I'll be brave and post this. Didn't do too well tonight overall and it's it easy to say he's a downgrade on Hendo but he pulled off an amazing save 2nd half and distributed the ball really well.

The big concern is diving at height, Hendo would reach the crossbar full body in a horizontal dive and would have save their 2nd goal and maybe even their first, Rambo dives like he's got a weight tied to his back. Hope he settles down and shows us why he's U21 keeper and worth the big fee we paid for him.

I will repeat what I said about him when he was at Bournemouth long before he was linked with coming back here.. “he makes two perhaps even three great saves almost every game, and makes one terrible error almost every game”

And thats precisely what happend tonight, his performance was exactly what I expected from him. He’s only 22 so in a couple of years may move beyond that terrible error a game but until then it’s going to cost us if we don’t start scoring more regularly at the other end.

I counted four mistakes that led to goals from Henderson last season that’s pretty good level, not many keepers in the modern game come up to that standard.. we can’t expect that sort of level of performance this season. Makes getting a regular goal scorer even more important at the other end.

Probably the least of our worries today. No need to look for fault where there isn’t any. He’s not Henderson, but Henderson is a £120k a week player.

It’s like comparing Norwood with Iniesta.

No major worry, we had Hendo for 2 years and he won us umpteen points. That has to be replaced with the way we play.

Agreed, apart from it wasn't really an amazing save. The striker should have done better, he put it directly at Ramsdale and there's an argument that he should have caught it. He made it look good though.

Good save with his wrong hand, true Jimenez should have buried the rebound.

Best one was the Siass header that he dived for, the new I phone was released by the time he got back up.

I didn’t think he could have done much with the goals today. He must have though he was back behind Bournemouth’s backline for the first 10-20 minutes today. And He did make a couple of really good stops

That said there’s no point in pretending it’s not a downgrade on hendo. Hendo performed like a top 5 keeper in the league - ramsdale was slightly below league average (which is fine, he can improve) but we are going to notice a drop off.

I really hope this isn't going to be a consistent theme all season with fans crying about the drop off in quality from Henderson to Ramsdale.

Yes, there is going to be a difference. Henderson is one of the leagues best goalkeepers, we couldn't afford him. Let's get over that one quickly. Ramsdale will be solid, but unlikely to be spectacular.

He didn't make any horrendous errors tonight and pulled off a couple of decent saves. Let's just get behind the lad.

To replace Hendo we’d need £120k a week so we need to settle for what we’ve got at 1/4 of that value. We were lucky and spoiled to have him for 2
seasons.

Defensively we aren’t as good as people think, it’s like the Alamo at times. Hendo undoubtedly won us a lot of points last season. That said there aren’t many players that I’d swap our defenders for, it’s just that collectively and individually they can’t afford a bad game ever, or they look poor.

2nd goal a Sunday league keeper would have saved.

His dive trimmed the grass.

If he carries on like that Wes will take his spot. Wilder said as much pre season.

The big concern for me is spending on 18 million on someone unproven

Apart from having excellent individual PL stats last season, in a team with outfield players that couldn't defend if their lives depended on it.

Yep, he's not shown us anything. Hope Wilder kept the receipt.

What utter dog shyte. For what it’s worth I wanted cakir. Their 2nd was an excellent header. You sometimes have to give the opposition credit instead of looking for scapegoats all the time.

Really? Leaning backwards 10 yards out, no power on the looping header, in the middle of the goal, at least a foot under the bar?

Jeez, if an EPL keeper can't save that then god help us.

It was going to happen, but I think you (and others) are looking to find fault where there isn’t any. He’s not as good as Henderson, but he won’t be. He’ll be an average PL keeper in hopefully an average PL team.

Got to disagree, he did well in front of an inept disorganised defence and defensive midfield. If Hendo had made those two saves everyone would have been spunkin all over the place. Hendo made major gaffs and spectacular saves, he’s a showman. It’s unfair and inappropriate to start using a departed manure player to beat up our newest recruit and very promising keeper when our ‘stars’ like Fleck, Norwood, McGoldrick, Sharp were more like L1 players than Pl.

What terrible error did he make. Ffs get a grip. Baldock fell over and gave him a clear header while McB took 2 of his own defenders out like 10 pins.

Good post, and the point about the saves made is important.

If he had saved the first 2 Wolves chances, they could have just as easily scored a couple more later on. Or he could have fluffed the lot and we might have lost 4-0.

We all need to get over Henderson. He was instrumental in 2 promotions, but far from the sole reason that we achieved them. He also had a few errors in him, and at times was (frankly) gash at defending his near post.

Ramsdale will be fine. It's the goals scored column that we need to focus on.

Average don't cut it with me and certainly won't cut it with Wilder.

If we want to be EPL established we don't do average.
