As my old eyes are not so great - when I have been to the game I always try to spend Sunday evening going through the iFollow full game recording, with many pauses and replays! Wow - even better than on the day when you don't have the stress!
First of all - a couple of bullets dodged. When they were 1-0 up, as many posted, JOC handled - his feet were on the line , his hand was possibly inside, ref gave nothing. A shitty ref would have given the pen, a good ref would have given a free kick on the line, fortunately this ref didn't see it!! The next bullet dodged - just after they scored in our first attack Leon chases a ball into their box studs first and catches their bloke's knee - not full on but does catch him. Leon already on yellow. Ref lets it go. A Shitty ref would have given a second yellow and there would have been a very different history.
Then the porn - Leon's 1st - like a slow hanging- Coutts' challenge runs to Fleck, his 40 yard pass goes to Stevens who keeps it in with head to Bill, Bill touches it back to Duff who passes to Fleck, 20,000 scream Man On, Fleck turns and flicks to Coutts who passes wide to Bash, CCV streams past him, takes Bash's pass and hammers it across low, Leon is attacking the near post and flicks it up across and past the keeper. I still don't know which foot he used but it was pure genius. The whole thing was slow strangulation.
Dull were gone then - completely knackered. Then something odd happened. Away from anybody Leon went down holding his back on both sides - nobody seems to have touched him. He's lying on the ground for ages and eventually Moore chucks it out and the physio comes on. Physio with him for a couple of minutes and he hobbles off - play continues and Leon comes on and runs like a man possessed. Then I remember the same in another game - was it Leeds - and I wonder if it's a ploy to make people allow him a bit more space.
Then second goal - like a swift dagger to the heart. Leon flicks it with the outside of his foot to Duff and just keeps going, Duff times the ball back to perfection and Leon calmly chips the keeper from about 2 feet in front of him. Third goal - straightforward class, Billy chip to Leo's head, fourth goal Leon casually controls an 80-yard hoof with the outside of his foot before scoring after a 1-2 off a defender!
Leon leaves to a deafening chant and their number 7 congratulates him. After the game their number 9 Dicko (?) shakes his hand - nice bits of class. Final thing I liked - after the game Leon is wandering around being congratulated and the ref comes looking for him with the ball - he didn't ask for it but the ref knew he would want it.
What a game. I go for the emotion, but being able to go through the detail the next day at your leisure really fills in a lot of gaps. Thanks Leon - Thanks iFollow.
