Recent performances - what is your opinion?

You are allowed to have the opinion that the results are good enough but the performances aren’t

But there is only so long that the results will last without the performances IMO

The first thing they teach you at UEFA is there is a direct correlation between performances & results

When we went up last time every game you knew what you were gonna get you knew the tactics or at least the manager would get 7/10 from every player , players that weren’t as good as the ones we have now by the way

It’s great to keep the results going but my main point is it will not last , it will likely take us over the line this season

But next season you have to perform at your max to get a draw in some games

I’m not a “hater” or a “troll” I just don’t see this manager producing the level of performance required in the Prem as he has been very lucky this season IMO and I can think of 2/3 games were we have put in a 90 minute performance

That’s why Sean Dyche must be appointed I advised for corberan and everyone called me a troll , go and luck at West Brom’s turn around since he came in

Again as I’ve said 10000 times getting results will only carry you so far if you aren’t performing
 
Defensively we are very good. Attacking very good.
Its the midfield that we are hot and cold. Sometimes we play slick, quick football a joy to watch. And then we struggle to put two passes together. We would like to see a Coutts type that can dictate the game for most of the ninety, sixty plus at least. Berge was the one we all hoped would do that bu

t he isn't that kind of player. Doyle and McAtee maybe one day but not yet. Norwood can do this for short periods. I really think this one playmaker is all that is needed to turn squeaky wins into comfortable wins. Who that player is...I have no clue! Hopefully someone at the club does.

We’re getting the points but we have been far from our best since the WC break , as said earlier in the thread we look a lot better side when McBurnie is playing .
We will come unstuck against better opposition unless we turn in more ‘90 minute ‘ performances as we doing early season . I think the fact we’ve played a lot of the bottom of table sides has papered over the cracks since the restart
 



The last few games we’ve played well for about 20 minutes in the 90. The Huddersfield, Blackpool, Coventry and yesterday’s game prove that in those spells we are too much for most teams in the division.

In the other 70 minutes we are no worse than anyone we’ve played. But in comparison it feels a little… meh. It’s the contrast that’s making some feel like we’ve played poor overall, including myself. What worries me is that if we don’t capitalise in those 20 minutes or so we end up with a QPR type result, against teams at the bottom of the division.

That said, I don’t think we need to be worried about playing in this way against the better teams, arguably our most consistent 90 minute performances have come against these sides and our most fragmented against teams scrambling for their lives.
 
Having a hard time choosing an answer to this.

Performances have been better than some of the haters like to make out. You don't get the results we have over such a sustained period of time just by being lucky. We do a lot of things really well and have a lot of match winners in the squad. We're where we are in the league on merit and would be top if we hadn't had the injury crisis, in my opinion.

But I do get the criticisms on some level. We've seen what this squad is capable of but at the moment we're only producing our best play in spells. It's enough to win games, so you can't complain too much. But I wouldn't mind seeing us doing it more consistently. I agree with whoever said that McBurnie being out is probably the main reason for the drop off. I'm also wondering whether Hecky has convinced these players that they are a top team that should be going out confident of beating anyone.
 
In every game we've won we've been better than the opposition. Not one game we have won where we deserved to lose

What about we’re winning, but slightly worried about the performances, especially when we come up against the better teams.

The only win I’d argue in that debate is Bristol City away.

We were generally second best that night. They hit the bar and post a couple of times and we scored a bit of a scruffy goal with a rare attack.

We are performing well enough to win. We haven’t been lucky in any games recently. Even QPR you could argue we were unlucky not to score earlier.

We aren’t performing well enough to dominate and win 4-0 every game. But we don’t need 4-0 results. We just need wins.

So you are yet again talking nonsense.

personally i think its a lot worse. the diving and surrounding the ref is at its worst, as for VAR it needs scraping they still dont come up with the correct decision. premier is wank but its the place we need to be.
 
FWIW my opinion is that our performances aren't good enough and really need to improve.

When we keep the ball and pass around quickly we look brilliant, impressive, and no team I'm the division can live with us. We tend to do this for the first 20 minutes of the game and then the performance drops like a stone whether we score or not. I can't seen that all 11 players collectively just stop playing so is it the management? Are they ordered to sit deeper after scoring and defend the lead or the point (which reminds me of the days of "you start with a point etc" thanks Cloughie) or does it just take every opposition team 20 minutes to suss how to snuff us out and nullify our attack?

This is the most skillful 11 we've ever had. Lowe, Bogle, Ndiaye, Mcatee, Berge, Jebbo, RND, Anel, all capable of taking on and beating their man.

Egan, Clark/Robbo are solid defenders, with a solid keeper in Wes.

Norwood is our finest midfielder in 50 years and Doyle looks quality.

Sharp is the EFL's greatest goalscorer and McBurnie was looking like the striker we thought we'd signed before his injury.

Based on that, we should be attacking constantly and quickly and smashing teams, but after 20 minutes it's very laboured, slow and allowing the other team to have the ball while we chase shadows and punt it down the channels hoping Billy will outrun the defence (spoiler: he can't do this anymore) and hold the ball up.

Don't get me wrong, if we base the season on results then we're absolutely flying and we're having a brilliant season, but the performances just don't match the results. We've got some huge games coming up against the chasing pack and I'm hoping playing better teams will allow us to play better like we did against Burnley at home.
 
I hate to say it but we look a completely different team when Billy starts.

I also think we have struggled without a consistent midfield pairing, we do not control the midfield anywhere like we used to when we had fleck, norwood/coutts, duffy

Performances haven't been good to watch in some games. Definitely not as good as we could do. Definitely not as good as we could do without the constant injuries.

But we consistently defend better than the opposition and create good quality chances. Enough to win games. And that's what we're doing.

Anyone can fluke a win without playing well. No one gets lucky enough to win 8/10 games without doing a lot of things right. Even if it's not their best. Relative to our opposition we are consistently the better side by a margin.
 



I think people are whining because we all know these players can do so much better.
Performances have been well within the squads ability, which bodes well for us.
If we can play as badly as some think, beat teams 3-1 , carry anonymous players but still get 3 points,still be 11 points clear (12 with such a superior goal difference).
If the management can get the players coasting and possibly taking games easy to play even 10% better, what we all want is easily within our grasp, promotion is what matters right now.
Performances not withstanding, winning without really playing to our ability must be a good thing, short term at least.
