I think it was a lad from Blades Mad who bought the domain name, then linked it to the oinkers forum,,, must have been a couple of years ago now...

If I remember correctly he'd had a bit of a win on the nags and wanted to put the money to good use!

If someone who knew the ins and outs of SEO, there's no reason why swfc.co.uk couldn't be sent onto the first page for the word "pigs".

Just sayin like...

Getting their forum listed for Pork Talk is decent enough I think.

The sheffield forum link mentioning it is funny.

You'd need access to the admin side of the website in order to edit some key elements like meta titles and descriptions before "swfc.co.uk" could even get close to being ranked so highly for a phrase as generic as "pigs".

You were probably only speaking hypothetically though!

Google (and therefore any other half-decent search engine) ignores meta tags for SEO

Not meta tags. Meta titles (the short, blue hyper-linked title after you've searched something in Google) and meta descriptions (the brief description underneath the URL).

Google does ignore the tags/keywords though, yeah.

I was to a certain extent (for such a short head keyphrase), but I 'know of' a couple of sites ranking in first place for fairly competitive keyphrases without said phrases residing in page titles nor H1s, but simply with lots of links pointing at the site. In fact, my name ranks for one of my clients simply due to links and without me appearing anywhere on the bloody site.

All hypothetical of course.

Meta titles - MASSIVE part of relevance
Meta descriptions - Don't play a part in rank and haven't for years, but they do assist with CTR.
