Amazing turnaround for him - it's only a year ago that we were questioning if he could actually catch a ball. GLTTL

Yes it is an amazing turnaround - we were questioning things and rightly so.

Considering he had hardly played a proper first team game for Bournemouth before he was thrust into the Premier league limelight with them, all B'mouth and us have done is give him 2 seasons of learning his trade which Arsenal and England will benefit from.

Wish the lad all the best in his career, but there was no hiding from the fact he was very average for us in the first half of that season from the first goal Wolves scored where he hardly got off the ground.

I'd like to think he used the constructive criticism he received in the way that most of us meant it.

He is still not a tall GK at 6' 2" by premier league standards - he's just going to have to work harder as did Hendo.

What is clear for most is he & Hendo (and Pope as well) are all better than lucky lucky Jordan Pickford.

Fair play to Ramsdale, deserves to start, he does seem like a completely different character at Arsenal than he was here, amazing considering the additional pressure he was put under, not just with the big money move, but the 'welcome' he received from many of the Arsenal supporters.

He seems much more involved, vocal and confident, not sure if that's down to the increased coverage or focus the pundits/cameras broadcast, but he seems far more comfortable organising, shouting, complaining and congratulating his defence at Arsenal than he ever did here.

I don't think that argument really works... he was criticised based on his performances for us at that time...
I guess the question is, how much criticism is fair and constructive?
Maybe we should let the coaches decide that.
Sadly, I suspect the vast majority of those slating him were just venting their spleen rather than offering encouraging, supportive criticism.
It winds me up no end when people say stuff like, "Well I don't mind admitting I was wrong about him" (having spouted the cruelest of bile towards a player in the famous red and white) as if that justifies their bullying behaviour towards one of their own.
Tough love? I doubt it.

Deserves his chance, you make your own luck and he has matured very well. The interviews he was giving at the end of last season showed how level headed he is. I hope he can push on just like Maguire has. UTB

Yes, agreed and he was absolutely shite for us....good luck to him but if he’s the future England keeper then we have no chance of winning anything...
It does surprise me how easily they give Emgland caps out these days....

|Good news for Rambo. All those people on here who gave him a load of grief when he was with us ought to eat their own words.

I think most fans flagged up that he wasn't playing well in the first half of last season, which is correct he wasn't playing very well and letting a few soft goals in. Then second half of the season, when he upped his game and started playing well, most fans were acknowledging just that fact.

Congratulations to the lad, carried on the second half of last season's form at the Arse and by the sounds of it now gets an England start. Well done young man and good luck tonight, keep a clean sheet.

Pleased for him, quite the turnaround but I reckon my toddler could start in nets against San Marino and England would still win

Meanwhile, Dean Henderson is sat at home twiddling his thumbs.

How he mighty have fallen. Should have stayed with us. We might still be in the Premier League and he would have been right up there fighting over no1 spot for England (not just against the likes of San Marino)

I bet if we were still in the premier league and Rammers was playing out of his skin for us (if only) he wouldn't be playing for England tonight....remember who he plays for now....some things never change
Don't disagree that players stand a better chance of getting called up at bigger clubs, but can't agree with the above.

Ramsdale was bobbins for half his time with us, then had a stellar 2nd half of the season - which won him a call up to the squad on merit

He's then continued that form for the first few months of the season with Arsenal, but it it was with us in the Premier League I've not doubt we'd see the same tonight.

Sam Johnstone, Tom Heaton, Jack Butland & Nick Pope have all won caps whilst playing at 'unpopular' clubs in recent years.

Maybe GKs are more of an exception as its a more individual position?

Maybe more to do with the fact teams can only have one first choice keeper, and that tends to be an expensive foreigner for most of the big clubs.
