I'd quite like to gauge everyone's realistic transfers ambitions for the coming season, to use in a blog post.

Which three areas would you recruit in first?

Which three players would you target to fill these positions?

I'll be interested to see your responses.

I hear Morgs wont be back until later in the year which would make defenders a priority for me. We were rubbish in defence for most of last season and apart from the young lads we look weak there.

A centre back and a left back are the first two I would look at. Im not too worried about Simonsen as I think Long could step in if his form doesnt improve. Heard a rumour about Greer at Brighton who I think would be a great signing but didnt he play under Wilson at Swindon? 2+2=5 there maybe?!

We are ok in midfield but we could maybe use a decent winger of some sort. Maybe Yeates will play more under Wilson?

Up front it depends who we sell and keep. We can afford to offload a couple - maybe Evans and Henderson - and bring in one I think. Heard rumours of Billy Paynter which wouldnt be a bad signing I think.

Greer did play under Wilson at Swindon, but it was the loss of players like him, Paynter and Austin that led to their demise.

I thought Greer had / is about to sign for Palarse. Wasn't Yeates' contract ternminated before the end of the season ?

I suspect it'll be four or five players we've never heard of but as mentioned in other threads, it's going to be difficult for DW without knowing who's out and what he's got to play with budget wise.

Not too concerned about the middle if we can keep hold of Willo and / or Quinny but we need a winger or two and definitely an experienced CB. The rest will depend on who leaves.

That would be a fairly controversial move by Greer given that Brighton seem to be on the up; Palace are perennial strugglers and there's a real rivalry between the two clubs.

Yeates' contract was rumoured to have been terminated but that was when Adams was in charge and nothing was ever made official. I would suspect that any truth would be along the lines of "you're free to find yourself a new club in the summer, Mark" rather than ending the contract and paying up the last 18 months.

Yeates is still shown as being in the first team squad on the club site.

Out ................anybody
In ....................no body worth having

If yer mad now yer'll be madder soon !

My guess is that Wilson we re-assess his position within the squad seeing as Mickey is the one he had a problem with. My guess is that he'll want to leave

Paul Ifill anyone? Ex-player and injury prone its usually the type we go looking for. :)

Really difficult Soton, as it depends on who goes.

I would like to see Ertl stay (and paly him at CB with Maguire), Willo stay (and play with Dave Mac in CM) and Hendo stay (to play up top with Slew/or even Boggy).

Three areas to strengthen for me would be:

Goalkeeper
Central defence
Flanks

But this depends on who well sell during the summer. It is too difficult to call at the moment. If Quinn, Willo and Monty go then we need a CM. Same as if Hendo, Boggy and Slew go then we will need strikers.

The only things that I can say that I would like to see at the moment is a type of player. I would expect Wilson to sign players with some of the following attributes:
- pace
- creativty/flair
- the ability to play football/pass
- experience of the lower leagues
- hungry young players

What we need to get away from is overpaid cloggers. People who work hard, but have limited ability. Unfortunately we have filled the side with well paid, limited, unskilled, work hard ty hard types. I want to see a shift to players who look comofrtable on the ball, have flair or creativity, can pass, have pace and are hungry for success.

Joe Murphy, David Mirfin. Would also have liked to added Will Hoskins but he has joined Brighton unfortunatley.

All interesting stuff.

I really think we need a striker who can get us 20+ goals a season.

Also, think a lot of what we need will depend on who goes!

I'd prioritise:

- a centre half with pace. Doesn't have to be the best in the air - we've got Maguire and Morgan for the big men but we're chronically slow at the back.

- a pacy/tricky winger. Again, doesn't have to produce the best crosses in the world but we need someone quick and skilful enough to turn defences and get them worried.

- a left back. Full back is an underrated position which we've too frequently tried to fill with centre halves and that's not worked at all.

As for who could fill those roles, I don't know.

We all know that can be taken with a pinch of salt then.

As for three players to fill the positions we need and realistic targets, that's a real tough one.

The first position I would like us to fill is in the middle of the park. I feel we have always lacked someone who can get from box to box and is a real presence in the centre, someone who you wouldn't like playing against if you were the opposition. As to who can fill that role I am not too sure. Isiah Osbourne has been released from Villa, he was at the Pigs last season so not really seen much of him, but he seems to be big and athletic. Could possibly drop to L1 but a few championship sides were sniffing in January.

The next would be a centre half with pace like already stated. Never heard of Greer but why would he want to come to us when Brighton seem on the up?Again struggling to think of names, its really hard to think of realistic players. Could chuck a few names in like Gabbidon and Parnaby who have both been released I think from West Ham & Birmingham. Not sure how fast they are though.

The other is a tough decision between a solid full back and a striker. I think we need to see who we offload up top before we start speculating which strikers need to come in so I will go for a solid full back. Mattock could return and I think he would be decent at this level.

We need to go down the Arsenal route and get a few ******** in. Need to be big and strong in league 1 and with this set of muppets we`re going down again unless we do.

Greer did play under Wilson at Swindon, but it was the loss of players like him, Paynter and Austin that led to their demise.

Swindon Demise had nothing to do with Paynter /Austin / Greer Leaving. , Our demise started when we were going for the play offs , we looked odds on for automatic promotion then we fell apart ,

You will find with Wilson he will have a good start then lose it...stupid substitutions , no plan B , playing players out of position.

Paynter had 1 good season in 3 with us , Greer was slow , prone to errors ( his sending off in the play off semi) , Austin was a big time charlie who created havoc in the dressing room...

dont look for too many good signings , of those we signed at the beginning of last season...
Prutton , Sheehan and Rose were failures , Ferry and Caddis were signed and then not played

Good Luck you are going to need it next season

I take it that we wont be hearing from Plug again after that comment!

What? You honestly belive we are going to be competetive next year without fresh faces?

Deluded. Probably a pig troll.

with the goals shipped last season i'd hope too that a defence along with goalkeeper are priority. Would like to see some old heads brought in as we've had success when these types of players brought in i.e unsworth, short, luketti. Joe Murphy released from scunny would be my choice for keeper.

Think we have a very good league one sqaud right now so it'd just be like for like. It was managers that sent us down last year.

Just a polite reminder following a post earlier in this thread which I've now edited (it's only this sort of extreme occasion where we'll edit the content of someone post) - Racism will absolutely not be tolerated on here in any shape or form.

I have a feeling [with all the wisdom of one who's seen him a grand total of once!] that David McAllister will prove to be just the player you're looking for. A number of us would like to see him paired with Willo. Both have a number of strings to their bows, unlike the present encumbents.

Sounds like he is the right man for us then. :)

Hope your right, he did look good against Bristol, decent shot too. Lets hope he gets in the first team next season.

Wednesday fan trying to wind us up? Or true Swindon fan feeling sorry for us...

I see Andy Taylor is back running, so it's possible he'll be back ahead of August - he's played at this level before, and should be fine in my opinion. I wouldn't have said a left back's a priority.

If we can shift Simmo, I'd make a long-term number 1 a priority. We really need to look at League 1 and 2 and think who could be the next Paddy Kenny, bargain-wise.

One more centre-half (Mirfin would do), and some decent width is definitely a priority - and pace is very-much needed.

I know quite a few on here couldn't stand him, but the times I saw him he looked OK. Has he got a year left on his contract?
