Here we are a month into the summer break from football a time for the players to have a well earned rest, a time for the clubs staff to hopefully bring in a few new players and improve the squad. The teams not involved in the playoffs have a distinct advantage of knowing where they will be next season three weeks before we do and two weeks before the losing semi finalists. Teams are putting this time to good use for e.g. Preston have just about signed a whole new team for next season while we have only published our released list.
While I know we need to bring in the right sort of player etc I do wonder how long we can afford to wait for existing players to decide whether to re-sign or look elsewhere. Time for Danny to get his finger out and slam a contract on the table for McDonald and friends tell em to sign by the weekend or point them in the direction of the door. We need to know now if we need to recruit a complete new midfield and strike force.
The concern is while these players are making up their minds we could be missing out. What a disaster it would be if in a months time or so they go elsewhere and we are left scraping the barrel to replace them, then there could be the usual United senario of Lowton and Maguire being sold just before the window closes and the uber reliable SUFC fax machine breaking down.
Come on Blades tie these players down to a contract and lets get moving forward, standing still is in effect going backwards. Others are recruiting at the Lane we have a wall of silence.

same owd ........................same owd ......................... no positive forward planning.

That's the state of play every year though MB
Nothing will happen until the ones going out have gone. We have to wait for them to make that decision - and I bet there are a fair few of them on their hols so they won;t decide for at least a couple of weeks.
It's worse this season because of the FFP - we have to shift before we can recruit.

The picture you paint of late departures and no replacements is the one I see actually happening.
Once McDonald decides he can get more pay elsewhere and the likes of Quinn and Lowton are gone it will be the start of an exodus of the better players from the squad, leaving us with those on high contracts sitting on their wedge for the final year - then going on a Bozzy

I wonder what the financial penalties are, in terms of exceeding the FFP ? ie. is it worth the risk or are the penalties high ?

Not sure if those penalties have been decided yet but if you break the Salary Management Cap you have a transfer embargo imposed.

We know from the past year that DW plays his cards close to his chest. When he has something to announce,, he will do so - not before.

On the other hand he, and the entire backroom staff, could be sitting on a beach somewhere, contemplating their navels and casting sneaky glances at the topless totty....

There's alot of reasons behind it usually. Players are on holiday, they could also be wanted by other clubs or are waiting to see what other offers they get.

There'll be negotiations in progress, I'm pretty sure of that.

Just had a look through all the transfers in League One so far, and we're 1 of 12 clubs that haven't confirmed a transfer in yet. I think there's only two that I'd have liked to have seen join us : Paul Huntington and Scott Laird. Plenty of time to go, no need to panic.

There are no financial penalties but if we don't sign anyone before 25th June, we then WON'T be able to sign anyone until we comply with the 65% rule. It seems unlikely we will comply until we've moved a couple of the high earners out which probably won't happen until the end of August.

Therefore, the next two weeks could be crucial and our only chance to bring players in.

A full two weeks since we lost at wembley ( nearly) and Danny hasn't rebuilt the squad
Well the suck the shit out of a dead tramps arse

And all other Leauge one sides have had two more weeks of knowing which league they would be in next season

We don't want to know about your sexual fantasies thankyou :D

Our squad will be weaker going into next season. Of this I have no doubt. We have lost a 35 goal striker and we have to fit into tight wage constraints.

The longer we go without losing our half decent players the better as far as I'm concerned. It is unlikely that signings that fit in with the new structure will be inspiring so let's just try and keep what decent players we have to begin with. McDonald, Williamson, Quinn, Lowton, Maguire, Doyle and Collins. Maybe Porter too, I think he'll be our biggest goal threat next season, and no, I haven't been drinking. Then get rid of any shit we can and any signings after this are a bonus.

If there are no offers for some of our contracted high earners, would it be possible for us to offer them a buy out without this sum counting towards the wage limit?

We could book the high earners into a Premier Inn and send the local bike round ;) that's one way to get rid of em.

No seriously we need to be rid of the high earners in the next 2 or 3 weeks or we will not be able to sign anyone, just thinking of Monty as our top midfielder and Porter as the main attacking threat fills me with dread League 2 would be calling for sure.

Where exactly is his finger stuck. It will all come together, I believe, honest Ido.

Danny et al should have been building for next season before we even knew we'd be in the play offs. Any decent manager, in any business has a short, medium and long term plan, and he builds as many variables into that as he can.

Plan A - Ched gets off, we don't fuck up and we get automatic promotion. Solution - look at getting rid of some shite and replace them with better players. Sounds simple but that's the managers job......with a little help from a more forward thinking chairman than McCabe of course.
Plan B - We make a monumental gaffe, even by our standards, blow an almost unassailable position and lose out to the grunters. Solution - look at getting rid of some shite on big wages and replace them with better players. Sounds simple but that's the managers job......with a little help from a more forward thinking chairman than McCabe of course.

Apologies for over simplifying but it does come down to two things, a manager with some vision and a chairman with....well, some vision. I think we may have one (the manager), but unfortunately the one who can make it happen (the chairman) could well be found wanting again.

Like he has for the last 5 years

I reckon Wilson may be on holiday (which is fair enough, if not now, when is he supposed to have some time off?). While he's probably keeping in touch with people at the Lane regarding transfers, it may take some time before deals are being announced (even though everything may be arranged).

The Star have used old quotes from Wilson in their articles the last week.

What's the best site to see club by club transfers for League One?

I'll resurrect this thread from a few weeks ago.............. still we have not made any signings even the 3 monkeys are still sat on the fence. FFS even the giants of S Yorkshire Donny Rovers have managed to pull off a couple of signings, how much longer are we going to let McD, Willo and Porter to hold us to ransom ???

i cannot believe we're being held to ransom by Chris Porter. if anyone should be grateful to play for us its him (and Monty). he is nowhere near good enough to play for us. the fact we're offering him a new deal and we have no strikers (meaning he'll surely get a game) should mean a player of his dubious talent should be snapping our hand off.

as for KMac, fair enough.

As far as I know, we have no games of any consequence until August? Why the panic over lack of signings in June? So we've 'missed out' on an ineffective bench-tester and a couple of has-beens who've gone to Doncaster? Good. Would they please make early signings of a couple of our lads as well, as soon as they get off their bikes?

They'll still have to wait until August, though, before good old Cotts, the Phantom of Wembley, can try out some new furniture.

I think it was Kenilworth who raised a good point yesterday about the three out of contract players. That DW perhaps thinks no one better is available, so is prepared to hang on for them. I do find it all a bit frustrating though.

We have one major problem................................Mr McCabe

We couldn't do it with money......I very much doubt we'll do it without.

We still need at least one striker irrespective if the "3" sigb or not.
I have a feeling dw has been told he cant sign anyone.

time to tell the 'three' to put up or shut up.. everyone won't forgive them otherwise

tick tock tick tock.

If it was upto me i would have ditched Willo & Porter by now & only tried to hang unto KMD.
Its not like they are not replaceable.
