Realistic Expectations For Next Season?

Interesting how everyone applauds the idea of CW taking no nonsense and kicking lazy, uncommitted or troublesome arses.

Nigel Clough was roundly criticized for taking exactly the same approach, especially to De Juve who quite clearly needed exactly that (and still does)

Funny old world isn't it?....

Nigel Clough was criticised for play shit, mind numbing, negative, dull football against awful football teams despite having a blank cheque for football signings.

A blind monkey could see this.

Clough seemed obsessed with discipline, was extremely petty and regularly fell out with players and offered them no route back.

Some how I feel that those bollocked by Wilder will bust a gut to get back into a side that is flying.

Clough held grudges. That much was perfectly clear.
Wilder will see if a change in attitude results from being dropped.
Clough wasted players by binning them completely and offering no reconciliation then signing players who weren't fit enough when they arrived and trying to play them fit.
Adkins has done the same with unfit players coming in. Playing by reputation as opppsed to real performance and capability.

Wilder will expect application and honesty and will give it in return.

Should be aiming for nothing less than champions.

Totally agree - Sean Dyche was good on this yesterday about having a goal and working constantly to remind the players that that is what the expectation is and hence their training/behaviour and performance has to reflect this.

My realistic expectations? Promotion. If we really are going to rely on a fair number of the u21's then I have no idea where we'll actually finish mind.

Lets hope there's a few more ooohs and aaahs than we had this year eh.
ooooh aaaah arl agree wi that

Unfortunately Pinchy is not a blind monkey!

Simply pointing out the usual Bladey double-standards. Clough was trying to make De Juve into a grown-up professional footballer. Adkins tried as well. The boy wonder preferred the advice of that football genius Daft Daddy De Juve.

He'll end up non-league and that's what he deserves.

The squad has got poorer and poorer every year we've been in this wretched division.
Next season we start without Murphy, Baxter, no sign of Edgar or Baptitse signing.
We still have a barely scoring sluggish midfield, a lot of the players (out of sight on loan) are not off the books and are still here, likewise the perma crocks.
We still have a piss poor squad, with barely 2 or 3 players being anything like Championship standard.
The last three league seasons we've been 28, 21 and 20 points respectively off the auto promotion spot.
Yet, the expectations are once again being falsely raised.
Throw in we've probably lost numerous potential signings by a manager who know the shit he inherited were a mile away from a promotion side and yet wasn't given enough time by impatient fans and board members demanding instant success.
The mis-management of the Clough era is going to take a long time to resolve, it just got extended.
The next manager will be just a shackled financially as Adkins was, maybe more so as he struggles to offload the sheer pile of crap and crocks.
For me anyone who thinks against this background there is cause for celebratory optimism just because we've got a new manager is sadly misjudging the reality of our situation.

I will say what I said last season, before anything had been announced .....

We don't know anything until we find out how many ( and who ) has been released, how many have been transfer listed ( and hopefully departed ) and who has been recruited.

We do not need to spend a fortune at this level; five or six well chosen and appropriate season-long loans, five or six free agents and a couple of well chosen permanent transfers with real promise to build a reasonable squad.

Add these to the retained senior squad of Long, Brayford, Sharp, Basham and Adams and we may look something like a team for this Division.

Retain any more of the current players and we're looking at mediocrity and another season of self-imposed exile in this agricultural Division o_O

UTB & FTP

Think we need four out of those five to improve their performances for starters DB, then we might be onto something.
