He might have just pulled off the biggest masterstroke in bringing Wilder back.... can tell why he was so annoyed at Wilder wanting to walk last time (that eventually lead to his departure)

I don't think the new owners would have had Wilder as first choice when the time came.

Yes, was just thinking same, but maybe Wilder leaving was a good thing. He's wandered thoughtfully at other clubs, and gained wisdom.
He's returned a totally different guy, and totally transformed the team. A team I think is the best in my living memory.
Perhaps him doing the same thing if he'd stayed wouldn't have worked out so good.

Covid also impacted Wilder massively - more than most. 2020 was a weird time….i had a friend who was really outgoing, and ended up really depressed for 18 months. It took him 2-3 years to get back to normal. Not saying Wilder was depressed but he changed as a person in 2020….ended up ‘lost’ at Boro & then ‘Watford’….. but he now has that ‘edge’ back & clearly loves it back ‘home’.

The comeback wasn’t either, he looked a broken man again at the of last season and I don’t think many of us would’ve been too fussed had he walked away or been binned

Even in the summer you’d have been forgiven, given the situation if wilder had just taken us to June or July or August without a contract, if you didn’t want him to stay. He’d got us far enough. He’d taken the team and the squad to a handover, the new takeover apparently not wanting him to go forward or did they or didn’t they… the messages were so mixed and fucked up.

But he cracked on, said nothing, probably had his own issues and struggles with the situation, yet he’s taken us from -2 to Christmas on top after 22. Quite a feat. Quite a lot of professionalism in adversity.

We can debate many things about him but what he’s done between May and August this year should never be forgotten regardless of how this season pans out.

And without Bettis as well, this club would be in a complete mess. If wilder has steered the ship, Bettis has kept it floating and bailed out a lot of water, not bad for a snek

Not sure he is that different. Tactically we are but 5 3 2 was something we changed to after a poor start in league one and wasn't his first plan! Got labelled as a 5 3 2 man as it was so successful.

One of the great man managers and whatever special combination him and knill have stumbled on ( knill used to be the manager in the partnership) clearly works!

Yes, you're right, but was just thinking on a more personal level - he himself seems different - his attitude, his interviews how the team in general seems to have a different attitude - positive, a togetherness, just like the old days, but we seem smarter and more ruthless than before.
Don't know the guy, just think it did him good to leave us at that time.

Don't know why anyone holds last season against Wilder, he was given an impossible job! Team totally unequipped for PL and already in a habit of getting dicked every week.

If you ask me, this season is the reason he was brought in last year.

If this team achieves promotion then you might be able to convince me, I enjoyed watching a team with Basham, JOC, Fleck, Norwood, Didzy and Sharp much more but this team is extremely efficient.

Agree with this but i think we should also praise whoever is in charge of recruitment now.
It is clear that the purchases in the summer were properly researched. All pretty much successes so far and even the sale of players wasn't panicked.
