I mean, Norwich aren't exactly on some sort of top-of-table run, are they? They aren't packed with quality players. they've stolen two of our former team and on the face of it, at the final whistle today ... or even after their third goal in fact ... couldn't actually believe how crap we are.

Usual poor start thanks' to some shocking edge of box defending, second one was just a catastrophe waiting to happen and the third one was them punching us and punching us again, and again until we slumped on our knees. They had most of the first half and quite a bit of the second and we, characteristically, failed to come back at them with anything significant. Bamford's goal was well taken but as he lined up to shoot, I would imagine no one would be surprised if it ended up in the empty BLUT.

Our defence is something else, isn't it? The central two, no matter who it is, just crumble at the first whiff of a cross or a ball in the box. Let's not forget Phil Jagielka, Shaun Murphy, Eddie Colquhoun and Chris Morgan played in that position as a comparison and although teams scored against them, they were well-earned goals. Right now its more a crisis of confidence and also rank footballing incompetence in equal measures. The second, as an example, was just pass-pass-pass-ball through with our number five as the man meant to be on his shoulder but watch the goal. He actually opens up the distance between himself and the man-put-through and runs parallel with him ... then gives up. And Cooper has less than 50% chance. The first goal, Riedewald, who plays like he is towing a caravan these days, and one of three other defenders who could put in a challenge didn't put in a challenge leaving him enough time to plant the shot top corner. The third was no less Billy Smart's backline, with just McCallum left to try in vain to stop the goal. Norwich just couldn't believe how lucky they were.

Again, however Norwich lined up against ten men. Campbell and his utterly useless replacement were just empty shirts flapping in the late summer breeze (okay, Campbell got an assist, but that was it, and I could have laid that ball across for Bamford) leaving Poor Old Pat to do the spadework. Peck baffles me as to how he is still an option ... until I look at the alternatives. Philips again came on and a added some spine to a flaccid midfield (but did practically nothing), clearly Rothwell is on the shit-list and Arblaster will again surf on the 'give him time, he's recovering from injury' wave until it stacks him head first into the sand. We need to talk about Oliver Arblaster ...

RND is, I am afraid, finished as a defender for us. That flash in the pan sixty years ago we saw isn't there any more and he is basically a 'senior player' now, akin to a bull you've been saving out of sentimentality when the pure businessman would have zoned out the cow-love and took it out the back and shot it. McCallum had a steady game getting skinned and BBD bless him is so desperate to hang onto footballing credibility he has accepted a gig at Bramall Lane playing out of position with a right old team of fucking losers rather than another season eking out his contract at the Dell or whatever it's called, or playing for Forest Green or MK Dons, appearing on Sky Sports Football as a scorer and viewers thinking, 'shit, is that where he is these days?'

Donovan is simply Ndaiye, occupying himself with a team way below his ability, against oppositions way below his ability and like Ndaiye, will be blessing the day he has to leave Bramall Lane and get back playing with real footballers who like winning.

I think we brought other subs on but past the third goal, I could not care much more. Today was an indication that Sheffield United are in deep, deep trouble. The Bolton game was just thinly spread Polyfilla over some significant cracks, all of them caused by people who possibly won't park their arses in the directors box again this season, if they know what's good for them. If Wilder turns it round and gets this lot to start winning then I will take it back, but we are bottom six fodder like this with Wilder gone by Christmas, if not on completion of another empty, fruitless transfer window in January.
