1971: At the Watford match
1982: Cant remember but I was at the Rochdale match the previous night
1984: Looking at the teletext at the Central deaf club, Surrey Place
1989: At the Wolves match
1990: At the Leicester match
2006: at S6 watching Wendy v Norwich match with my Norwich mate and our respective sons. After the game us four headed to Bramall Lane car park to celebrate
Even in 1989 I was pedantic. I refused to accept that we were promoted until after the Bristol City game because if we had lost 12-0 we may not have gone up. If I remember correctly Bassett had a goalkeeper as substitute that day, when such a thing was unheard of.

I was playing cricket at Herringthorpe that day. Yes, Benstead was one of our two subs that day

I would have been there but couldnt remember if that match confirmed our relegation

I'm not surprised you can't remember. They went down on a whimper. An outsider looking in might think wow 2-2 that was a bit of a battling performance but they were terrible. As was the atmosphere, to say it was a local derby and what was at stake. There was just an air of enevitability about what was going to happen.

I've seen a couple of pictures of the pitch invasion at the end, all from the John St by the looks of it. I suppose after the misery of '76-'81, it must have felt like United were on the way back.

Them years seamed so long and look now!

We'd looked to be just about down after 4 successive defeats at the beginning of April, but then United being United we gave ourselves a glimmer of hope by beating Bristol City at home followed by an improbable win at promotion chasing Reading over the Easter weekend. If memory serves if we won our last two and Palace lost their last two, we would have stayed up and I was thinking, "it couldn't happen could it?". That draw with Barnsley put paid to that and I think Palace got a draw as well that day so in the end the Barnsley result was irrelevant....

Doubt I will celebrate, will be too busy being defibrillated by a paramedic after collapsing from shock.

...and what a day out that was. Blades everywhere, many in fancy dress. All their lot had turned out to see us off so fights were breaking out all through the game. I distinctly remember Superman and 3 Santas wading into the melee in the stand on my left. Pitch invasions, punch ups and a massive free for all in the park outside afterwards.......oh.......and we went up too.

I got back bloody frozen, from standing up out of the sunroof with a flag pretty much all the way back up the M5.

Those were the days my friend....

I was at the Cardiff match. Was strange because all though we knew the job was done, we couldn't celebrate.

I was at home listening to the Leeds match on the radio on the Saturday and to celebrate, I went to the pub on Saturday night got shit faced and about 4 or 5 of us put Annies Song on the jukebox about 20 times.

I live in London so if we miraculously get to the play off final, and if we even more miraculously win that, I'll take as many Blades back to the bar I work at and rinse all the Champagne until we're hanging from the rafters belting out Blades songs. As it stands, we're 9th so I don't think that will happen, will it.

8th nar and that's without playing.

It's on I'll tell thee!

Ok maybe not. 9th. Need wins not draws

I'll just probably say "meh, we should have got back up sooner anyway".

....but then i've always been a miserable twat :D

:(I will come back and haunt a few pig fans that try and make my life a misery by the way I'm not that old and not optimistic

I also live in that London and I'm bookmarking this page just in case.

I couldn't make the Cardiff away game when we were last promoted on Good Friday 2006. When the game had finished, I decided to celebrate by going to Bramall Lane car park. There were dozens of other Blades celebrating and also there was a Muslim wedding celebration going on. The guests joined in the spirits, perhaps a little bemused to be met by loads of cheering and singing Blades fans. It helped make a fantastic day even better!
When we (finally) get promotion out of League One how will you celebrate? We have only been promoted once in 26.years so it is almost as rare as an appearance by Halley's Comet!

Just hoping to still be alive.

2006 - me and a few mates went down to the lane. I'm sure we got promoted there and then as Leeds were playing Reading. A few Reading fans turned up at the Lane on their journey back to join in the celebrations.

The Unsworth winner against Hull in injury time was the "we're going to do it" moment for me.

Did you all keep to your promises on how you would celebrate promotion?
