad player , not as a regular .

Reed was very good yesterday. He won the ball vian intercetions and tackles on numerous occasions. He covered in front of the back four and also ventured forward on many occasions. On that form he should play on merit. I think NA will work him intelligently and he will become a very good player.
Probably not in the TC mould, but if you are waiting for another TC you may well be dead before one arrives!

I think he'll have a solid season starting in 20+ games in the league and cup. Hope he manages to make that 30+ based on performances but he doesn't need more than that.
He needs to work on most aspects of his game, particularly distribution, and finishing but his positional play is decent for his experience. Along with Che, one to watch but not get over excited about before he developed sufficiently.

Reedy is a great talent to have, he may not be the finished article but he's good enough to start fighting for a full time place in the first team.

As always this has turned into Pinchy having a dig at the youth and Sitwell doesn't need an excuse to mention Baxter. Love these Sunday's when we win. It's the Bladey way.

Just like to say Reedy was up there with all the players yesterday ,great mature display from him today , we must be the only club fans to slag a emerging 18 year old talent .thats right 18 . Anybody having a pop at one of our own needs a good look at them selfs .utb

All the players are "one of our own" when they put the shirt on, aren't they?
