Pros

An away win
Made changes still won
Peck got a hatrick
Brilliant for 30mins of first half
Our form since the international break

Cons
Got away with the changes
Made Preston who are bottom look good for large parts as with Derby
Subs once again no impact
Inability to put two halves together
Chong is just awful

Cons

A defence comprising of Choudhury, Tanganga and McGuinness is awful and shows how much we missed Kitching. 1st Preston goal had 4 (FOUR) unmarked men queuing up to tap in. Where were the midfield tracking back? Four against four when Chong lost the ball around halfway line. 2nd Preston goal same again two unmarked players waiting for a tap in. We looked all at sea most of the first half against Preston breakaways. How much did we miss Phillips? Anyone else in that position is only good as back up. Cannon anonymous yet again.

Pro's

Sydie Peck and Donovan. Despite the defensive errors in the main we dominated a truly awful Preston side who look to be doomed to relegation, but we didn't half make hard work of it. 3pts is 3pts you can't say we didn't deserve them.

We've more than enough to stop up and not get involved in a bottom three battle, but still very much an average side, with occasional stand out's. Peck did really well last night (othet clubs will be sniffing in January) but some of our defending was, again. pretty awful.
I said 10th - 16th before the season started, and I'll stand by that at the moment.

It was good last night, but also predictably poor at times. We are getting there though.

It's time to dump Choudhury I'm afraid. We need a reshuffle at the back and I'm not sure who to stick at right back.

When all the players are available I'd go something like this:

Cooper

Baptiste? Tanganga Kitching Burrows/McCallum

Seriki Arblaster Phillips Donovan

Peck

Bamford

I think he'd already clumsily given away one foul playing RM, then did similar another few times at RB. The idea that he shouldn't be played in his actual position is weird though.
I’m saying he shouldn’t normally play in his position, he should, it was to do with the dynamic of the game last night.

I felt that Femi on the RW was keeping them stretched. When he moved to RB they were able to progress their play.

How people can critisise Tanganga and Choudhury when Mcguinness was so poor is beyond me.

McGuiness is a league one player, especially in a back four. The weakest player we have in our squad in terms of raw ability. The things he lacks can't be taught. He's also a solid pro with a good attitude, so fair play to him for that

Biggest con tonight was their first goal. How can they have 4 players completely unmarked in our box.

Yup I was fuming about that. It was exactly what this season’s strategy was supposed to eliminate.

Turnover, lack of speed to get back. Lack of organisation. All very last season.

It happened a couple of times in the first half. And we remain susceptible to incredibly basic clipped balls over the top.

Think this thread, accurately describes United this season.

Those that are negative and slag off Wilder, although I don’t condone it, at least I can see where they are coming from.
However those who are positive and think Wilder is great, I can also see where they are coming from too.

I’m still really on the fence regards this team.
We look so mid table most of the time but you can see plenty of evidence that if we improve just a small amount we could finish in the play-offs.
However you also sense, if we drop standards just a small amount, lose confidence we could be looking over our shoulders at the relegation area.

The Preston performance was great and alarming at thr same time.
Find it bizarre how we can morph from being a promotion team and a relegation team, back and forth in the same match.
Still can’t work out if Wilder is doing a good job for us…..he makes weird decisions but sometimes they pay off.

Great result after a nightmare start. What do points make? Prizes! (Ask your grandma)

CONS
That first goal. Chong gives the ball away, falls down and they break away and score. Unchallenged run and cross, unmarked man in the middle and an absolutely awful goal to gift a team who had no confidence and the worst possible start.
Second goal was worse than the first. We dollied a header, stood like statues and watched them walk it in. A truly terrible goal to give away and it's game on again.
First 15 minutes we were second best and looking clueless. As a team you can't start games that poorly, God knows what they do in the homo erotic huddle, maybe talk about how nice Sydies hair is, or how happy they are in the shiny kit but starting that slow is unacceptable.
Last 15 minutes, similar to the first where we gave the ball away, panicked and gave them confidence to come at us.
Referee missed another penalty first half again, not quite as clear cut as the one at the weekend but the lad took Donovan out without touching the ball. Sorry, that's a penalty you fucking clown.

PROS
An away win, no matter who it's against I'll take it. We made it harder than we should have but a win's a win.
Cooper couldn't do anything with the goals but apart from that he was excellent. His calm demeanor and the way he owned the 6 yard box was a joy to watch.
Sydie effing Peck. I sing this lads praises a lot. I like his attitude, his cockiness and his ability to play football. The game was his tonight, he covered every blade of grass again, he got the foot in when he needed to and his goals were top class. Third was a tap in but the ground he covered to get on the end of the excellent cross from Donovan was very impressive.

As to the game it was messier than it should have been. We had very good spells where we could have scored more and at other times we couldn't control the football or do the basics. I don't care tonight, it's a deserved three points and I'll happily take that.

UTBFTP 👊👊👊
Pretty balanced review. It's great to see us seeing these sort of games but I can't get away from the fact that a team that's not bottom of the league gets their shit together and punishes us for our defensive mistakes.

As long as we keep a gap between those beneath us and see out the season that'll be fine.

The only one marking a player is Peck and even he's the wrong side of him. At least Burrows has the presence of mind to at least try to get on the line and block the shot.

Do we even try to work on shape during the week? What the fuck are Tanganga, Choudhary & Jairo doing?

Kitching was sorely missed. I think Tanganga (look where he is on that screenshot on the previous post - WTF ?) is very average and McGuiness js a bargain bottom replacement. We either need to try and bring Baptiste upto level or we need another Kitching type player in defence to give them competition.

The Doc was back on the bench yesterday, surely with his experience he's worth a try.

Tanganga was there because Choudhury had gone AWOL

Finally found someone talking sense.
