It might seem like pedantry to you, but at the time (in about 2001 or so, when he’d had a few drinks and we were rubbish), that adverb was what gave the original post it’s pathos. Who’d have thought that almost a generation later, The Blades would be genuinely worthy of an alcohol fuelled paean.

Almost everybody in the squad has a similar story (I'd exclude Hendo, McBurnie, L Freeman and Berge); makes for an unbelievable story in the 'if you read it you would say how far fetched it was' way. Coventry reject, Brentford reserve, Bournemouth reject, boyhood fan 3rd bite of the apple in his twilight years, a mix of lower league signings...

I've had a few beers, so that's part of it admittedly.

But tonight epitomises the journey we've been on. We've just dismantled Chelsea, probably one of the top 4 clubs in the land. We've done it on a fraction of the sort of budget enjoyed by the rest of the top half of the prem.

4 years ago we were staring at our 6th season in league one, we put up with years of shit. We're now competing with the big boys and legitimately one of the top 10 teams in the country. The progress we've made is utterly astounding and yes we're getting some credit nationally, but only we know what this really means, and the work it's taken to get here. - fuck the pundits, especially those who wrote us off and even those patronisingly patting us on the head, we fucking know what we've been through to get here, and how much we love the squad and the management staff who have done it.

And the whole current situation adds to it all. We've just had possibly one of the best results in a decade and we can't go for a post match drink and enthuse about it in the pub, I'm really genuinely missing that tonight, that game needs to be dissected, celebrated and enjoyed with my mates, and I can't.

Last point has to be for the gaffer though. Chris Wilder is a legend already, easily the best manager of my lifetime supporting United without doing anything else from this point. But the best thing is, he won't settle, we will take beating Chelsea 3-0 and we'll kick on again, he will demand no less. We will target winning these last 3 and where that might take us. I don't think we're finished on this journey and hopefully life will be back to normal at some point to enjoy what the next stage brings.

So, so proud to be a Blade tonight.

I was emotional after we scored our 3rd.

I lost my dad 2 1/2 years ago. while he went during the 70s with Currie and Woodward, we started going together in the mid 80s. Apart from Bassett in the early 90s, we went through some lows, but I wish I could talk to him about this and last season, and how yesterday we played Chelsea off the park and if we continue will be in Europe next season.
