Their 2nd goal was an easy tip over, he dived low and got nowhere near it.
Watched it again on the half time analysis. He was very close to touching it but he was quite a bit off his line. Perhaps if he was on his line he might have saved it

I'll be brave and post this. Didn't do too well tonight overall and it's it easy to say he's a downgrade on Hendo but he pulled off an amazing save 2nd half and distributed the ball really well.

The big concern is diving at height, Hendo would reach the crossbar full body in a horizontal dive and would have save their 2nd goal and maybe even their first, Rambo dives like he's got a weight tied to his back. Hope he settles down and shows us why he's U21 keeper and worth the big fee we paid for him.
Agreed. I was alarmed to see how he dives (struggling to reach the top third of the goal) and can’t see how this flaw can be sorted any time soon. The 2nd goal should have been a routine save - it was nowhere near the corner and wasn’t that powerful. Whilst I don’t blame him for the 1st his dive then was equally bizarre. Even with the good save later on he seemed too low but managed to get a good hand to the ball.

Foderingham also looked dodgy in pre-season so not the most convincing start for our two new keepers.

Personally I think we should have tried for a Foster at Watford. A very good keeper and probably cheaper given his age - and we could have spent the money elsewhere.

Good post, and the point about the saves made is important.

If he had saved the first 2 Wolves chances, they could have just as easily scored a couple more later on. Or he could have fluffed the lot and we might have lost 4-0.

We all need to get over Henderson. He was instrumental in 2 promotions in 1 promotion and another fantastic season, but far from the sole reason that we achieved them. He also had a few errors in him, and at times was (frankly) gash at defending his near post.

Ramsdale will be fine. It's the goals scored column that we need to focus on.

Just editing my own post due to the obvious brainfart. WTF was I drinking last night?

No - because some have followed what he did last season at Bournemouth.

To some it's about Hendo - to others like me Hendo is history and it's about the keeper we have now and how he performs.

UTB
I completely agree. Just to clarify, I wasn't being negative about Rammers, more about the predictability of the comments on here. I am 100% behind the lad. UTB!

1st he didn’t stand a chance
2nd he could’ve done better
Then made a couple of really good saves, that one from Saiss when Norwood just gave them the ball and he tipped it onto the post was outstanding

Stop comparing him and Henderson

Outstanding? The striker shouldn't have given him a chance, but belted it more or less straight at him. He gets a hand on it and luckily knocks it onto the post, but if it's been a few inches different he's just parried it into the net.

Think we need to stop this comparison to Dean Henderson.

We cannot compare Ramsdale to a keeper who is considered by some to be the best British goalkeeper, who is now being paid roughly 100k per week by the biggest club in the world and who is being talked about as Man Uniteds number one displacing De Gea in the coming season.

I thought Ramsdale was solid - he was confident and decisive in distribution. Not yet tested with crosses really, and made 2 excellent saves.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned about the second goal and some of the other chances created from corners - was the lack of a man on each post.

I agree he looked a bit stiff, ponderous and lacking in agility but he’s here now, he’s our first choice keeper and should be judged on his performances over a bigger test sample than one game?

I‘d prefer us to focus all our attention on the opposite end of the pitch, which is an area of greater concern and one that we can still improve upon before the window closes.

I really hope this isn't going to be a consistent theme all season with fans crying about the drop off in quality from Henderson to Ramsdale.

-- Ramsdale will be solid, but unlikely to be spectacular.

He didn't make any horrendous errors tonight and pulled off a couple of decent saves. Let's just get behind the lad.
At least I won't be drawing any comparisons between Hendo and Ramsdale. Past is past. But I do compare Ramsdale with other world-class keepers, though, and he should've made a save in both of Wolves' goals.

Incredibly harsh in my opinion for anyone saying he should have saved the first goal. That was a superb shot.

The 2nd one is an if but or maybe. One thing that us fans do sometimes neglect is the power and pace that some of these attempts reach the goal.

Certainly not a bullet header from 6 yards out by Siass but still nestled in the back of the net within about 2 seconds of him connecting with it.

That gives a goalie very little time to react. If Ramsdale positioning was altered by a fraction be may have got a hand on it. That’s the margins we are talking about here.

No way would I say that he definitely should have saved it

Both Lunny & Norwood were poor + the most worrying part was that it didn't seem to bother them.

Looks to me like Lunny's got a nice move sorted out + because of this Norwood feels his place in the side is safe once Berge has to play RCM.

There'll be no fee coming in for Lunny with which to buy an RCM.

Our only hope is to play Bogle or Ampadu at RCM until they're needed elsewhere.

If Wilder thinks tonight was an acceptable standard we're heading out of the PL.

If not , he's still gorra reight job on to keep us up.

Lundstram should never play for us again Wilder was quick to show Duffy the door and he really did love our club and show a real affinity to club and always gave his all I cant recall the last time I such a lazy and half hearted player play like that for us.

Wilder needs to practice what he preaches in regards to Lundstram.

As for Norwood he just isn't good enough for our midfield time and time again wastes the set pieces we have cant beat the first man more often than not and that is just for a start and that is not good enough at this level we have to be far more creative and clinical and with Norwood in there we will struggle.

Think too many people are obsessed with Dean Henderson to be fair and keep comparing the 2 when they are completely different characters altogether for a start.

Time some of our fans got a grip and supported the lad he has had 1 competitive game back and already some are writing him off.

These supposed great saves he made... let’s be honest if he doesn’t save them he should be dropped. First goal he could’ve gotten closer to but it was a great finish and like some have said not many keepers would have saved. The second goal was awful goalkeeping, somehow shrunk as he dived for it. Neville froze the image and showed the ball a good foot underneath the crossbar and pretty central. Doesn’t fill me with confidence but we’ll see if he improves.

To me it looked like the sun was in his eyes if he was stood bang on the line but 2 yards further out it was ok. May explain his positioning and reflexes on both goals. Early days yet to be judging him

Not only is this unfair, it’s putting Hendo on an unnecessary pedestal and giving Rammers absolutely no honeymoon period with his new team.

I liked Henderson and he definitely came out well in credit but he wasn’t without fault and there were goals that were not attributed to him that he could have done better on.

So if we are going to be super critical to Rammers from the off, have a relook at the goals we conceded:

Leicester - Good strike from Vardy, but keepers shouldn’t be conceding at the near post.
Chelsea - cost us the second goal by dropping a routine catch.
Liverpool - absolute howler cost us a point in a really hard fought performance.
Newcastle home - just like yesterday, not the prime culprit but hardly made any effort and didn’t play to the whistle on their second.
Newcastle away - terrible error by Enda but another at the near post.
Southampton - another near post, this time from Jug ears.
Arsenal cup - got us knocked out by coming out at the wrong angle with defenders on the line and getting done near post once more.

He was brilliant for us. I mean to take nothing away from that. But we were behind him and he came through all of the above with total support. We should be giving the same to Ramsdale too.

Exactly.

If we're going to condense down to one game, then Hendo cost us at home to Liverpool. If he makes these mistakes consistently over a few games, then thats another conversation.

Last night was as much about what other players didn't do as it is about Ramsdale.

Another positive - even in one game it was clear his distribution is miles better than Henderson’s.

Ramsdale’s kicks hit our players, instead of going out for a throw in or straight to their keeper.

The thing is last year Henderson was playing at a higher level than the rest of the team, I think he potentially would've saved the second one but wouldn't call it a mistake at all, was a decent performance from Rambo.

I don’t disagree with any of that, except you missed out Watford at home, where he left Deulofeu about six foot of goal to aim at as he came rushing out to ‘narrow the angle’

I’m sure Ramsdale will get the full support of the crowd, if we are ever allowed back in, but remember even Henderson wasn’t universally lauded on here!

But what exactly has that to do with anything/the end result? It's not so much of a comfort knowing that McBurnie is leading the line. Whether Ramsdale gets the ball to him or not, that really does not make any difference.

Best just kick it to their team then hadnt we.
