Hi, new to posting on the forum but not reading it. Thought I'd do a post just asking what peoples thoughts were on Reed today and if people can see him eventually holding down a place this season.

Listened on the radio - they seemed enthusiastic about him today.

He's just played 90 minutes against one of the better teams in the division and we've kept a clean sheet. He must of ;) played a big part in that.

This was a big and welcome surprise. I didn't expect a clean sheet with Reed and Basham in central midfield.

Incidentally it has to do him the world of good to have an experienced and knowledgeable coaching staff. Despite what Keith says the games moved on since he played. I used to really almost pity some of the younger players in bygone eras who came to the club and just learned to hoof it varying distances.

Giddings also singled him out to Adkins which indicates a strong performance. This is the same as the first point really but the fact that he bothered adds a bit more weight.

I think this season will be all about rotation, and only a few players will be holding down a place. They'll all be taking turns. A bit like geese in flight :)

Thanks for the report, I'm hoping a bit of a battle ensues between him and Che for young player of the year!

Reed was a class act today and my MOTM by a country mile. His all round game play was absolutely spot on and I can't think of a time when he put a foot wrong.

I got a good bit of stick the other day when I said that Reed would be an easy replacement for an inconsistent Baxter. I can't see why Reddy isn't getting a regular birth in this newly transformed United because the way we play is very much suited to the lad. He will grab the opportunity with both hands now and Baxter will have to work his socks off when he gets back if he is to win that shirt back off Reed.

A completely self obsessed idiot would no doubt tell you that he is too short, too young & a product of our Academy, therefore is, useless, a Bladey Blade & can't possibly have influenced the result.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, apparently he has played very well & partnered Basham impeccably against a 5 man midfield.

Every time I've seen him he's class. I think he has to work on composure in final 3rd but he's 18 & will learn from his mistakes. He's in the side on merit, more mobile than Baxter too. No pressure on the kid but would be great if he got a goal though if he can assist others in better positions like Che v spurs then he'll have improved from last year.

Give me one good reason Baxter would be picked in front of Reed ?

One good game. One!

Nothing like a huge Bladey over-reaction is there. I saw it coming, though. Come back when the lad has either created or scored a goal, eh? I'm pleased he seems to have played well today, because I support United and what our players to do well. All of them that is. I'll give J-Mac proper, not begrudging praise, because I'm not waving a Terry Kennedy flag.

The Bladey Little Louis sycophants were conspicuous by their absence, though, when he was rubbish in the second half of last season. Did I dream him being subbed twice, and rightly so, at half-time? Must have. No-one else remembers it.

Hope you all enjoyed the X-Factor tonight? Meanwhile back in the real world of football, where we need to win points and games......

Dear oh dear oh dear...how predictable, how obvious, how transparent some of you Boy-Band Blades are....

Ironside........Ironside.........

Well he was down for the assist of the collins goal today for a start, are you counting that as creating a goal?

Who cares who took a corner? Dear me. As long as you lot keep closing your eyes and wishing he'll be a world beater....

Time will tell. I'll try not to gloat because I actually wish him well, but just like De Juve and many others, you are not serving him well by your risible over-reactions to a decent performance. One day you may learn....

Reed has 2 or 3 quiet games as a 17 year old kid ,Baxter has 2 or 3 seasons. Reed takes a corner and we score from it (as McEveley did last week) don't notice it or the dozens Jose has floated onto the oppositions centre halfs forehead. Fuck all to do with no Bladeyness ,everything to do with being a good player.

Every player has their good games and bad games. The majority of Reed's games are boringly average/non-existent performances, and by the looks of things he's had a good game today. I think I'll wait and see if he can replicate the form he has shown today as often as he should before I begin hailing him as the next big thing. Up to now though the only thing he's been able to replicate is the ability to pass a ball as soon as he recieves it. He need to take lessons from Che on how to take it upon yourself and take risks to change a game without resorting to the safest possible option. He could be fearful of making a mistake, who knows, but he needs to step up and not be afraid to take bold risks if he want's to make it at league one level let alone any higher.

Keith Edwards commented several times that he was mis-placing too many passes today. This surprised me as I thought that was one of his main attributes. Against physical sides he'll struggle I think, but I'm glad others have said he played well today. With Baxter and Wallace out of the frame it would be great if he could do a job. I'd still welcome a proven midfielder though before deadline day.

We'll see. Too small, too lightweight. Not good enough. He didn't have two or three quiet games, he had crap games. Why do you make disingenuous excuses for him? He was rubbish in the second half of last season. Carry on wishing really, really hard. He'll be great....

As for me, I'll carry on supporting my team, without selective vision. If McEveley plays well I'll say so, without resenting it. If Little Louis plays well, I'll say so. It appears he did today. Well done lad.

Quite what Jose Baxter has to do with this, I'm not sure. Is there an agenda?.....

I think there would several if your judgement was based on the Notts County match away last season. He's a good prospect but lets not get carried away. He's not the finished article, but very handy to have around. Not seen the game yet but Edwards was pointing out how many times he gave the ball away in dangerous positions. Doubt Baxter will be back in the side for a bit anyway judging by Adkins understandable reaction to the sending off. I'd go Wallace if he ever can manage 90 mins and two games in a week. The perennially injured Flo comes to mind too. I'm guessing one of the two incomers Adkins was on about will be CM.

That's the "come back" isn't it?
Who cares who took a corner?
Which is then rejected.

Given that evidence is being requested and then not acknowledged when it is provided isn't it reasonable to conclude that the reaction here is irrational?

There's also the point that corners can be well or badly taken isn't there?

I believe Jose has actually scored a goal? In any event, how good Jose is or is not matters not one iota in assessing Little Louis. Personally, I see another De Juve situation developing rapidly....

I'm waiting for an acknowledgement of his very poor performances last season. I'm also waiting for him to play a creative forward ball of consequence. Good corner Louis, have an assist. We can ask nothing more from a central midfielder than that he take a decent corner now and then.

I hear McEveley did well today. Can we have a whole thread in praise of him?

It's no wonder I despair, is it?...

Because he's short, at 18 years old. And we have produced him. There's 2 good reasons apparently.

You don't really know much about football, do you? You will feel much better if you listen to those of us who do.

Yeovil at home for Jamie Murphy's goal in the 3-0 win was a peach of an assist

And cue stupid, self obsessed rant about how you played Sunday League football for a while, so you know what you are talking about.

Try listening to the likes of Bergen, Sitwell etc who actually know what they are talking about. I also have coaching badges.

Fool.

You're embarrassing yourself, again. Are you unwell? I sincerely hope not.

Go and have a good night's sleep....

I'm absolutely fine, thanks.

Now, what's exactly your issue with the 18 year old, still developing Reed, who has apparently played very well today?

Lmaobob persuaded me to go to Swindon today! I took Mrs Silent and my younger daughter to Stratford Upon Avon so they could spend the day there (they enjoyed it) and Stratford isnt that far away from Swindon so it was quite a nice drive to there. I was expecting James Wallace to play with Basham (I have logged here not long ago and I dont know if he got injured again) My heart sank a bit when I discovered Reed had replaced the suspended Baxter but he surprised me with a very good display (yes, he did play a few misplaced passes but the positives from him largely outnumbered the negatives). He was playing in the role that Adkins had Baxter playing in this season's games, looking to pick up the balls from Howard or from any of the defenders. He was very good at finding space to make himself available to receive a pass as if he was thinking two steps ahead, he was easily more mobile than Baxter, much quicker when it came to tackling and did more defending from the front than either Sharp or Sammon. A 9 out of 10 performance and easily MOTM for me.

When Howard is taking a goalkick from the 6 yard box, Collins is always waiting outside the left side of the box, Edgar outside the right side of the box and Reed looks for space in the area near the penalty arc. Adkins is encouraging Howard to look for either of the three players mentioned and decide which has the most space to receive the short goalkick

I'm genuinely interested, because you have been foolish elsewhere on the forum. Sounds like you are a lover of hoof, they all have to be huge & athletes.

Fool.

I thought Reed was our weakest link in the first half. He gave the ball away a couple of times in the first half but fortunately Swindon didn't capitalise. I know it isn't fashionable to say so but JMac was immense today...I cannot understand why so many people give the lad such stick. Anyway, really enjoyable game and hugely positive for the rest of the season.

Reed was brilliant the whole team was but at times he was passing to people who had 5 people surrounding them instead of looking up and looking for another option, many a time I saw Billy making a run and reed had his head down and make the simple 3 yard pass to Basham or back to the defence. I think it was only 5 times he actually did a pass to Sharp when he was in a lot of space.
