I know it doesn't mean much in the cold light of day, but I didn't think these set of players could have done us as proud as they did yesterday. Fair play to them. Even now I feel proud as punch of that defensive display.

So why can we defend like that against them yet struggle against the likes of Shrewsbury, Colchester and Peterbrough? Edgar and Collins didn't give Rooney an inch, Hammond and Basham stopped their midfield getting through and our full backs didn't give Martial, Lingard or Mata an inch. Depay gave us some problems but it's no surprise.

Let's kick on now, make a few key signings and if we can be that solid every week no side in the league will beat us. Simply brilliant defensive display and very unlucky.

Mention for Long too. Didn't have to do too much thanks to the players in front of him but when called upon he looked sure, confident and assured. No more punching corners away or hesitating, very much our number 1 now. Only going to get better.
