This season before he got injured he was woeful
Offered very little protection to the back four and gave the ball away in dangerous areas culminating in the opposition scoring: Swansea and Coventry for example.
His passing and distribution has always been questionable and his shooting diabolical. Don't even think about coming back and saying he is not in the side to score goals everyone is in the side to score goals if they are in with a scoring opportunity.
Monty however much you love him for his effort, grit and determination is not the saviour he is not going to improve from what he is an honest trier with very limited ability!

You're going away from your original statement Fiery. You said Monty gets little or no end result and now you're talking about his goalscoring record. Thats not why he's there. You asked what I thought the end results were, I said what I thought they were and then you tagged on the goalscoring, perhaps you should be clearer to start.

Personally with Monty I'd never let him shoot or play a ball more than 5 yds.

Monty, like it or not is there to do a very specific job. Goals from such a Midfielder are a nice to have, yes he should take his chances every now and then, he should hit the target more but I don't expect him to score goals. Look at the top of the PL, Makele has done just the same job as Monty for years and rarely scores.

I'm not sure why Monty is getting in those positions, My concern is that the likes of Howard, Tonge, Quinn, Cotterill, Ward etc and now Harper have never delivered enough goals from Midfield. But thats a different story.

Yes he's honest, he's a trier but he's also improved a lot and I believe last season he concentrated on what he's great at and left the rest to the more technical midfielders... Trouble is, they didn't do their job either. When Monty stuck to his game and found his form, the results changed. This is not saying that Monty was the missing link, but his contribution was huge and for me he's in a category way above the likes of Quinny or Howard.

I don't think I implied that Monty would be the saviour (perhaps someone else said that), but we certainly need him in the team and in form. He's worth a a great deal to us.

Something that can't currently be said about Quinn or and based on Sats performance, Killgallon.

monty is great at winning the ball.. trouble is he then loses it and then has to win it back again.. ad infinitum.. quinn .. does.. absolutely.. umm.. nothing as far as i can see

Siss,
I think you are being hard on Harper! He has scored this season and his games:goals ratio is far better than Monty or Howard.
With regards to scoring I was just listing things that Monty is not good at! I would never question Monty's endeavour or commitment and I believe that in certain games he would be in my side but I would only pick him to do a specific joib and would certainly not look to him to lead us to the promised land!

No problem for the misspelling Fery!

Yeah perhaps I'm being tough on Harper, its still very early days for him and I think he'll come good. The point was that he's an attacking midfielder and Monty is defensive, so his responsibility is more goals based.

I know what you mean, but I was responding to your first comment.

Monty may not lead us to the promised land, but I he's a good man to have a long side the leader.

Last game 3 was counted.

He's becomming less of an entertainment package :(

Well lets go away from the doom and gloom and start a new game up.

It's been a long running joke with me and a few mates that Stephen Quinn is quite funny.... whenever I think of him I always think of him with his hands on his head..... he does this numerous times in a game. So we've decided to start counting the amount of times he does this pose......

Aptly named - Quinn Watch. I think we should all guess before a game how many times he will do it and come back and see who is right.

Gives a bit of entertainment when watching a poor performance....

Great performances from Quinny in recent weeks. I was at QPR and he had another good game. Great assist for Wards goal. Very underrated by some United supporters in my opinion.

Very underperforming more than under rated.

He has the potential, but since Blackwell has been here, he hasn't produced.

Fantastic today, the Duracell is back. Only spotted twice today, once when their player went off with poorly toes, and when he mis read his tackle near the end and commited that foul.
But today MOTM.

Great little player. Quinny had a great game against Boro and stood out. MOM in my opinion. Well done young man and keep it up.

I admire your support of him, but are you actually Stephen Quinn?

I'm sure someone could actually have a look at this and maybe it's me noticing what I'm looking for but Squinny seems to be the 1st player celebrating with the goal scorer every time.

Firstly I support Sheff Utd and say it how I see it. Quinny's played as well and a lot better than some but always seems to get pulled down by a certain few on here. He was most peoples MOM on Saturday so it would seem the likes of you are in the minority with your view of him.

Have you actually ever played football? ;)

Nobody is taking away his performance on Saturday. Nor are they taking away some of his perfromances of late.

Under Blackwell on the whole he has been poor and under-performed (note under performed)

Quinny has something, but he needs to cut out all his daft flicks and prancing around. I don't think he has performed as well as he can under Blackwell.... prior to this he was a promising player - especially under Warnock.

Have you actually ever played football? ;)

Yes thank you, I even run my own team too..... but that's irrelevant. We are talking about an under performing Stephen Quinn.
