I took the wife and ours 3 young kids to the game on Saturday for the first time this season. Ask my mrs what her opinion of our fans is and you'll find she's in total agreement with Walker!!

Doesn't the fact that Blades are lining up to make these points ,Blades that attend every week can see that we are in a false position and we have no direction and a very dodgy immediate future. Blackwell is not up to it and Radio Sheffield will not have it heard. Wendy were the same with Laws ,he was great until he got sacked ,now they can slag him off ,that isn't impartial journalism ,thats arse licking.

So appalled and outraged for W@NKER WALKER to call ALL Blades fan's MORONIC and DEPRESSIVE, i have e mailed the Station Manager, demanding that Paul Walker issues an apology "live on air" to ALL Sheffield United supporters.
RAGING LIVID

good lad
i never listen to it anymore .. they once grossly misrepresented an email i sent in for a cheap laugh.. very poor journalism imo

Hilariously, some barnsley fan applauded his treatment of us... then he asked if anyone coming over the top from preston wanted to ring in.... two people rang in and said we were absolute shite.... he had nothing to say to that other than thanks for calling. i seriously think complaints should be made to radio sheffield, if he doesnt get the sack, let him spend six months driving round school fetes in that little van theyve got. prick!

For fuck's sake is anyone genuinely "livid" about this?! It's a football call-in show not a military incursion into Gleadless Valley. Unitedites are livid about absolutely everything all the time!

Football Heaven is like Groundhog Day for the BDTBL Village Idiots, it's the same call over and over again, why do these people feel the need for constant validation?!?!...

"McCabe should sack Blackwell now...it's the worst performance I've ever seen...Blackwell is a clown...the season's over..."

"What was wrong with the performance?"

"It was terrible Blackwell is a clown, don't you agree?"

"What was wrong with it?"

(ad nauseum)

For the love of god, construct some semblance of an argument. It's the same on here with fucking "Clapppers" and "Knockers", how old are these people? I pity Paul Walker (incidently a Blade) and the others...it's like Samaritans with SUFC at the minute.

Radio Sheffield is outstanding in terms of coverage in comparison to BBC Leeds and other stations.

did you hear it?? it wasnt behaviour befitting a radio presenter, whether that be a two-bob local tosser or johnathan ross! if hes a big blade, even worse, ive never heard such dross in all my life. apparently now FIVE current players are on 70% of the wage bill - and thats sure to cause rifts!!!! what fcking rifts? if anyone rings up and mentions rifts they get cut off. the bloke talks out of his arse and hes rude and patronising to boot. am i livid? you bet. i seriously hope the guy gets a proper dressing down over this or better still, the sack.

>FIVE current players are on 70% of the wage bill
one of those better NOT be quinn, or there will be a military incursion

Naysmith,Henderson,Sharp,Monty,Morgan ?(or poss Speed if still down as a player)

monty!! MONTY!!
get me the joint cheifs of staff

typo alert.. that'd be chiefs obviously.. just for the spelling fascists

Naysmith,Henderson,Sharp,Monty,Morgan ?(or poss Speed if still down as a player)

morgs just signed a new deal, so probably not him. if henderson is on a massive wage, thats down to blackwell, ergo destroys the argument.

I diidn't hear it. I try to avoid Football Heaven driving home, however I will "listen again" tomorrow. If Walker did accuse Blades fans of being moronic, whether the individual callers or as more of a generalisation it is wrong and he should be hauled over the coals. A a radio presenter fronting a programme that relies on fans opinions you cannot call people morons, whether what they are saying is incorrect, unsubstantiated or just simply not the opinion they share. You are encouraging all fans to call, whether good or bad communicators. Some may not have a wide vocabulary or cohesive opinions, but surely a presenter is highlighting his own inadequacies to resort to calling people morons. Back to the playground.

As others have said, the quality of journalism is incredibly poor, highlighted by teh shambles that was Giddings' interview with Blackwell which seemed to end abruptly when Giddings asked about why there was a switch to 4-4-2 away from home and Blackwell incredulously said what switch, as he had played that way for the last few away games (WBA apart)

Chedwyn?:emmy::loopy::gallop:

Walker usually does a good job at commentating matches ,however i think he lost it abit tonight they way he talked to that old fella who was only trying to get his point across.
I hope the old lad had a lil drink and a lay down.
Damn whippersnappers these days no respect.

I agree with everything Paul Walker said.

I'm sick of these moaning twats who constantly ring up just because they don't like Kevin Blackwell. I swear some of them must want us to lose every week so they can ring up.

I was appalled ...even after the pathetic tongue in cheek apology from Walker ....to hear Bennett sign off the programme tonight with the cocky .....I will run the show as I see fit... .... attitude. !! :bomb:
If that doesn't smack of blatant censorship ...then I don't know what does !!

I can't see why people are getting their knickers in a twist over the goons on BBC Radio Sheffield.

I very rarely listen to Football Heaven on Radio Sheffield. The only time i will listen to it is on the occasions when i drive to the match, and then i'll put it on to find out the scores, and see how the local sides have got on, and listen to the managers interviews rather than what supporters have to say, as generally its the empty vessels making the most noise.

A lot of the problem is football phone-ins have reached saturation point and the good stuff is usually outweighed by a plethora of complete and utter crap.

It's a shame, i used to love listening to Praise or Grumble with Bob Jackson when i was a kid. He was an excellent broadcaster who used to listen and be able to hold a decent debate with the supporters rather than the tedious crap that goes on now.

Saturday afternoon always used to be good, as when United played away i used to tune in to Radio Sheffield, and instead of commentary, there used to be the Military March before the scores started coming in.

nail on head with Bob J... but its an idicative of the dumbing down of society.... i remember washing my car listening to a slightly delayed game at Bolton, we got a 94th min equaliser and I was jumping about the street then phoned up P&G. 94??... anyways... military march was on radio 4 i think, just linked through to local stations :)

im sorry but he overstepped the mark tonight, he thought he was jeremy kyle!!!!!

I think having Football Heaven on every night of the week, ultimately ends up with it reaching saturation point and its very much now a case of quality rather than quantity.

A few years back the entire media revolving around Sheffield United and local football was 4 hours of Football on a saturday afternoon on Radio Sheffield, a midweek match where you would only get updates on the radio, and then it was the Star through the week and the Green 'un on a saturday night.

Now you can have as much media as you could possibly stomach, and the quality has diluted as a result.

I prefer the message boards though, although i could not stomach the thought of Blades Mad, they are accesible 24/7, and if you sift through some of the crap, you can usually some find some quality debate and insights.

Anyway lets face it, where else can you spend a couple of hours on a quiet afternoon engrossed in a delightfully pedantic thread involving Darren and Silent over youth players from the 1980's.

I would happily call most of them morons. Well done to Walker for wearing his heart on his sleeve. You don't have to agree with him but you can't say he doesn't care.

His points were fair as well. We moan like bastards when we get the chance. Blackwell gets flayed without most having anything constructive to say. I cringe when I listen to so called Blades calling in who are more interested in being right than they are listening to any other point of the argument.

Anyone stop to think that they may have a point here? Personally I don't agree with him but I do think there is merit in what he says. Football is a changing game. For me it has gone to the dogs. I blame McCabe for lying to us when he should have been big enough to stand proud and tell everyone the shit we were in. But he didn't and here we are.

I am happy that we have broadcasters who are big enough to stand up to the gobshites. To me thats what healthy debate is all about.

Now if the team showed that passion.................................

That has always been the way really, but what I thought was unacceptable (and I seldom listen to the midweek ramblings as they're almost completely pish) was the unprofessional attitude from Radio Walker, and the following soapbox yelling by public broadcasters.

If any one of us had spoken to any of our customers like that, we'd be on a disciplinary in the morning. Yes, a lot of stuff spoken by fans (who surely must be handpicked) on that show is truly awful, but the hectoring involved wasn't right.

I used to listen to that show quite a lot, usually as I was cooking food at that time so I could get some peace :D, but I can't bear it now. I only put it on as I knew I'd be in there to listen to the match, and that HH the Younger III would want to be there to listen to it too.

Ten minutes or so of them justifying spitting a dummy out was not acceptable broadcasting.

This from someone who asked me for the number for Radio Sheffield after we'd lost at Leicester in our last promotion season, and who's only coherent sentence was "I'm on the way to the station." Repeatedly?

The irony isn't lost ;)

Walker is getting far too big for his boots ,he is now trying to rival Toby Foster in a morning with humour and just comes across as a sad nerdy wanker. Tonight he and Bennet (did you see the fat faced fucker on Latekickoff last night) went totally over the top and wouldn't listen to anything negative about Utd whether it was constructive or not.

Low level hospital DJs failing miserably at being shock jocks.

Sums RS up for me. They've turned into a Chorley FM parody act - Walker, Giddings, Bennett, Foster, all talentless twats who make Look North seem professional.

Like the Green 'Un, The Stir and Radio Hallam, RS has had its day, suitable only for blaring out in down-market hairdressers or, in the case of The Stir being delivered to homes for the chronically incontinent.

Also, don't people think it's just biased? One miserable fucker they should cut off - constantly moaning about the Blades - they actually employ, Keith Edwards!

Wendy, on the other hand used to have gobshite Pearson, who's bias is unbelievable.

Don't know if he's still on, but as I now ignore RS, The Stir, Radio Hallam and Green 'Un, I've moved on.

Wish they would.

Never listen to the phone ins any more, way too many dummies who can't even string a sentence together for my liking. I do listen to the commentaries though, and took excepton to Seth Bennett a few weeks back so sent him an e mail. I'll admit I wasn't too complementary, without going down the childish name calling route, and I challenged his knowledge of football due to some of his comments.

I didn't expect it but I got a reply, quite reasonable too albeit not one that I agreed with but there ya go, at least he took the time out to respond and in a reasoned manner so if you're all that pissed off then let them know, e mail, text, call, there's plenty of options so get on with it and stop whining on here.

I am ROCKS..............and GORGEOUS

:gallop:

I always get the impression that Radio Sheffield have a 'strained' relationship with Blackie at the best of times. Interesting that they appear to defend the hierachy and management to the supporters.

I think it depends on your view of what the role of a radio phone-in presenter should be.

For me, they should be an objective neutral, skilled at interviewing callers to allow them to eloquently voice their opinions which should be the majority of the programme.

It shouldn't be about what Paul Walker thinks (this is Paul Walker, who was at the Riverside last night). It shouldn't be about what Seth Bennett thinks (he who watches that bobbins known as ice haaackey).

It should be about what the callers thinks, inviting normal people to call in and argue the points raised in previous calls for balance.

Now it is difficult because football fans aren't particularly well-known as a group of people for having balanced and reasonable opinions that they can put across without the need to eff and jeff. But it is possible.

BBC Reading or whatever it is are always worth a listen to after a game because they screen out the reactionary morons and allow sensible people on who put their points across well. Interestingly, the majority of callers have also been to the game in question and so are able to have a discussion with the presenter instead of taking the presenter/commentator's word as gospel about how they performed.

This is what I would do.

1) Seeing as they get the most airtime, it is mainly idiots who phone in.

These are people incapable of discussion and who just want to say "Barnsley are crap", "Blackwell out" or "Irvine can have my daughter". They are unable to justify their opinions beyond their opening diatribe and you can just imagine them frothing at the mouthpiece of the phone.

They would stop getting airtime. More reasonable people would be encouraged to call. These would be people with all manner of opinions but have the ability to properly explain themselves to garner some kind of discussion.

2) I'd dedicate one night per week to one team. Monday = United, Tuesday = Wednesday, Wednesday = Barnsley, Thursday = Chesterfield Friday = Rotherham. Saturday is for post-match reaction for everyone.

That way, there would be an on-going thread throughout the evening which would encourage discussion between callers instead of one-way soap boxing which the presenters feel the need to counter before they cut to the next call from a Millers fan or whatever.

It would also allow the presenter most familiar with the team to host that evening's calls in an attempt to get the best out of the callers.

3) A personal bugbear. That bloody "playback" section of the calls on 30 minutes. I do not have ADHD. I might be nearing the end of a long day, but you are really underestimating your audience if you think they cannot remember what was said over the last 1800 seconds.

Produce a show for idiots, you get idiots.

4) The presenters. They need knocking down a peg or two.

As commentators, they wish their view of the game to be taken as gospel. They encourage this by allowing so many people on who haven't actually been to the game and who blow smoke up their arse.

"Haven't been to the game Paul, but listened to your wonderful commentary..."

Ge'or. How do you know it's wonderful? You can't bloody see it! I know for the exiles and those who don't travel that RS provide a useful service, but I'd hope that most people take what they say with a massive dollop of salt.

Therefore, more people who have been to the games should be allowed through the screening process and encouraged to call. This ensures that listeners are getting a myriad of opinions about the games concerned rather than What Paul Walker Thinks About Everything And Woe Betide Anyone Who Disagrees.

For a phone-in, they should take a back seat. It should be 50 minutes of calls and 10 minutes of open questions to further debate from the presenters as well as introducing the next caller.

5) Shit-stirring. Radio Sheffield love it. There's a reason Blackwell isn't impressed with Radio Sheffield and there's a reason Neil Warnock went through stages of refusing to talk to them. There's a reason they were banned from Oakwell.

It's the same today.

Seth Bennett on Twitter: Sethb45 - Football heaven was pretty fiery last night. Well worth a listen back on iplayer

They love the controversy. It's like kids in a playground. Perhaps if they took a more professional attitude, the clubs would treat the station differently and it would become a good platform for raising issues with the teams?
