I have a theory about this.

I wonder if it's because rugby is a higher scoring game, so tensions never run as high as in football. Same with cricket, basketball, baseball, American football.....

They fight like men possessed at basketball & ice hockey in some countries. Admittedly they are linked to football clubs, but still.....
