I know you've got the whole rating system but it's good to discuss here sometimes.

Howard - 8 (top saves, looked unsteady on a couple of crosses though)
McEveley - 7 (didn't totally control his side but solid enough)
Collins - 7 (won a lot of headers and positioning was good)
Edgar - 8.5 (terrific defending both in the air and putting body on the line for blocks
Freeman - 6.5 (tried to get forward but to little effect; couple of astray passes which caused us danger)
Adams - 8.5 (match winner and so composed and strong on the ball)
Scougall - 5.5 (ineffective throughout really; not sure what he brings to the team - too weak and not fast enough to truly threaten)
Baxter - 7 (not hugely involved but spreaded the ball nicely with the touches he had)
Basham - 6 (not one of his best games; thought Chesterfield controlled the middle of the park for large parts of the game)
Sammon - 8 (led the line really well and ran the channels effectively; unlucky not to score)
Sharp - 7.5 (was a nuisance all afternoon for their defenders and always looked like he was close to scoring)

Subs:
Woolford - 7.5 (positive running at their defence when he came on; good signs and looked to have a bit of pace and strength)
Wallace - 7.5 (couple of strong tackles and very commanding when he has the ball at his feet; he protects it well)
Reed - N/A (didn't really have chance to get into the game but a few neat touches and good desire shown)

I would say:
Howard 7/10
McEveley 6/10
Collins 7/10
Edgar 8/10
Freeman 7/10
Baxter 6/10
Basham 7/10
Scougall 5.5/10
Adams 8.5/10
Sharp 8/10
Sammon 8/10

Woolford encouraging looked much better than last week. Nice to see Wallace get some game time too.

Key difference defending today - we attacked the ball. Howard, despite a flap at a cross midway in the first half, looked confident and keen to quickly roll out from the back. Thought Edgar was excellent - one slight key touch denied Novak clear sight on goal, as good as a goal line clearance that.

Up front, thought Sammon was a great link up front. Sharp had a lot of the ball, used it well, deserved a goal. Looks stronger than last time, and quicker in thought - a much more complete forward than last time.

Adams, superb.

Pretty much how I saw it LB.

Many positives. Although I did leave the ground thinking that a more dominant goalkeeper who was much more commanding of his own box would lead to less of our too deep keystone cops type defending !!

Onwards.

UTB

Howard 13, Freeman, Collins Edgar15, Baxter, Basham12, Adams, J Mc, Samon Sharp16. Scougal 10.

Howard 8
Freeman 7
Collins 8
Edgar 8
Mceveley 7
Scougall 6
Basham 7
Baxter 5
Adams 9
Sharp 8
Sammon 8
Wallace 7
Woolford 7
Reed 8

Thought Baxter was quiet, Adams and Sammon were excellent and I didn't even notice Murphy.

Howard 8 - Much more assured than he looked at any point probably having two proper centre half helps
McEvely 7.5 - Looks better at LB, more than good enough to get out of this league after that not sure. Okay nothing more
Collins 7.5 - seemed more solid but never going to be brilliant
Edgar 9 - Colossus all game defended brilliantly
Freeman 7 - Not one of his better games did okay
Scougall 6 - Completely out of the game first half slight improvement in the second.
Baxter 6.5 - Looks thinner but still not convinced he's the man to partner Bash
Basham 7 - Similar to Freeman okay but no where near his full potential
Adams 9 - Two goals and some great runs. Talbot was left clueless
Sammon 9 - Two Assists worked well defensively and brought others in to play. Great signing
Sharp - 7 obviously desperate to score but still some quality touches to bring others in to play. Just a few too many misplaced passes particularly in the first half

Subs
Woolford 7 - couple of good runs didn't see much else
Reed 6 - Much like Scougall completely absent
Wallace 7 - Gave the midfield a bit more grit. Hope there's more to come

Howard 8
Freeman 7
McEverley 7
Collins 7
Edgar 8
Baxter 5
Scougall 5
Basham 7
Adams 8
Sharp 8
Sammon 8

Howard - 8 (did what needed to be done - be solid and not be a lightweight)
McEveley - 6.5 (uses the ball OK but was caught in front of his man on occasions)
Collins - 7 (looked solid, and more reassuered with Edgar being at the back with him)
Edgar - 8.5 (Is exactly what we have been missing - big, strong defender who attacks the ball - well done)
Freeman - 6 (did OK but didnt get into the game as much as he is capable of)
Adams - 8.5 (class, strong, tricky, superb from him)
Scougall - 6 (looked weak at times, but made some good runs, one resulting in a shot on goal)
Baxter - 7 (used the ball well, started the move for our second goal with a nice pass - needs to move slightly forward in midfield pair)
Basham - 6 (looked a bit off the pace for a bit, but improved. Needs to sit deep so Baxter can push on)
Sammon - 8 (Held the ball up well, nice lay offs, very good from him today - goal looked OK from where I was sat)
Sharp - 7.5 (looks stronger and quicker, just needs a goal!)

Subs:
Woolford - 7 (got forward well)
Wallace - 7 (still needs more fitness but was strong on the ball - looking promisingl)
Reed - 7 (Good touch as always)

All played well apart from our right hand side. Scougall isn't a right midfielder and I think that rubbed off on Freeman too.

Unfortunately, Scougall is too little and too weak. His legs move as fast as a fully grown person but his strides are shorter so he's slow aswell.

Here are the factually correct ratings. ;)

Howard - 7 - Vital saves. A couple of flaps.
McEveley - 6 - Positionally suspect, but additional height at full back welcome.
Collins - 6 - A decent effort.
Edgar - 7 - Not sure if he's that good or whether it's just been that long since we had a proper centre half?
Freeman - 6 - Couldn't get forward as much as he'd like.
Adams - 8 - Flashes of power and quality, a few mistakes, but a match winner.
Scougall - 5.5 - Out of position. At his best during quick interchanges, but not a winger.
Baxter - 5.5 - Looks fitter, but just spraying the ball around in our own half isn't enough.
Basham - 6 - Some good cover, but not always involved.
Sammon - 7.5 - Must be a joy to play alongside.
Sharp - 6.5 - A better player than when he left, but he'll be judged on goals.

Subs:
Woolford - 6 - One good run and Hollywood effort.
Wallace - 6 - Just great to see him playing.
Reed - 6 - As per Scougs - preferred centrally.

PS - I liked their #5. Influential from deep midfield.

PPS - That poor Chezzie player who got a huge cheer from their fans when subbed off...

Slightly off topic, but I thought Howard deserves big praise for today. Looked solid, apart from one misjudged cross first half, and made a great instinct save 2nd half.

Also thought scougs looked lost today, thought the game passed him by, and he was frequently outmuscled.

Collins & Sammon the standout performers for me, Sharp played rather well today also

Howard 7

Freeman 6.5
Edgar 8
Collins 8
McEvely 7

Scougall 6
Baxter 6
Basham 7
Adams 8.5

Sharp 7
Sammon 8

Wallace 7
Reed 6
Woolford 7

Howard 7..steady game, and had a lot of crosses to deal with aswell.
Freeman..6 ..Got forward well a few times 1st half, one dodgy pass across the box though.
JMac..6..did ok,and dealt with the quick lad ok 2nd half.A few near me Booed him when the teams were announced..can't understand that.
Edgar..8.5..Looked quality,never put a foot wrong.
Collins..7..played well to day,credit where it's due.
Bash..6...did ok without the ball, put some decent challenges in,but sloppy in possesion.
Baxter 6..only on for an hour, tried to set up the play from deep.
Scougs..6..was on the right,,played a bit narrow...need more from him though.
Adams..8.5 2 great goals..only criticism,lost possesion a few times..between him and Edgar for MOM.
Sammon..7.5..held the ball up well, linked up and unlucky not to be on scoresheet.
Sharp..7..worked hard,deserved a goal..linked up well.

Wallace..6..Showed enough to suggest he's back in contention..like a new signing.
Woolford ..6
Reed..6

Howard had a good first half however the last 10 minutes he was all over the shop, including punching from a standing start and flopping one!
Baxter will never work in a 2 man midfield and Basham is a CB learning a new trade in midfield. We need some experience in there.
Great to see Wallace back and hopefully he will at least take one of the spots above.
Sammon and Sharp ran the channels well. I didn't realise what an intelligent player Billy was until yesterday. Probably tried a bit too hard with the final ball but it will come good.
Edgar won everything and was huge surprise, every header every block every tackle. I didn't understand why he played on the right of Collins being a left pegger.
Collins has a cushion head and spoon feet when passing.
The left back spot is the best place for McEverley, well apart from the bench.
Scougall is not a right winger but Adkins knows that. If only we could find another nugget like Che to go on the other wing.
Still think Che is a striker and not a winger, his goals and all round play show that, and not sure how we are going to keep him as Jim is probably writing his transfer request as we speak.

It was better, but we need to do a lot better. One man who agrees with me(just about doing better) is Adkins who was enjoying a nice meal in the Pointing Dog last night.

Think there is always going to be an element of confirmation bias with rating players. If you've decided a player is no good you're always going to remember the not so good parts and rate them harshly and vice versa. But it's always interesting to see how other people view it.

Howard - 7 ( didn't do a lot wrong)
Jay - 6.5 (caught out a few times but looks better there than at cb)
Collins - 7 ( did everything asked of him really)
Edgar - 7.5 ( really like him, quick, good in the air. Like a budget Cahill)
Freeman - 7 (got forwards well, we are well stocked at rub once brayford is back)
Scouggs - 6 ( lots of running but hampered by not being a winger, drifted centrally too often)
Adams - 8 (wasn't fully convinced last year but looks the real deal. had their fb on toast at time, string, quick and unairing finishes - sept2 can't come quick enough)
Bash 6.5 (decent against morsey)
Baxter 7 ( ngl, I like Baxter as a player. Sprayed the ball about and one driving run forwards and got stuck in when required. There's promise for me in playing him here particularly against some of the weaker sides. )
Sharp 7.( never stopped, is quicker than I remember. I'd love him to get a league goal soon as he adds something to our sides with his runs)
Sammin 7.5 ( wasn't fully convinced when we signed him but 2 assists and some excellent hold up play. A dimisnsion we don't have with his wirk rate and signs of a decent partnership with billy and che)

Wallace 6.5 ( don't remember him doing to much as we wound the game down but nice to see him playing again)
Reed 6 ( same issues as scouggs)
Woodford 7 ( couple of decent runs and showed more than in pre season.)

Thought chezzy had a couple of decent players. The number 7 looked good. And the 2 late subs they brought on had pace to burn.
