Pulling and holding at corners?

Still photos are always gonna be misleading with this stuff, but yeah that pen was bollocks - if that is regularly given it fundamentally changes how football works as a game.

Not misleading in this one Ayling is holding on to Robbo for a good long while as that corner comes in. Robbo not being a cheating a cunt decides to stay on his feet.

Is it only a penalty if Sheffield United are pulling and holding? Just look at Ayling on JLT
Didn’t we get one against Sunderland for exactly the same.

Corners this season seem to mostly be a waste of time as the refs seem so keen to stop the action before kicks have been taken, take the time to chat to the culprits and then Normally give a freekick to the defender…

On Saturday in the first half comms on radio Sheff were making a joke of it “anywhere else on the pitch that’s a freekick” when we weren’t getting decisions in the box

Tonight, the ref gives a soft pen when both players are wrestling, but then also doesn’t take any action for Anels goal. Correctly

There’s too much wrestling on corners and keepers have been protected too much for years so it’s good to see

Said it myself in first half. It's a joke now. You see it at EVERY corner. And most of the time nothing is given!
As jt64 says, refs haven't the Bollocks to give it.
It should be easy enough to stop.
Anywhere else on the pitch ,if you bear hug, or grab someone's shirt, it's a foul!
So referees should be told if a defender does either in the box it's a penalty.
If an attacker does it it's a free kick to the defending team.
They'd soon stop doing it.

This happened not once but twice .

On both occasions Ayling had both arms wrapped around Robbo and when he tried to escape this , almost had his shirt torn from his back - result , nothing given .

For their penalty however , it was clearly a case of six of one and half a dozen of the other , the end result being Robbo dragged to the ground - result , penalty to them . Ridiculous and utterly inconsistent , something which fans of all clubs find intensely annoying and rightly so .

I was shouting for a penalty with Ayling on Robinson, it wasn't just short pulling, it was a full on embrace.

10 minutes later, penalty given for a less obvious foul. I thought their centre half was smart, it was six and 2 threes, but he made sure he went over first when the Ref was looking

In old money, shirt pulling was a penalty anyway, in the modern game it's developed into WWF. Probably why there's so few goals scored from corners now.

I think it was harsh last night as both were doing it but I do regularly look at our (and other teams) defending at corners and think they’re cutting it fine. Not sure if this happens in the prem with VAR but I’m reminded of the 2018 World Cup where they just gave penalties for anything like this all of the time.

I have no problem with referees giving penalties for holding and shirt pulling in the box. It’s something that should be stamped out.

That said, we had 10 corners last night and there was blatant wrestling of our players at every single one. We should have had 10 penalties if the ref is going to apply it fairly.

It's not the penalty or non-penalty giving that people are annoyed with. It's shit refs not applying the same rules consistently.

As soon as you grab a handfull of shirt it is a penalty or a free kick to the defender. If ref's applied the rules there would be no wrestling match at every corner kick within a few weeks. Weak refereeing has caused this problem. Same should have applied to Luke Ayling who was hugging Robinson at every corner kick you should not be able to get away with that. I thought last night's Ref was particularly poor and inconsistent.

Is anyone going to mention the swings their defender took at Robinson and Souza?
