Thought Vinnies time at Sheff United was mixed.

Lets be honest….ability wise he was very average at best…some would say a bit crap.
However his attitude was first class. He hated losing with a passion and always gave 100%.
He also wasn’t afraid to slag off his own team mates on the pitch if they weren’t giving 100%...fans appreciate players who care.

These we’re the type of players Blades usually warmed too…but as we had a struggling side we needed quality not a hard working battler.
So Vinnie wasn‘t as appreciated by the Bramall Lane faithful as much he could have been.

I‘ve heard him on the radio talk about his football career and he kind of skips his time at Sheff United.
He makes reference to his ties with Dave Bassett but you sense he classes the move from Chelsea to Sheff Utd as a mistake.

I agree with your point, but not wanting to appear pedantic didn't he move to the Lane from dirty Leeds, and we then sold him to Chelsea? I might be wrong as the memory isn't what it once was.

ICYMI and you'd like to hear what Vinnie has to say about Dave Bassett and his time at Bramall Lane (it's a surprise to say the least), you can listen anytime as a podcast (also featuring Chris Kamara) just search 'Once Upon A Time On The Pitch' on your preferred podcast provider or go here:

Possibly my mistake. When he talks about his career it’s Wimbledon, Leeds, Chelsea and he quickly skips through Sheff Utd…as though it didn’t happen.

Thoroughly enjoyed this thank you Hal. I didn’t realize your day job was as a BFBS host?
As a long time consumer of BFBS services, it’s nice to enjoy the highly polished performances of today, compared to the earlier creaky efforts from the 1970s.
More please. :)

I went to an evening with Dave Bassett recently and he told a few anecdotes about Vinnie. The implication being that Vinnie was as thick as mince.

Did he tell the story about Ian Bryson needing a cortisone injection prior to a game, when Vinnie found out he asked if he could have one, thinking it was a new car model !!!!!!!!!

That's brilliant!

No he didn't. He told one from his Wimbledon days about a player (possibly called Williams?) from another team that Vinnie was giving grief to for being Welsh and the guy wasn't even Welsh.
Ironically Vinnie later played for Wales himself of course.

My fellow Blades.

I will be hosting a LIVE 'Q & A with Vinnie Jones' on Tuesday 26th Jan at 6pm, it's free and I'd love it if you could join and ask him questions in the chat section on Facebook, I'll pose them to him, anything Sheffield United related or about his films would be grand.

LIVE on the FB page for BFBS Radio: https://www.facebook.com/BFBSRadio

Full Details: https://www.forces.net/quizvinnie
I would love to hear any stories about any booze ups with Brad Pitt, Jason Statham et al

Ask him did it hurt when Bonehead knocked him spark out in the casino for acting billy big bollocks.

The interview is bizarre, he started eating halfway through and at the end he suggested I come to the US for a career in the porn industry.

I wonder if Vinnie could , by sheer force of personality , persuade Mousset to put some effort into life or even just football
