With the draw taking place after the 1pm kick off on Sunday it means we're definitely in it. Will knowing the likely Quarter Final opponents make a difference? Knowing who the winners may face could help motivate either side if it's one of the big sides. Though if the pigs win on Saturday and that's the draw then it may be more of a motivator for us!

Quick quiz. When were we last in the FA cup quarter final draw and against whom were we drawn?

2004/5 and it would have been Bolton if we'd won the replay v Arsenal.

I would have thought the incentive is there for both. If we are drawn at home against the winners of Cardiff v Wigan, Weds v Charlton or Brighton v Hull, that is a winnable game for both parties and a pass into the Semi.

I think the only way we would get more of an incentive would be to draw Weds.

Either way, I think Forest will win. They don't have enough in their squad to rotate the squad like Fulham did. I hope we're not complacent and think because we've beaten 2 Premiership teams, this game is a given as Forest will provide a much bigger test than Fulham did and Aston Villa.

Were we drawn against Cardiff in the quarters but lost a reply against Middlesbrough at the Riverside?

The year Pompey won it. 2008?

08/09 - Took Hull to a replay but lost. We were drawn against Arsenal

??

Correct!

You could technically say, we were drawn in the final in 1998 as we played our semi after Arsenal had won theirs. Thats also the only time we have ever been one game away from Europe*. As Arsenal would clearly qualify for the Champions League (they won the league that season) had we won our semi we would have guaranteed a place in the Cup Winners' Cup

* Don't make me explain again why we were NOT one game away from Europe at Birmingham in 1975.
