Lost respect for you pommpey, Higdon 2/10... Baxter 4/10.... Flynn 6/10..... I think your depiction of the players performances were "fucking pathetic" rather than Baxter's performance.... Kept us in the tie with the superb tackle, fair enough he gave it away a few times which was poor on his part but often he made space for himself excellently and played some great balls. At least he fucking tries things unlike Scougall. Who did play well as everyone did. Baxter had a poor start but grew into the game brilliantly. Flynn was outstanding, did you even go to the game? Because anyone who could give Flynn below 8/10 has no evidence of a performance below that. Higdon helped Che change the game around.

I thought Higdon was great when he came on. Got the ball into space, held it up well, that was his job was it not. You can tell this ridiculous and quite frankly unfair criticism is getting to him as he walked off into the tunnel when everyone else was applauding the fans. Not what I would have done but totally understandable.

I thought Reed was pretty good, shame about his chance but when he came on we started playing a lot better. Adams was phenomenal too. Flynn was superb and so was Murphy.

I'm not even gonna waste my time reading this whole thead, because anybody criticising our players after that wants their bumps feeling...

Maybe some got carried away by the giant killing that our team seem to specialise in, but tonight we drew with spurs and led, but sadly were undone by proper quality, the free kick was unsaveable, and the second was quality....

Admire the performance by our team, praise our players, because they did us proud all the way up to and incuding this game...

We are batting well above our level, what's not to be happy about..

Lost by an odd goal... over 180 minutes...

Wind yourselves in and be proud... utb

In a midfield packed with athletes he looked a pub player until the game opened up. I'm afraid he's destined to be a lower league Jan Molby.

Spot on.

Great potential, and oh, what a tackle, but he was lost in midfield in the first half. If Doyle hadn't have been booked, i'm sure baxter would have come off instead.

Some people really do have it in for Higdon, 2/10?! haha
A flange behind us managed to berate him for lack of something whilst Vorm was taking a goal kick.

I though Harris and Murphy were sensational tonight, Flynn and Scougall also excellent.

Baxter was absolutely gash in the first half, ok in the second.

I was telling my boro supporting mate that spurs would hardly be quaking against an 18 year old plucked from ilkeston, and up he pops twice to prove me a complete twat.

Great finish for the first.

Can't agree with 2/10 for Higdon at all.

Fucking hell. People are having a reyt rooer about me giving 6/10 for TheNewBraytonFlynn, innit.

So, who was picking Eriksson up for his second goal then ...

Get real. He has had a purple patch in a new role. I wish the feller the best, but Brayton is back. Like I say, there is still a place for Flynn somewhere, but he is nesh as fuck in the challenge and seems lost unless he has space in front of him. He has been doing this for a few seasons now and I think people get a bit starry eyed just because he has put in a few above average performances in that RB role. I admit, his cross was good (but it was intended for the Higgopotamus who was two yards slow for it) and it found Che at the back stick lurking. It wasn't exactly Lampardesque. His ball through to Reed was about the best thing he did all night.

Lets see what the next few games bring. Dry your eyes, eh. Its only a game.

One thing Flynn isn't is nesh ,as for the goal the problem was giving Kane the time and space to thread the ball in. You must see a different game on TV. Is tonight really the night for having a dig at our players ?

What's up, sitwell?

'Dig at our players'? Check my 'bullshit' write-up (as you succinctly put it) You'll see that much of our playing staff come in for some well-deserved praise. Flynn tonight was not good, and the evidence (neshing it, nowhere to go unless it is signposted so therefore backwards, gash at marking) was there to be seen. But by all means, big him up because he is justifying the wage, whydontcha? He's been playing shit for several seasons now (bourne out by write ups aplenty) and there are better players I feel for the job. Try not to make your growing distaste for me (and other opposers of your POV on here) shine so brightly. Others disagree with me in a fair minded manner. you have it in the 'personal' column.

Proud Blade tonight, come on lads, we lost 3-2 over two legs, to a team in the top 6 of the Premier League, with players who cost more than our entire squad! Young lads as well, Baxter, Murphy, Scougall, Flynn, Reed, Adams, all under 25, Reed and Adams not even 20!!!

We should have started Adams, I said this after watching him down at MK Dons the other week, he did more in 10 minutes than Scougall did in 45 (sorry Scougs, just saying it as I saw it), has a look abd physical build of a young Kyle Walker, solid without being overly stocky, and with pace. If Reed had got his body over the ball it would have been a different result, but its not, so there we are. UTB.

There is a place for criticising players and I do ,but minutes after a display like that ,to ridicule and abuse our own players takes some doing. Well done you.
As for disagreeing with you in a 'fair minded manner' righto.
Btw have you noticed how many people liked or agreed with your assessment of the game. Jack ,that's how many , now that takes some doing.

Is that what it is all about, sitwell? 'How many people agree with or liked it'?

Cor, you're a right piece of work. I've known you on these boards for some years now, and you've suddenly turned into a right mardy arse.

I couldn't give a fat fuck how many agree or like my write up. Its my opinion. I'm concerned you chose to judge it as 'bullshit' mind but then again, this season has been an exercise is justifying mediocrity away from the Cup challenges for you, hasn't it? Our League One position upholds that somewhat misguided viewpoint, doesn't it?

Never mind. Like I say, I hope I am wrong about Flynn. But one purple patch does not make him the new Len Badger, does it? You still haven't answered who was supposed to be close-in on Eriksson when he found himself in Graves Park to slot in their winner. But never mind. Onwards and erm ... yeah ...

pommpey

nowhere to go unless it is signposted so therefore backwards

Indeed. It must have been some minor miracle that he has able to advance from the halfway line to cross in for the equaliser.

I don't think anyone on here is suggesting that Flynn is some sort of undroppable world-beater. In the second half he gave away two fairly cheap free-kicks, and it's clear he switches off for the Eriksen equaliser. But he did plenty of decent stuff today aside from the excellent assist, and was overall one of our better players - despite this not being his natural position. He was also a big part of our successes under Clough last season when playing in his natural position. Obviously Brayford will start at right-back in our remaining non-Cup games, but I think Flynn has plenty to offer us for the rest of the season.

Higdon has his slaggers and doesn't yet deserve it imo.Baxter on the other hand, people can't wait to slag him,and it isn't just aimed at you neccessarily this Highbury as this is the first time i've noticed you berate him but come on,Baxter wasn't very good in the first half and neither was anybody else really in an attacking sense for that matter, but second half, especially when Doyle went off,he was great in that role and funnily enough,we never looked liked scoring while ever Doyle was on the pitch so we needed an attacking change and Baxter made a difference in that role as did Higdon and obviously Adams.

To me this was a great sub taking Doyle off and it would be nice to see Baxter play the deeper role more often against lesser players so to speak as he could quite clearly run the show. Some people on this thread need to watch the match back as Baxter wasn't no where near as bad as some are making out.Our defence got breached time and time again in the first half, this never gets noticed,it's just the same old faces getting the same old criticisms,it's absolutely boring.

Their last goal would have been offside if Basham had stayed in line and not dropped off when the ball was passed through

His cameo tonight has been about typical of his appearance all season, has it not?

And how the fuck would you know? Sat at home listening to Keith is not representative of how he or the other players actually play. And this is not a bigger Blade post. I just get sick and tired of negativity after a performance like last night. Perspective PLEASE!

Howard 8 Some great saves

Flynn 8 Continues to surprise me at right back. Will challenge for right midfield with JCR from now on
Basham 7,5 Love his enthusiasm. Gets caught out of position sometimes
McEveley 8 Had a lot of running to do tonight against the excellent Kane. Just did enough though on several occasions. Great forward run on the ball.
Harris 8 So many challenges, fantastic energy and although he looks like going in too rashly, he wins the ball most of the time.

JCR 6 We couldn't get him involved enough
Scougall 7 Mixed performance on the ball, and often seems so unlucky, as the ball often don't drop for him. Fantastic work rate though.
Doyle 6 1st half we were struggling to cover enough space. Baxter strolling around meant Doyle had too much running to do and he was pulled out of position time and time again, forcing him to make desperate challenges, rather than just sweeping up which he did in the first leg. Some great tackles though.
Baxter 7 Poor first half, where he didn't close down enough, nor track runs, nor cover enough space. Excellent last 30 minutes. What a tackle, dictated things and got stuck in.
Murphy 9 Proved that he can do it against Premiership players as well. Superb.

McNulty 5 Struggled all game, though had it tough. Should probably have been taken off sooner.

Subs:

Adams 9 Great composure. Kept Walker behind him in a race for the ball. Think he has a role to play and can give us goals from midfield.
Higdon 7 Put himself about, and gave us something more to aim at.
Reed 7 Think we made a mistake in not starting him. Shame he couldn't get his shot on target when he ran through.
Always respect your thought and think you are spot on again.

pommpey

Having seen it live and again on TV, Eriksson drifts forward from a central midfield position and Flynn tried to cut in from a RB position but Eriksson was too quick. For me, just an example of how good a player Eriksson is and unfair to point the finger at Flynn. If a finger should be pointed (and I'm not), it should be at a midfield player. But the circumstances of the game at the time were that we were having a go at winning it and the midfielders were generally pushing further forward. As I say, a very good goal from a very good player (but not quite a quality goal from a quality player;))

As for Flynn, I've never been his biggest fan but since moving to RB, he has been a revelation IMHO and even seems to be more of an attacking threat from RB than when he plays RM, a perfect example being his assist for the first goal last night.

Just my humble opinion Pommpey and I hope not harsh enough to pop in your "personal" column:)

Can't disagree with Bergen really:

Howard 8 - I wonder whether he sold himself with the half step to his left, expecting Eriksen to do what almost any right footed player would do with the free-kick: go for the right side of the goal but it was still some effort. Aside from that his handling and distribution was very good - if only that clearance at the end had bounced lower...

Flynn 8 - attacking-wise he'd get a 9 at least with a great run and cross for the first goal. Got very little support from Campbell-Ryce but still gave away some cheap free-kicks and switched off for Eriksen's second.
Basham 8 - solid and comfortable in possession. Loses half a mark for failing to hold his line when Kane threaded the ball through for their second.
McEveley 8 - did better against Kane than Cahill and went on one excellent run. Always looks like he's about to dive in but managed to resist!
Harris 9 - brilliant performance against a very tricky opponent in Lamela. Got forward when he could.

Campbell-Ryce 5 - just couldn't get into the game as he was looking to isolate Davies but that meant that we couldn't get the ball to him. He'd also evidently been pinpointed as a major threat so was closed down much more quickly than at White Hart Lane. It wouldn't surprise me if he made way for Flynn on Saturday.
Doyle 6 - he really struggles against quick (of mind or body) players and it showed. Always gives his all but last night that wasn't enough. I don't think it's any coincidence that we improved when he went off as it meant that the midfield was 10 yards further forward.
Baxter 6 - made up of a 4 for his first half and an 8 for the second. Hugely frustrating and we were fortunate that he didn't cost us a goal by losing possession on the half way line but showed desire in tracking Mason and getting a fantastic tackle in. When we're going forward, he's a very good player.
Scougall 8 - must be a really irritating player to play against. Never stopped hassling their midfield in possession and looked to make things happen going forward
Murphy 9 - class act. Gave Walker a difficult evening even if he really should have scored after 10 minutes.

McNulty 5 - didn't happen for him tonight. Poor hold up play but I don't think that's a strength of his anyway.

Subs:
Reed 7 - but for a bobble...
Adams 9 - the boy's a talent. Great, supremely composed finish for the first and in the right place for the second.
Higdon 7 - unlucky to not get on the end of Flynn's cross, how much better does he look when the midfield is playing 10-20 yard balls into him rather than the defence lumping 50-70 yard balls to his head?

Clough 7 - the changes made the difference. Maybe not against Swindon but against the more limited sides in League One I'd like to see him experiment not having Doyle in the team as I think it will force us forwards.

So so so wrong re. Flynn.
He was amazing last night, that run to create the first goal. Had it been JCR he would have waited for the defender to come to him, danced round for a few twists and turns and if we were lucky put a half decent cross in.

9/10 for Flynn. Wait while beard is at RB and Flynn is running for him on the right

Indeed, watching back it was also a great pass for Reed for his chance, a great run for Scoogs half chance and some good play in the build up for Adams second.

Overall... 5/10.

JCR did quite well in the first half and caused them more snags down that flank. Flynn seems to nesh out of the challenge too often

pommpey
I thought JCR had a very poor game, particularly first half. He frustrated me as he'd beat his man, then go back to beat him again. We needed the ball into the box early

Hey, he went to Portsmouth away in 2013 don't you know!
