Punting it upfield to a 5’8 striker

I watched it…..we missed a sitter to win it.……and that’s a fact
Their xg was 1.75 and ours was 0.5, your definition of a sitter is obviously not agreed with by the football geeks. Do you disagree our performance and inability to hold the ball meant we were lucky to only be 1 goal down?

I’m not saying anything in opposition to what you’ve said 😂 I’m just making a statement

Fair enough. As you’d replied to me it seemed as though your random statement was aimed in my direction 👍

We man marked and struggled early on with their players roaming around and pulling our defenders out of position. It looked like it could be a very poor game and an ugly result. But while we didn't look good, we kept it to 0-1, with the goal coming after some very good skill from Brighton's players. In terms of big chances they actually didn't have any more:

We gained better defensive control after their goal. After their big European game in the week, they may have lacked the hunger to really go at us and create lots of chances. Maybe Hecky deserves some credit for this. Although we looked poor, we stayed in the game, had some attacks and some set pieces at the end of the half. Our defensive shape had some nullifying effects on their threats.

In the second half they had some spells of pressure, but it was already more even when the red card happened. From then on we dominated.

I wonder what would have happened if we had made more substitutions and really gone for it. They looked to tire in the second half. Hecky doesn't seem to trust his bench though. Then again, you do take a risk when throwing on subs who are less experienced. Slimane didn't do particularly well and if the other subs had been similar, we may have made mistakes that may have seen them break away more often.

I'm reasonably happy with 1-1, and it sets up nicely for the two vital games coming up.

I never expected us to go toe to toe with Brighton, but the fact we keep playing how we are doing is baffling. We play 3 and in this case 4 midfielders and don’t even try to play through the thirds. It’s just a straight bang upfront and then we’re defending again and it’s been like it all season.

Im delighted with a point in the end but like you allude to, very much a potential missed opportunity for me.

Brighton came out, at home, on the back of beating Ajax, against bottom of the league ….. and your surprised we were 2nd best😂😂

We hung in there, didn’t collapse after the early goal, took advantage of the red card and had a couple of decent chances to win

Not sure what your expectations are, but news for ya, we’re going to struggle, but picking up points here is a decent result

We look good when we can get players around Archer. I think it’s a confidence thing & a panic that we could concede at anytime which stops us attacking with any real conviction.

Be interesting to see where McBurnie slots back in

Good result and a lot better 2nd half again. We looked knackered after an hour a few games ago, but we are starting to push from 60 minutes now.

We were 2nd best today, but we could have won it.

Overhauling Derby's points total looks achievable.

Might have a couple of players back after the international break.

I'm a happy bunny today

I assume our xg would have been higher if Webster had left the ball for Archer instead of putting it in his own net?

He brings on the same subs week in week out and we get the SAME outcome.

So all this "world beating" shit is absolute bollocks. Give someone else a chance to try something DIFFERENT for a fucking change.

Every week, Osborn comes on and offers us NOTHING
Osborn made an impact this week.

I’d say he should score, I’m not sure it’s a sitter. They had similarly good chances.
Fine margins ' its all about FM's this league. We coulda shoulda woulda won it with a good striker in that position.
Get a sandwich Slim Man.

If not a sitter, then Bogle should have at least made the keeper make a save. To not even hit the target from 6 yards out was awful.
Yep I agree, he should’ve scored sitter or not. But my point is they had chances to score too, we can’t keep gifting teams chances and expect to stay up. They won’t always go down to 10

Agreed, on chances they should have won. Once it was 11 v 10 we had the upper hand.

In the end 1-1 was a decent point, had we been offered that at 2pm.

Who's surprised about being 2nd best? I literally said they're a better team than us and I don't mind losing 🤣

The issue isn't being 2nd best, the issue is playing how we're playing. The first half vs Wolves was shite, up until the sending off yesterday was shite.
It sorta makes sense if McBurnie is on the pitch to lump it forward, but when you've got Archer on his own it's bordering on lunacy. The ball will just keep coming back, and yesterday we were fortunate it was only 1-0 by the time their man got sent off.

Also, we barely went hell for leather to win it did we after the goal? We didn't bring Osula on until 90+3 or summat.

In the end is it a good point? Yes.
But we are a dire dire watch, and it's no wonder MOTD and the likes don't spend long talking about us - yet everyone in here cries about that.
We need to spend 2 weeks now working on passing the ball and moving, because we are trying to play a style that you can't get away with in this league, they're all bigger, stronger and quicker than we are.

I dont think the tactic is to lump it forward to 5'10" Archer, its just that our lads brains and ability cant play tik-a-tak-a out from the back

So rather than get caught out 25yds from goal, they panic a bit and whack it long - not ideal, but the least worse option

As you say, the oppo are bigger, stronger and quicker than we are, playing them at their established EPL game is suicide, ask Burnley

I think our tactic is stay in the game (unlike vs Newcastle), then play averages that we get a breakaway (Archer v Wolves), a decision (Baldock v Wolves) or an advantage (yesterday) and try to capitalise on it

Given our acknowledged short comings, its probably the only tactic thats left, and hard facts tell us 4 points from 6 is its return

Not pretty, not enjoyable, but hopefully ugly enough to end the season the 4th worse team in the league

In the 1st half I though our best chance of a goal was with it being lumped up to Archer to chase onto. As for the sending off, we were gaining a foothold at that point and the challenge was a consequence of that, our improved performance did not begin with the sending off.

The performances post Spurs were horrendous up until half time v Wolves. As bad in terms of non-competitiveness as any I can remember.

Since then, it's been a bit better but most importantly we've managed to stop the flow of goals conceded and have chunks of the 135 minutes where we've exerted an element of control over the game.

It's still likely going to end up as a pretty woeful season, 15-25 points? But compared to a few weeks ago, there's definitely a path being laid out to competing on a game by game basis. Hopefully, this break (especially with a couple getting back to fitness) will be the time where a real plan on how to effectively attack the opposition goal can be put in place.

Outrageous we only drew 1-1 and hit some long balls at times.

Feared the worst after 10 or 15 mins but we hung in there and could have nicked it. The sending off obviously changed things but 4 points from the last two games with the players available is more than commendable.

We've now got 4 more points at this stage than we did the last time we were here, and with a weaker more injury hit squad.

Everyone I saw at the game yesterday was happy at the end and the away end sang Heckys name.

One bloke behind apparently was going on about getting Hecky out but I'm not seeing much evidence of the away support wanting a change.

'At times'?!?!?
Did you watch the first 70 minutes?

We are all happy with a point at the end of the game, but it's mad to suggest it wasn't heavily down to good fortune
