In order of most obvious;

1. Winning 1 nil away, putting on a disciplined, organised, spirited performance.

2. Seeing imaginative set pieces being deployed and attempted well.

3. McCall & Freeman on the bench in high spirits, Ndiaye seeking out Heck to celebrate & Lester air punching at full time. Marvellous.

It all just feels so 'United' again, doesn't it?

I’ll just add a clean sheet to that list.

It also highlights how "un-united" it felt under Jokanovic. It was just never gona be right that appointment was it?

Our game plan this evening was absolutely magnificent.

We pressed high with purpose and the front 3 did it well all evening.

The back 3 were very solid and Egan has been back at his very best in a 3 - he isn't the quickest but we play a 3 better than virtually any other team.

Norwood can play in front of Egan as Norwood knows Egan will bale him out if needed.

Basham - just a legend.

Billy, up top - rejuvenated........again.

Our formation worked and for me we're going to see different ways of playing against different teams.

We're back on it now - we just need to stay calm, focused and one game at a time.

Wilder used to say " I want to be there or there abouts at Xmas" - well, we're a tad behind, but who knows.

Off to Preston ! Can't wait............once again for games to come around.

Defence were brilliant, but am I the only one who was disappointed at how we couldn't hold the ball? I called at half time I would take Gibbs White off and bring Berge on, I thought MGW was poor, it's OK flicking the ball on but sometimes you need to hold the ball and play it to another player, let's hope Davies and Diddzie are OK for boxing day, but what a fuckin result!

Formation was tweaked to 3-4-1-2 tonight. I think it was partly to do with Fulham having two defensive midfielders who usually protect their defence well. Our two strikers got in behind them and troubled their back four. If we had kept 3-4-2-1 it may have been more of a man vs man scenario in the last third.

Second half we changed to 3-5-2, then 3-5-1-1 at the end.

Good to see some of our not hugely popular players putting in solid performances - Robinson and Hourihane showing they can do a job. We had a pretty experienced line up, but I'm glad we have some youngsters giving us a bit of extra flair and energy. MGW didn't have his best game, but Ndiaye was class, delighted he got that goal.

Not seen Bogle win as many headers before.

Very impressed with Wes. Looks agile and confident, happy to go for high balls and his handling is great.

Thought Berge did well too. Some good attacking contributions and helped Bogle on that side, preventing Antonee Robinson getting forward too much.

Winning away at the top of the league is not a very "United" thing to do at all in my experience!

Joking apart, great night and excellent performance. No bad games and we coped very, very well with a strong team with the division's best striker. What a difference from the Blackburn game where we could not cope with the division's second best striker.

winning erases a lot of woes.

in a parallel universe it wouldn’t have been a surprise if a couple of wingers and a defensive midfielder being brought in generated some results and saw us challenging at the top of the table.

Think Slav ball would have felt very United at that point. But I agree that there were far too many passive / nothing performances to generate much good will

Good point, but the likelihood of bringing 3 players in January would've been hamstrung by getting the outgoings sorted first.

I wouldn't be surprised if we shift Olsen (cancel it, please), Freeman, Burke, Berge (depending on...), McBurnie & Mousse whilst losing Davies & MGW (...this) to recalls. That's a lot of outgoings to arrange in 30 days. I can also see us recalling Jebbo if we're confident of moving on at least one of Burke or McB.

Heck faces a tricky window and he'll need to make some bold decisions. I hope he isn't let down by a similar transfer window performance like the previous one by Bettis & Co.

No mate, me too. I thought we gave the ball away very easily all night.

A really good away performance. We didn't dominate but looked a threat on the counter and defended well.
N'Diaye showed some real classy touches and turns too. I actually thought MGW had a poor 1st half, gave the ball away far too much but he's not superman and I hope he's fit again v.soon!

Let's not get carried away of course, this win moves us up to 11th which would achieve nothing. It all means nothing too if we don't keep performing and picking up results.

Heckingbottom is still a young manager and as McCarthy said last night he's had some good experiences in his career so far. Sometimes bad spells like at Leeds do you good as well and it's worth remembering that Leeds until Bielsa were consistently a basket case going through managers inc. Warnock and just not really doing anything.

As for Slav. Feel a bit sorry for him as I think it was clear he expected more signings so he could change our formation and style better.
However you have to work with what you have too especially in between windows and I always felt that we were essentially restricting ourselves with many of the players we have at our disposal. It's interesting he chose to go 3-5-2 in his last game makes you wonder if he decided himself to revert back a bit or if he had even been informed to do so?

We were hanging on by the finger nails for the last 15 minutes because all we did was gift the ball back to Fulham over and over again. All well and good praising the backs to the wall efforts but a lot of that was self inflicted.

What did Freeman do?
