heard Wilder mention this quite often in his interview yesterday, sounds like there's varying types of players in each pot presumably

Pot 1 - players who'll cost a fee for first team - ie O Connell
Pot 2 - players on a free but will command a decent wage
Pot 3- players as back up - ie Wright

If so this is sensible planning and sure as fuck beats chasing Dan Burn all season .

For once I'm happy we are recruiting from around us as well.

I agree Ls, now go and have a lie down for an hour or so.

Amazing what difference a few days can make, eh LS26? Your quote from 30th June below:

The back tracking and excuses have already begun - in today's rag it says we are searching for targets and other day we were in 'advanced talks'

Another season of mediocrity beckons as it's clear again the board aren't backing the manager.

What's wrong with changing your opinion based on subsequent events? Wouldn't it be a little stupid to continue to say the same things after facts have proven your fears unfounded?

I'm not so sure why everyone's getting so excited
We've made a few signings great and they seem like the type of players we need but let's be fair if we didn't we wouldn't be able to field a first eleven

Maybe everybody is delighted with the Board who are 'backing the manager'. as ever, after that, it's up to him.

If you cut your wage bill in half by releasing players then you have half the wage bill / budget to spend on new players wages don't you ?

I haven't seen any signs we have spent anything more than we generate from within

Really? Which position would we be short in?

Validity in what you say Judge, it's the next three that matter and whether they coincide with no movement of the remaining ones on the transfer list and even then beyond them.

The wage bill couldn't go around £6m but the key is where it settles. The manager seems happy with things anyway.

The 'doom and gloomers' who were so vociferous just a week ago were blaming the Board( as the LS26 quote shows above).

Time will tell plus whether the Board/ Wilder are lucky enough not to get a serious offer for Adams in the near future and I don't think they will.

apologies- missed your point.

So, people are excited because we're signing the type of players we've been asking for.

He's got a point to be fair.

We needed signing to be able to last a season, and let's face it, although it does appear we have signed good players (Fleck, O'Connell), as long as they were in the positions we needed, whoever we would have signed they were going to be talked up as good signings by our fans, even if they're not.

So the optimism was going to rise regardless of the actual chances of success.

but if we don't sign these players we are playing the youth team plus last seasons cast offs we can't shift aren't we ?

It wasn't that long ago , we thought we didn't have a pot to piss in :D

Wilder is only part way through his recruitment and he and Knill seem to say the next three are on the way. Not sure whether they will happen if "one or two" don't leave in that time, but they should do really. After that it has to be subject to departures, though I'd still like K.Wallace and Freeman to stay personally

What disappointed me was that Wilder was also being criticised for the slowdown in recruitment after Duffy and Hussey arrived

Wilder gave his reasons and I asked that posters gave him a chance as he'd only been in the job a few weeks. Criticise him later if things go tits up but certainly not now

Yep there's the old WWF 1-2. Starts with a "nice to see you've changed your opinion" then follows up with the classic isn't it better now you see it my way.

Sorry but we haven't kicked a ball yet and weren't we here last season cracking one off over how great the new bloke is and how the last bloke was a wanker?

While we slide backwards the same idiots still hold the purse strings. Personally I think it's a promising start but let's see.

Does it start like that? No, ah well.

Does it then say "it's better yiu see it my way"? No, ah hum.

Agree, let's see; glad I see that your way Bladesway;).

As an aside, anybody get any impression that the Technical Committee are involved in any of these signings?

Take Wright yesterday. Anybody reckon Binnion or whoever could ever stop Wilder from signing his old captain who miraculously comes on the market and we sign him within a few hours?

The signings of Fleck and O'Connell were impressive. The others? Not so on first glance, but I appreciate I could be proven wrong.

As I say, optimism was going to rise whoever we signed as fans of this club are so desperate for good players they are willing to convince themselves that players are good signings, whether they are or not.

Try not to get too caught up in it all, or too ahead of yourself is all I'll say.

Barney, try not to drag behind it all, or so far behind the momentum that you'll never catch up. Take a leaf out of LS26's book. That's all I'd say.

I'd rather keep a level head and take things on face value WWF.

It's the same with you every season though.
