Quality goal by a quality player

BERGE,s finish today was that of a prem player. He's slowly adding finishing to his game at just the right time. CONFIDENT display from the team and a thoroughly professional convincing win
He still piss's me right off, he has outstanding qualities but also really shit ones.
His goal was fantastic, some of his runs with the ball are sublime, but his marking of players and movement off the ball, especially his getting back or closing down are so slow and cumbersome, and he looks like he doesn't care, and then he turns it on and he's brilliant!?
So annoying.

Superb finish. He's so frustrating. If we could get him playing at 100% all the time he will take us up. He's got it in him to be the best player in the division...he just looks disinterested so much of the time.
I didn’t think he looked disinterested yesterday. He tracked back well and won several headers !
What he doesn’t do is dive into tackles, which is probably no bad thing as the opponent has to release the ball when he confronts them.
His finish had the mark of class: most players would he struck it powerfully in the general direction of the goal.

You just have to let players do what they do well and let them off with what they don't do well, as long as they are doing their bit well, there isn't a problem.

He's not a defender, he's not a defensive minded midfielder, he's not got a solitary ounce of defensive capability in him, and yet he was bought as a defensive midfielder.

Just shows how much research went into buying him

Berge is quality however the one thing he lacks is decision making at the final hurdle.

So many times this season he is in a better position to shoot than the guy he passes it to who subsequently shoots from a tighter or less inviting angle. He also often takes an extra touch before seeing a shot blocked. It made me think he doesn’t have a shot on him. Then he does this and it frustrates me thinking how many he could have scored if he just hit it more often. His finish against Wrexham also highlighted his finishing ability that he hugely underuses.

If he did it more often though he wouldn’t still be here so… I suppose every cloud and all that.

It's the sort of finish I'd like to see Norwood attempt more. I think he'd have more success with a hard, accurate pass into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, but too often he wellies it over the bar.

I hear this he was brought in as a defensive midfielder but that's not exactly true is it? Deep lying midfielder maybe but that was only fan theories! He's very obviously neither of those things. I can't remember any Norwood style pings from him which is what Wilder ball was based on.

Berge doesn't realise how good he can truly be... He's got the lot.... Physically he's imposing, technically he's very good... He just needs to realise how important it is that he imposes himself on the game..... He should be begging for the ball like N'Diaye does.... When he does that... We will all see just how good he is.

The man is too nice, he needs to get more physical, like the refreshed Norwood has this season.

Wilder said he was going to become a defensive midfielder for us, eventually.
He played a deeper role in Belgium...
You're correct that, as it transpires, he's better in advanced positions.

Berge's finish was top class. He's a good finisher, keeps his composure.

One annoying habit he has around the box is that he plays his pass to the wide overlapping player a touch too heavy. It prevents them from being able to put in a decent first time cross / shot and slows us down. It's a very minor adjustment but could help our attacks out if he can fix it.

Dimitar Berbatov was often derided as being lazy because he didn’t run pell-mell around the pitch like a nutter, but he was one of the most sublime players I’ve ever seen.

Berge gets unnecessary brickbats from English fans who like high-tempo performances and can’t see past a player being composed on and off the ball. I’m not saying his game doesn’t have flaws - as others have pointed out, he plays for us so he’s never going to be absolutely world class - but when those same people slag Osborne off for having a lot of energy but little finesse, it makes me shake my head a bit.

Agreed, I wasn't referring to yesterday, I thought he had a cracking match. More in general a lot of the time he almost seems to jog round the pitch waiting for the action to happen to/near him, as opposed to using his undoubted class to make things happen himself.

disinterested
