Clickbait leading to a picture of smug fat faced Piggy Pearson for no good reason whatsoever.

Perhaps the Prince isn't quite as poor a church mouse, as he'd like us to believe.....

As our Kev has already found out to his cost....... concentrate on one club at a time. Dabbling in others only proves detrimental to the ones you already have

Reports circulating that our Prince is about to take a Stake in Beerschot Wilrijk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KFCO_Beerschot_Wilrijk in the Belgium 2nd division. See how this plays out but a number of issues strike me if this does indeed come about.

- Fifa regs on non qualified players as Leicester, Man Utd, Chelsea and others have done with Belgium teams?
- Experience for youth fringe players?
- Link with McCabe Belgium business interests?

Hope it's not history repeating itself with McCabes foreign ventures, need to keep the eye firmly on the BDTBL ball. Good name for a football club mind.

The idea for a long time was that using European clubs was a way to get African players into the Premier/Football league, not sure but I think the rules had changed so it wasn't necessary anymore.

Chelsea use a dutch club to give their academy players first team football.

We did this before with a Belgian team (well McCabe did anyway) it didn't workout well from what I recall

I have a friend who is from Congo, formerly known as Zaire, a former Belgian colony.

He tells me that any decent footballers in Congo are farmed out to Belgian clubs.
Says it’s a bigger industry than people realise. Lukaku being the most famous Congo player.

Once they’ve been in Belgium for so long their gain rights and can be classed as Belgian Nationals and therefore European meaning they can easily work in other European countries. It gets past the normal work strict permit rules applicable to African nationals.

Well the interview led me to believe he had sold his paper company and he would have compensated/rewarded for taking the sports role.

so Lukaku isn’t Belgian?!
i’m gobsmacked

not

They sound like quite a step up from Red Star Woluwe.

They've been absolutely flying recently and have had multiple promotions. They're in the second division and have been getting attendances of 7,000 - and averaging 1,500 away from home. They've just finished top of the opening round of the division, above the likes of Cercle Brugge and Lierse.

They might even be worth scouting for players.

This must be a building block for the international scouting network the Prince mentioned last week. Seems a sensible step to me, assess players before a potential move to SUFC.

Can’t see why there’d be any link to McCabe interests, I don’t think he “lives” in Belgium any more.

He doesn't. Not for a while.

Wonder how much of HRH's "available funds" this will take up?

Yeh he’s born in Belgium with Congolese parents.
There’s loads of Congolese in Belgium. My friend says Congo will never have a good team because any talented kids in Congo are taken to Belgium, at worse they gain a European passport.

Leicester’s first offer for OH Leuven was £2M. They eventually paid “a multiple” of that but I can’t see it reported.

Might not cost a lot.

We are leaving the EU in 2019 so signing EU players wont be as easy as it is at present?

Brexit, our Prince is in front of thegame, whats he know?

My understanding is that leaving the EU will have a greater impact on UK players wanting to move to European clubs. Foreign players will only need to get by immigration rules (though what they might be is any bugger's guess!) which tends to mean international experience - but if UK players want to move to EU leagues where teams are only allowed a limited number of foreign players they'll now find themselves classed that way whereasl EU players currently don't add to the "foreigner count". Funnily enough these rules also count for some non-EU leagues such as Norway and Iceland - so I guess things are still to be worked out (like everything else)

There's nothing funny about it. Norway and Iceland (Along with Liechtenstein) are EEA states therefore subject to same Freedom of Movement rules as EU nations. Swiss players also are subject to the same rules (albeit through a bilateral treaty)

Especially not funny if you're a young pro looking for opportunities elsewhere on the continent :(

yeah i know mate i lived there for a while
awful place.. awful people

We traditionally have hundreds of them don’t we....
Dunno. From what I understand the numbers are higher than most people recognise but we tend to hear very little about them. It seems to have become more popular in recent years and this week's U17 England win has reopened the discussion in light of the fact that so few of the U17 squad are likely to get much Premiership experience.

The American geezer, director and the Prince's adviser said on Sheffield Live last week that we have to scout abroad because British/English players are expensive.

What makes them more expensive ?

Wilder seems comfortable around British players. Not sure about some of these guys from overseas who appear to have too much attitude with all their feigning injuries and diving.
