It was the story about returning shirts with Evans on the back ,he was told by his boss to 'seek' out a story on it.

Pathetic and petty from the club. There are many very good reasons for United to fall out with RS and indeed the Star(and probably should have done before now) but this issue is really not the one.

I'm guessing that United feel that Radio Sheffield leaking the news could have led to another club poaching Weir before the deal was done. Would Blades fans still be saying it was a petty response if that had happened?

For obvious reasons, I am unable to tune in Radio Sheffield but I find this thread interesting to read. SUFC's annoyance with RS seems understandable

In the world of agents I think everyone is touting everyone.

The crux is how the info got to Walker/RS

1) As is common practice with some press announcements the info is given under embargo and could be relased at 9am Monday for example. A journalist who is given this and breaks the embargo will be frowned upon even by other journos. I doubt United would have put this announcement out under embargo on Friday.

2) Walker/RS use their contacts to find out who is going to be appointed and then rightly report this as is their job as a journalist (we aint in North Korea, United do not control local media thank god) and break the news first.

Maybe Walker got wind of it, asked the club for a comment, club said don't run the story, Walker said tough it's all over the web and other media are getting it anyway.

If it is the first scenario then United are right to have a mardy on. If it is the second then the club need to grow up and have the intelligence to pick the right battles with the media when they have more legit grounds to do so.

Regarding RS bias. I used to hear all the rants from fans of all clubs that they were biased towards this club or that club and i used to dismiss it as being rubbish. They are just journolists doing their jobs i thought.

Till last season that is. Listening on the way home one night it struck me that a certain manager seemed to be getting longer than any other manager. At first i thought no.... you imagined it. Then it happened the following week. So (sad bastard I am) ,I began timing each interview and recording it. The following table shows the results. As you can see there is a definate bias towards one particular manager. What I also noticed was that after EVERY saturday fixture they ALWAYS interview a player from that particular team. In fact one saturday they were running late and made a point of telling listeners that a player from that club had been interviewed but because there was not time to air it , it could be heard on i player.
I ll leave you to work out which club is which.
But bias there definately is!!!!!

Ooops table not come out as copied . But the red figure is for manager E who can be seen to regularly get 2 or 3 times the amout of airtime than any other manager almost every week. the blue figures are the time s for players from that team.
Sorry my pc skills cant get the table to copy out in easy readable form.

The thing about RS is they would never believe someone would actually do what you have done. Keep timings like that just post them off to ofcom. I finally noticed how bias they were when they had about 3 separate phone ins for Wednesday fans to call in and cry about Megson getting the boot. The first phone in was extended just Wednesday fans and it happened to be on the same night we won at home (a game in hand I think). Not one Blades fan got on the air that night at all.

djbaldken,

As I said earlier, I have noticed exactly the same as you, without of course your dedication to duty.

Every Saturday, without fail, Moans gets twice as long as anyone else (and, being him, it sounds like four times as long!). In addition there is always a Pig player interviewed, often two; very rarely a Blade. Pig players are routinely called by their first names - Miguel, Mikkel, Reda, JJ and all sorts of bollocks. The sycophancy is nauseating. Have the hacks no dignity or self-respect at all?

This has been happening for years. It's beyond coincidence and quite clearly a policy decision (though they won't have the courage to admit it). Successive United Press Officers should have done something about it but are far too matey-matey, bladey-bladey with the hacks. One of them worked there last season!

I urge you to write to the Station Manager (not the Sports hacks - they'll lie) with your evidence and seek an explanation. We do, after all, pay the wages of these numpties.

Interesting that none of the Football Heaven team have piped up on Twitter with any comment about being excluded today. Silent fury or placed back in their box?

Their choice to slag the club off.....although it may not help them. :)

I won't be listening to Radio Sheffield anymore, just like I stopped reading the Star. Not sure who Paul Walker thinks he is and I don't care, however I am guessing this time he got too smart for his own good. He has picked a battle too far with Kevin McCabe this time.

What pisses me off more than this though is their complete lack of understanding of what 'devil's advocate' actually means, however this is due to the face they are scared of losing their money from the clubs and have to face the manager, chairman or players every week for interviews.

They have no balance and everything is seen as moaning. People generally phone to moan so instead of cutting them off or short try to understand where people are coming from.

They are just fucking useless and yet last season all I heard was them let Dave fucking Jones moan every week and let him get away with it.

Fuck Radio pig, if anyone does complain the stock answer will be the pigs are in the championship so get more coverage, well we all know what bollocks that is after the mass hysteria after Megson got the sack and the even worse hysteria when Ched was in court. I thought the way they ripped into the club for not immediately terminating Ched's contract was disgraceful reporting and I will not even mention that :fattwat: Toby Foster. Still we are not the first club to have a dispute with them around these parts, wasn't it a total ban from Oakwell one season ?

In the age of Twitter and online news sources, do we really need Radio Sheffield?

As I only listen to RS on a Saturday/Tuesday whilst driving to/from BDTBL, and whilst we are Div 3 and therefore hardly even a footnote on any national station, then the answer would be YES.

Oh come on you know David [Netball ] Jones is very interesting , whats his dogs name ???

Persnally not listened to them by choice since the whole Ched Evans affair and Toby Foster's subsequent apparent glee. Classless, clueless, fat prick who enjoyed nothing more than shoving the knife in and taking seemingly great pleasure from an unsavoury incident used to further his own show.

Bates did same at le ds and their halfheads hated it, when they couldn't get any news on radio lee s! I know bates did for a different reason, but doesn't help anyone.

Personally, I don't have anything against the sports coverage on Radio Sheffield. A lot of the time they do a good job to make a half decent show considering some of the knuckle draggers that ring up.

In order for SUFC/Somebody to be pissed off enough to give them the shoulder they must have been expressly asked to keep whatever it is they were told/found out to themselves.

The fact you get longer interviews with Dave Jones is probably down to the fact it takes him twice as long to say just as much given his monotonous, mono toned, droney voice. And they probably only get interviews with Wendy players because they're open to doing it - whether that's a club policy decision or the players own choice?

My biggest problem with RS is that no presenter has a real fixed opinion on anything - other than brown nosing and kissing arse to keep themselves employed. I don't necessarily want to listen to something where I agree with everything, I just want presenters to have an opinion and stick to it.

I could think of a number of examples, but one that sticks in my memory is when SUFC fans would ring in and say get rid of Adams, Blackwell, Wilson etc. and they would be shouted down and cut off and told that they were negative and the manager was doing a good job on limited resources. However, when Megson gets sacked when SWFC are 3rd and replaced with Jones, they are all over that like a rash, saying it's a good decision (obviously after they went up). It's just complete rubbish generally.

I don't particularly like the guy but Adrian Durham on TalkSport is very opinionated, even has Twitter debates with players (i.e. Joey Barton) if they disagree with what he says but at least he has an opinion and sticks to it.

It's typical modern day presenting/reporting where brown nosing and making friends is more important than reporting the real issues.

I agree with the majority on here. I get less and less enamoured with the presenters. All relatively young men arrogant without semingly having cause to be so impressed with themselves. They'll no doubt read this thread and have a jolly good laugh about it as if they don't care what we think. Rob Staten or whatever his name is rediculed an old man one evening, wouldn't allow him to have a say, it was actually quite disgusting. I also think their treatment of Brian, who they treat as the class clown, should be entitled to a bit of respect. I can live without their banal coverage of Sheffield United. I only wish all Blades would boycott Radio Sheffield just as the club seem to have done. The grovelling to players and managers is also quite sick inducing
