I don't think anyone believes this signing has been forced upon Wilder. We need Wilder more than Wilder needs us, he could easily get another Championship job so why would he take any crap from the owners?

To be fair IMO Morgan may not be the best coach to be taking advice from . I know and appreciate he is a ex Blade but his CV of fucking us up against Yeovil , Chesterfield relegation , Port Vale relegation doesn't bode well for having a eye for a player , coaching tactical , technical , but maybe character .

I can't disagree with Morgan's record as a coach but just because he isn't a good coach doesn't mean he can't see when a player has ability. I'd be highly surprised if Wilder didn't take final advice from Knill and Mitchell before making the decision for himself but I think it shows character to ask for advice from the ex-players he obviously has a lot of respect for.

Pinchy's argument was that Wilder shouldn't be asking Morgan for advice because he isn't a good coach, but Mitchell isn't a good coach either (I'm assuming). You don't have to be a good coach to give your opinion of a player.

He's a coach though, not a manager. He doesn't make any key decisions. The only time he's ever done that was a brief period with us and when coaching the kids. What happened at Chesterfield and Vale have very little to do with him. Alan Knill and Steve McClaren have had very mixed results as managers but ask anyone in the game and they'll tell you they are excellent coaches.

And the questions CW will have asked would have been fundamental and basic; can he follow instructions, does he learn quick, how does he interact with the other players?
It's due diligence and every competent manager does exactly the same thing.

Pinchy, much as you might want it not to be true, it is correct.

Morgan told someone at the club (Mitchell?) how he was 'on fire' in training at the start of the season, which made us sit up and take notice.

Any 'we parked him at Chesterfield' or 'he was going to sue us' is bollocks. I assume we thought he'd be washed up, but then got very interested when Morgan let us know.

As I've said before, I am not a big ITK but happen to know on this occasion that Sunjihi is 100% correct.

It was a Wilder/Knill/Mitchell decision, end of.

That's better. I believe you were told that and I have reasonable belief, based on your posts, that if you think your source is reliable, it probably is.

If so then I am completely happy that they have pulled out as I don't want to see Utd sponsored by companies who are run by people bigoted enough to not want to associate themselves with a club who have exercised their right to sign a free man to practice his professional trade and who has LEGALLY done nothing wrong.

If they pulled out of a deal on 'player ethics' alone then that is a different matter and entirely up to them to make that decision, but then you have to question why they are getting into potentially sponsoring football in the first place as football is hardly the temple of moral righteousness.

Absolutely. If someone pulls the plug on us because we have signed someone who actually committed a crime, I can understand it. But if someone pulls out because we have signed someone who in the eyes of the law (which is what counts) hasn't actually done anything wrong, then perhaps that isn't a sponsor we should be looking at. Unless it is the Premier Inn

If you adopt that principal then you wouldn't sponsor anyone, ever.

indeed if anyone has a right of action it would be the club against him for behaving in a way which meant he got convicted and sent down and therefore could not fulfil his contractual obligations to play for us and meant we failed to get promotion.

But with hindsight that would be a non starter because who would you sue? Ched has been cleared and said all along he didn't break the law. the CPS perhaps? Good luck with that.

I see a lot saying this but why does that have to be the case?

I'd say the smart money is on this deal having been in the pipeline for a long while before Wilder and he's happy to go with it on the basis that Evans isn't coming as his main man, he'll have made it clear he'll need to earn the right to play, and he'll be able to bring in bigger deals.

Cheers for the info. It was obvious Ched was never in a position to command big wages. This is a very decent gamble to take, given the low figures involved.

This suing us for lost wages story sounds utter garbage.

What a load of crap. 20 years in the professional game at a high level and he can't tell a good player when he sees one?

He may not be the best coach but he knows a good player when he sees one. Look at the resources he had in the 3 jobs he's held, you've blamed him for 2 relegations when he wasn't even managing.
