It would I think they’ve seen what certain German clubs are doing in the English market and are so far behind domestically that they’ve identified that as the strategy to get them back to where they want to be. Unfortunately for them they do t seem to have the contacts in academy football so are looking at emergent players lower down the pyramid.
It's not the worst strategy. Play on your main asset (the romance and grandeur of the club name) to try and pick up good players before they get expensive

It’s not bad at all. Their issue in doing that in the English market is it’s so saturated there won’t be a player under 21 playing at EFL level that prem clubs haven’t watched and English players are fairly reluctant to move abroad.

I've got a feeling Cash has a dual passport and Robinson is obviously American. Have they actually looked at any English players?

Technically not in terms of registration although Robinson and cash were obviously born and raised here. Hendrick was the other one but he’s Irish. It’ll be interesting to see in the coming years if they succeed and become a player in the English market or if there’s a few more failed attempts and they move on.

The rules now allow for points to be accrued (you need 15) based on where you play your club football and at what standard (extra points for how successful your team are and if they play in Europe)

sorry, misread your post. You're correct but nationality still counts, as do a few more factors.

Having zero international caps and playing half a season in a Band 2 league for a non-Champions League club is not going to get him anything like enough points, at the moment, to get a WP here.

We're not even looking at it

I'm extrapolating out the sample size to include Beerschot doing OK and <ali not being a joke (ranked 57 in the world). On that basis he could qualify for 10-12 points (we have no idea how lenient or strict the rules will be applied yet). And based on his reputation and current performance levels I think there's a good chance he'd get in, especially with hiom being on a long term contract

The requirements relate to where the team finished last season. Same with player stats. There's no chance imo. We could try under exceptional circumstances but I don't imagine he'd qualify. Next season, maybe, but I suspect his nationalist and lack of internationals would count against him.

I think he'll very likely get a cap before the end of the season. Mali will be worried about him chasing Belgian or English nationality. And Mali are 57th in the world, not 157th. They are a good side (relatively)

Work permit issues aside I’d obviously be interested in having him here looks athletic box to box with an eye for goal. Still young still developing but get in and let him learn the system get to know his team mates and learn from his mistakes in a season that now about development.

Please, let's not subject any more young talents to this system of ours. We're becoming a graveyard for up & coming footballers.

I’m not sure we are granted they’re not plug and play looking fabulous. But bogle looks promising I’m excited by what he could become. Brewster isn’t the complete player but has shown flashes granted he needs to improve and show consistency between now and the end of the season. We’re letting Ramsdale down a bit I’ll give you that. Young players are inconsistent they are going to make mistakes.

United have rejected the Milan bid
There is already a thread on this
Our resident Beerschot fan doesnt think hes ready for the PL as he has a tendency to lose the ball in dangerous areas in his own half. Hes only 19 and has some learning to do by the sounds of things
But we already have 20 players that have a tendency to lose the ball in dangerous areas in our own half. We might as well have one more if there's a chance he might do something good at the other end

I think he would be better staying there for the rest of the season and getting some more development in. Let's see how he copes with chasing for a European slot and fending off a late plunge into the relegation places.

He has to play there for 3 seasons, to stand any chance of having a work permit.

Sorry, can someone just go back through the
work permit criteria again please, I think I must have nodded off ? 😉

Nice to know I'm not to only one that's majorly confused by how the hell the work permit situation works now or previously. Apparently, not being in the EU means we should now get a work permit got him, which we couldn't previously due to EU rules. To get around the EU rules we've loaned him to Belgium, that very much is in the EU, where he can get a work permit, due to EU rules.

So in summary he now can get a work permit, unless he can't. Where previously he couldn't, unless he could.
All of which either is or isn't because of Brexit.

I hope this clarifies the situation

The simplied way I understand it is that pre brexit a lot of English sides would loan a non-EY player to a Belgian club because you can take up citizenship there after 3 years, become an EU national then recall them to the English side.

Post brexit, EU players now also need work permits to play here, so loaning him to Beerschot for that 3 year period now doesn’t guarentee we’ll be able to get a work permit at the end, which may have contributed to AC Milan taking a punt at signing him after only 6 months.

Ideally now we need to him break into his national side and if possible get him a loan to a league of higher stature next season where he plays regularly to increase his points quota for the new rules. We could then offer him a new contract at the end of next season (whenever a new contract is offered a work permit is applied for) but realistically it’s unlikely this will happen if we get relegated and we may end up being forced to sell.

we could argue we need him on medical grounds due to losing squad players isolating under covid rules Id have thought
if we cant fill a bench the need is there

surely if AC Milan can move him to italy we can move him here on an above average income

who voted for Brexit

News article today: transfer value of Coulibaly already doubled the last 6 months. Owners think he will further develop at Beerschot and will stay at least until end of the season.

Been watching a few of the games you guys have played. Seems a quality player who's in and around the goals.

Good thing there's probably only a handful of folk on this forum that can read Dutch, as the persistent use of "Sheffield" instead "Sheffield United" in that article (and the Broadbent one underneath) would have caused a huge collective cringewave across red-and-white households in South Yorkshire this afternoon 😬 Is that from Gazet van Antwerpen?

On the positive side, it's further evidence that as far as the European press are concerned, there's only one team from Sheffield!

Yes from Gazet van Antwerpen.

can anyone answer me this: theoretically if we did recall Coulibaly, and the initial WP was rejected and we had good grounds to appeal, could he still train with us while he awaits the appeal result?

Interview today with Coulibaly in Belgian sport magazine. He says he had better contract offers last summer from Galatasaray and Club Brugge but chose for a better suited career path: playing in Belgium as a key player in an ambitious club until 2023 and then move on to the PL. If this is the career path he signed up to and therefore rejecting higher offers, I think a recall is not on the charts just yet.

WTF are you talking about? Who's panicking? You were prattling on about AC Milan not being able to sign him because of WP rules?

Also, bringing the BBC and "Woke" into this 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

No mention of BLM though
