Our Nige said the other day that we need and will be signing 'three or four quality'players in the summer ..
Does this include Bray and Conor Coady ?
Or are these gonna be different people altogether,or include these two ?Very confusing.
Think this was in an interview with the star..

No idea if it includes Brayford and Cody but I'd presume we need more then 2 new players in the squad for next season.
We are light in certain areas and I think Clough knows now who he wants in this squad and who he wants rid off.

I'm sure he has a very good idea of who he wants to bring in as well. This will include striker(s) that he actually wants, rather than ones he would make do with [i.e. those available in January and since].

We should go for that young striker at Coventry. Secure Brayford and Coady as well. Room for one more?

I think we fans should manage our expectations. We might imagine that the colour of the prince's money might show through this summer and indeed the profit from the cup run. On the other hand, the FFP rules will still be in play.

I believe Maguire, Baxter and Murphy will be in demand and I expect them all to leave. There might well be interest in Long too. Brayford and Coady will get better offers.

Coming in I expect Davies is a cert and Freeman a possible.

Much depends on the wage budget limit as to how NC can retain each of the above named.

Only when that all pans out will we know how many players we will need. On the other hand, NC does not make careless comments, and he did say "three or four quality players". Has he done his work on his current players already? Does he know who will be leaving realistically?

Then again aren't there about 8 contracts up this summer as well as individual circumstances/ relationships? Surely we won't keep Porter, Paynter, Brandy, Taylor, Miller.

I think NC was actually stating a. "Net 3/4" as a guide to the intended strength of next season's squad.

Then there's DiGio. To keep hold of him he has to get plenty of first team playing time.

Spot on post Woody. The five players you mention are in their earning prime and no one could blame them for moving on to big wages and clubs in higher leagues. There may be an exception because of the phenomenal end to the season in Harry or Murphy but don't hold your hopes out, if any decide to go NC can do nothing to prevent it. On the other hand he commands such loyalty in players (Brayford) they might give him until January 2015 to see how it's going.
Regardless of them leaving I am confident NC will put a strong squad together. He's the sort of manager that makes the best of the effort of the collective parts rather than a few individual stars.

It'll be a wait-and-see game for all parties. Would Brayford want to go back to Cardiff if they get relegated? Will Cardiff want to keep paying his wages on much-reduced income. If Derby are promoted, will Kieron Freeman figure in their plans?

Let's trust Cloughie. Obviously Paynter was a mistake but, as Pinchy says, he was a 'make do' signing.

Paynter has been the only blot on an otherwise remarkable few months of trnasfer dealings from Clough.

I would expect us to sign at least 2 strikers, a Centre Mid & Winger & Right Back & Left back this summer.

And then theres Keeping hold of Harry & trying to keep hold of Brayford & Coady

At least one of those mentioned above is almost certainly back as season long loan. Not 100% sorted and confirmed but far more likely than not according to what I hear.

Maybe a practical approach would be to decide who's still got a contract or an option after this summer and is not wanted.

I'd move on McGinty, Brandy, Taylor probably, McGinn, Porter and maybe Miller.

Edit: whoops, wrong thread!!

Maguire, Murphy and Baxter are all under contract to Sheffield United.
Of course NC can prevent them leaving until we receive an offer that he considers to be acceptable.
While ever we have this attitude that it's impossible to keep our best players, we will never improve.

I don't share the pessimism. I believe Coady, Beard, Maguire, Murphy and Baxter will all be here next year.

I think Taylor, Brandy, Cuvelier (sadly), Miller (sadly) and quite a few fringe and development players will be moved on.

Don't disagree with the sentiment SB but the reality is we are a L1 club with restrictions on what we can pay to a player in wages.

If the Prince is serious about investing money then the FFP rules are not an issue. He can make our turnover be whatever he wants it to be.

Well i'd be guessing who they might be unless NC is not considering CC and JB or BD and LF as "new" signings as there is a chance all 4 could stay therefore there must be at least 2 strikers wanted, so either current players on loan are not classes as new or the 4 already here aren't all expected to stay.

Totally agree ..... we need 4/5 players in addition to retaining Coady, Brayford, Harris, and Harry if possible.
Wages do not need to be sky high in this League .

So what? They're under contract. We will pay them what the contract says.
The logical extension of your argument is that if say Hull offer us £50K for Maguire but offer to treble his wages, we have to either match their wages or let him leave for £50K. We don't. Where do you draw the line?
All outgoings of contracted players should be the manager's decision on the basis that he can improve not weaken the team with the money we receive.

This is our chance of building a good young team for the future hopefully with Coady Baxter and Harry leading us I think securing Coady a bray ford for next year is a must

Brayford apart, none of the above are good enough for premiership yet, but champion ship yes, and that's we're they will be next season WITH US.

NC is playing his cards close to his chest about who will be in the team next season, although it does look like Long will be going.
Probably on loan some where, but he did more or less say on F/H that every body has a price...

That may or may not be true, and only to a limited degree. The FFP rules do include references to maximum market rates for sponsorship and other subsidies. KM did say Bournemouth achieved it last season though , but we all know which club will be held to account if anybody is.

Realistically, whilst Brayford would be great ,spending over £1million on a right back/cover centre half to play in the 3rd tier doesn't make sense and is not what we would need (Freeman instead could do the job at right back). As for Coady, wouldn't Liverpool want him in the Championship next season to see if he can replace Gerard when he retires ?. Although I do think we have more chance of signing Coady(as opposed to Brayford) if Liverpool want to get rid.? Due to their age I don't think we can sign them on year long loans . I also have a suspicion that the first £2million bid will see Harry leave( he is a 3rd tier centre half so that is probably all we would get) with some of the monies being passed to NC

I would rather spend any money we have on the striker we desperately need, a couple of midfielders, a couple of central defenders (assuming Collins and Hill will be squad players ) and decent left wing cover.

I reckon Brandy,Taylor,Baxter,Porter and possibly McGinn along with the rest of those out on loan will also leave. Culvier will obviously have to prove his fitness before a decision is made but he wasn't in Clough's plans before

Probably on loan some where, but he did more or less say on F/H that every body has a price...

I thought that rather than say everyone has a price, he simply said that both Howard & Long will want to be first choice, and that it won't help Long's career sitting on the bench next season. In fact I think NC specifically said that the last thing he wants to do is sell him.

There was a time that we'd have been looking at a 7-figure sum for Long. Every month he's stuck on the bench that value dips - I suspect a season-long loan somewhere with Willis becoming the sub keeper is how this will pan out next year.

I suppose we tend to forget that this is a market Woody, and I should imagine NC may well have in his head the players he would like to hold on to, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will be the players he will be left with.....
Any more than I would think he will want to bring in or hold on to too many players for a promotion push out of this division that would just be a drain on his wage bill in the Championship ..
