Reminds me very much of when we had BT and Sharp start the season up front in the 2007/08 season. Two good strikers but between them there's just not enough pace and movement.

Still think we've got a good league one striker in Clarke and he's fine for bringing on if the opposition are camped in ther own box.

But for now it's got to be Done for the first hour and then Clarke if we're banging balls into the box at the end of a game.

Sign a Ched Evans TYPE in January, doesn't have to be him but we need an ideal partner for Sharp. After that the first team picks itself and we just need a couple of squad signings.

I would get shut of Clarke ASAP and write him off as an acceptable error. He is not and never will be any use for us. Not his fault. Get shot ASAP.

Clarke is on a 3 yr deal isn't he?

In January I'd look to use Lavary out wide, ship out Clarke and buy Bogle and either Ched or Akinde to join up with Done and Sharp. That strike force would mean we'd not have to spend money upfront in the summer even if we go up.

Pay for EEL, perhaps bring back Brayford or sign a right back and let Brookes and Reed out on loan.

I'd say the above would cost around £2 million. A lot of money, but it's shit or bust for Mccabe. He needs to channel the spirit that spent £1.7 million on a right back a couple of years ago..

good shout with bogle, he's fast and can finish. not sold on akinde, he's slow but strong, finishing isnt the best as well. ched isnt coming to us we need to forget about him.

for me leon clarke is no better than higdon. he doesnt win many headers for a big lad and ive seen milk turn quicker. when i was a lad in the deane/agana days he would have been behind billy tightshirt in the pecking order.

as well as a striker we need a pacy winger, jcr with an end product.

Where does all this money and players with pace etc come from?

Remember we're in the 3rd Division and the budget was slashed in the summer.

Nobody can argue that Wilder hasn't done a superb job so far considering the budget slash.

But he knows we're not the finished article and that we need something to push us up firmly into them top two spots. Board need to see that too.

Unless they're happy to wait down here another year *shudder*.

I went to watch Barnet vs Hartlepool with a friend a couple of months ago. I watched out for Akinde and wasn't that impressed. Big, strong lad, but a poor first touch and slow over 5 yards. He might do OK in League 1 for someone but I don't think he's as good as Leon Clarke.

There should still be some cash left over from the Adams and DCL sales even on the reduced budget. Apart from O'Connel and Moore Chris barely spent anything on transfer fees and hasn't gone overboard on wages either. He has shown that you don't need to spend much in order to bring in quality, or at least players who will fit into the system and improve the team, Fleck, Duffy and Wright being prime examples.
I agree that pace and goalscorers are always harder to find on a budget but I have every confidence that targets are being lined up.

personally I've seen him win virtually every header but it goes to no one, or no one runs onto them.
I think we should be critical of the Clark signing because we've got him on a long contract with no plan on utilising him correctly. He seems to be a player we bought for the sake of it, to fill a gap (the big lad upfront)

Leon Clarke is not exactly the player you sign when trying to build a cohesive team.

He's a journeyman, a mercenary. He's not going to work hard on establishing a partnership with any other striker because he knows he won't be sticking around that long.

Going back a few years admittedly but he had a fantastic partnership with Callum Wilson.

I've seen a bit of him. He's done very well over the last 3 or 4 years but I'm unconvinced he'll do well any higher up that the fourth tier. I agree he's not that quick, although he can be difficult to stop when he gets going. He's also benefitting from the fact that there's no one else at Barnet who can put the ball in the net, so everything falls to him.

It's funny when he celebrates a goal with JCR. JCR looks like his puny little brother!

Brayford is still injured, plus has an ongoing sore knee as per Burton forum. They like him, think he will stay.

We need some ridiculously quick and skilful 5 ft 5 wide player, preferably black, who can just spaz his way through defenders.

What's JCR up to these days?

Come to think of it, has there ever been a time in the history of SUFC where we haven't longed for a fast black man?

Why are people suggesting we need a new striker when Sharp/Done was working? And to suggest someone from Barnet of all places, who on both the times I've seen them this year were a dumpster fire against weak League One opposition

Luton Shelton my have been fast, but he wasn't black. Paul Ifill may have been black, but he wasn't black.

Done to start, Clark to come on after 60 minutes most weeks. If anything we need a really tricky winger with pace when we can't break teams down.

Otherwise I don't think too much is wrong

Nobody wants another season, but without trawling through the forum, I thought a broad consensus when Wilder took over that this was for the long term, building the team and showing patience.

Shows how far we have come in a short space of time.

Don't get Done confused with a striker. He isn't one. He has something to offer, but not as a striker.

An accurate comparison to this would be the Charlton game. Many said they'd take a point before that game, but then the game kicked off, we played well and very much should have won it.
