Would they be warned off by the management, coaching staff, friends, agents, etc or simply due to the fact they are sensible intelligent beings who know where it is not a good idea to go?

Cannot see some of the comments on here, and elsewhere, being good for them personally, morale wise or helping their confidence in a positive way.

Quite a few are getting it in the neck, obviously, some more than others.

Obviously, it is good to give vent - now and again.

But I was musing - could it come back to bite some of us if, say, Lundstram thought, again whilst musing to himself, perhaps I might not get the marvellous, incredibly long-term, lucrative move away I am hoping for so why don't I say, "Sod it. The contract worth thousands and thousands a week is still on the table. Might as well sign it. What have I got to lose?"

I wouldn’t expect the contract to be anywhere near as lucrative as the one offered to him initially.

I think football players (actually anyone in the public eye) over the past 10 or so years has had to adapt to the idea that they can, within minutes, find any sort of criticism about them, if I'm being honest, you should be prepared for it now days and just suck it up and deal with it.

The main issue is the way people behave online, I'm absolutely certain the vast majority of celebs and players can deal with people criticising them constantly and if you ask me that's fair game, but grown adults sending personal messages with racial and personal attacks is beyond pathetic.

From my sofa I can sit here easily and say "yeah but those people are just wankers who do it from behind a screen, ignore it" but it really isn't that easy.

I'd also be more than happy to say what I have done to his face if circumstances dictated. Totally immoral and disgusting. By all means be disgusted with a player, have a pop at them about their lack of standards on the pitch or levels of application being shown, but there really is no need to lower yourself to that form of abuse. I agree Lundstram has done nothing wrong with rejecting the contract offered. That's fair doos and I don't think most Blades have an issue with that at all. In fact I'm glad he's rejected it as I've never really rated him that much tbh and I think him rejecting it has saved us from spending a big lump of cash on him, and him being in our side for another 3 years slowing down our attacks and giving the ball away constantly. So in that respect he's done us a big favour.

What I think most cannot stand however is his total downing of tools and the walking pace football he is putting in week after week which is as clear as day a lack of effort on his part. It's just shows more and more each game he plays. Lack of a ability I can stomach. Lack of effort I cannot. For that he should be paid off and drummed out of the club ASAP.

It's the ones who will still be here where the personal abuse is more of an issue, McBurnie, Stevens and Norwood get absolute pelters, sometimes deserved for their performances, but it often starts before they even do anything wrong in a particular game. The management sticking by them really hasn't done them any favours.

Criticism is fine if justified but the really personal shit is rarely heard inside the stadium because they'd doubtless be confronted.
