I am stoked for the lad.
Has he been perfect: No. But we've had no luck all season before today and you sometimes need that to build from.
Hopefully a clean sheet and something to finally smile about will be just the boost in confidence he needs.
 
I’m a gk coach at a the age of 25 having retired from step 3 non league football (northern premier league) due to injury (two ops on the same knee within 24 months!) currently a level 2 qualified gk coach and coach at a step 4 club.

I’ve posted some points on Ramsdale in the past, however tonight he looked a pretty solid goalkeeper. Did everything you need, it will bread a lot of confidence. I want him too succeed massively, Daz ward knows what he is doing and how to improve him, he’s rated as one of the best gk coaches in the country.

I agree he looks a little suspect with his feet, sometimes positioning is wrong and sometimes shakey under a high ball but he’s only early 20’s the goalkeeper attributes will come with games. Do I think we overpaid yes, so I think he will be a success probably. However he had minus 150 professional games, in time he will be good 🤞

I think that over the years, the club has been fortunate to enjoy the services of some excellent keepers. From my earliest memories of Alan Hodgkinson, through to Tracy, Kelly, Rees and even the fat boy Kenny. All of them had a range of skills and character, that made them special and endearing in different ways.
As supporters we have perhaps taken for granted the fact that such a crucial position was occupied and even dominated by keepers of such a high standard.
This was surely amplified by a bloke called Henderson, who served us extremely well, despite the fact he was never going to belong to the club we love.
Im sure Rammers can look back on the illustrious list of men who have made that position theirs, and he will obviously suffer from comparison to the most recent of those keepers in young Henderson.
Ramsdale is not immune from criticism, in the same way that outfield players are. He still has to fulfill the promise of such a key position, in the knowledge that the majority of his predecessors were Lane Legends in their own right.
In this most difficult of seasons, his first clean sheet is a good start.
 
Well done Rammers on your first clean sheet. Hopefully the first of many in your blades career. Look forward not back unlike some of our fans
 
ive always rated rammy from watching him years ago at shirecliffe and you dont become englands u23 keeper for nowt personally i would like the club to try and build his physique up this summer get some extra muscle in his body so he becomes a bit more dominant coming for crosses i would also like the club to get a 2nd keeper this summer whos gonna challenge him to that number 1 spot none of our reserve keepers are doing that this season

Friendly reminder to everyone, you aren't allowed to criticise anyone who plays for us. Just curious what all Ramsdale's defenders thought of the fucking useless waste of space cunt James Wilson when we had him? Did you criticise him or back him? Criticism is fine, personal abuse is not

I'm nowhere near your level of qualifications (which I have a lot of respect for). My opinions tend to come as someone who had played, and largely enjoyed, the position for a long time at no higher than Saturday / Sunday standard. I did study the position a lot in terms of watching how the pros do it, and tried to pick up hints and tips along the way.

Anyway.............

IMHO most of the faults with him so far I would say are confidence based. He played at Bournemouth when it must have felt like being in a shooting alley, and then he didn't have the best of starts with us, also the fee (although I'm told it's not yet the complete £18m) must be like a millstone.

Of all the positions on the pitch, Goalkeeper is the most unforgiving. You make a mistake, more often than not it leads to a goal. Confidence is absolutely key, if that gets dented, you start second guessing everything you do. You can't second guess in goal, it's instinct, it's making a decision and following it through no matter what.

I've seen enough of Rammers at Bournemouth and with us to form my own opinion that he is technically very good, but there are areas to improve. He regularly plays for England U21's and there a few good keepers in that age bracket, so clearly he's no mug.

That being said, we are back to confidence. He has been playing like he is scared to death of making the next mistake. Every keeper is going to make a mistake, even the greats. I've liked Ederson from his Benfica days, good keeper but often a mistake in him. The thing is, and it's hard to do, is you have to own the mistake and reset or you just spiral. This is what makes Hendo a good keeper, he's mentally strong, to the point of arrogance maybe, but thats what you need.

The problem we have, if you take Rammers out of the limelight for a bit, who do we have? I know nothing about Verrips. . Moore IMHO is Champ level at best, and Foderingham's signing genuinely puzzles me.

Genuinely please for Rammers the other night. The thing with Bogle, if that had been a Sunday morning then the Keepers takes that ball and anyone in his way and asks questions later. Lets hope it was an improvement for him, and the team.
 
Agree--- Rammers needs encouragement and his confidence will grow. Utd have nearly always had exceptional keepers going back in my lifetime to Jack Smith, Ted Burgin, Hodgy, Tracy, one or two blemishes like Nicky Johns ( yes I know) but the lad has potential and doesn;t need mindless criticism on this forum.

Completely agree with this mate!

Unforgiving position and soon as you start to loose confidence your mistakes creep in and we all know a goalie mistake is going to cost the team 10x more than an outfielder more times than not!

it looks this past week like everyone is building in confidence and this will help Aaron massively. Everyone has faults and everyone has positives. Ramsdale has plenty of positives hopefully confidence will help him iron out and mask the negs 👌
