Preston Statement

We had fans all round the ground as evidenced at the end and not one of them misbehaved so on this occasion the local press can fuck off.

The Preston fans have praised us and so did the police.

It’s at that time of the season where emotions really are running high for the club you’ve loved all your life so there is no way on earth that you can begrudge someone celebrating a goal in the corporate boxes, especially when they’ve paid good money. Some football fans and people in general have become a joke when it comes to things like this, I blame all the media in general.

If you go in the home hospitality area as an away fan, you’re specifically asked to not celebrate or sing for your team. To not respect that request is poor form. It’s not like you’ve a box to yourself.

I was in with plenty of Blades in the stand opposite, and no one acted like they were on the kop at BDTBL. It’s not a divine right to get pissed and act in the way you were asked not to in the condition of sale.

Police didn’t have a problem and on Preston forum some said we didn’t behave and others said there was no issues at all but you’ve already made your mind up even though you was nowhere near which I find strange

Preston themselves said no laws broken (that was Saturday night )it seems like one or two of there prawn cocktail clients wernt impressed with the enthusiasm our fans in the corporate area supported the blades,tough shit!! Preston were more than happy to take the money.Preston management trying to woo there corporate clients you know the ones who don't really support Preston in the way football fans do and I don't include the average Preston fan in that who I'm sure give them there vocal support
 
I've taken my dad into the Tony Currie suite a few times when I'm in Sheffield, and I also took him in the equivalent* space at the derby at Hillsborough. I was never asked by SUFC, but when booking at the Wendies they did ask if we were home or away (one of each - blended family) and on the tables they had signs asking you to bear in mind where you were but saying if you wanted to watch the match with "likeminded" fans they would take you down to the away section and let you back in to the suite afterwards. Decent, I thought. Also, the table numbers were little mini kit things you can hang in the car afterwards with your name on them. We had table 1, so dad was chuffed with that.

*Food was better at Hillsborough, but the room was rubbish and with no view of the pitch because it backs onto the private boxes. Also the seats were just normal grandstand seats and we were really in the thick of them. We got called "fucking part-timers" by the people who thought they had a right to our seats even though I'd paid for them. Also, way too much blue for my liking.
 
It's disrespectful to celebrate when in the home end. I've sat on my hand in several home ends and managed to keep quiet, if you can't you shouldn't go.

If you've paid for corporate seats and the home team knows you support the away team which Preston did afaik, then as long as you don't glass someone then I don't see a problem with celebrating respectfully. If some Millwall fans want to buy a box on John Street and celebrate something fair enough. It's a football match not London's gangland, have a bit of banter and hopefully they'll leave with a face like a smacked arse when your team does the business.

If you just buy a standard seat in the home end, obviously you should shut up.

Based on the picture in this thread, the corporate seats at PNE are amongst the home fans.

Part of what I love about football is animosity; once I'm in the ground and the fans are parted, if they score, I genuinely feel hatred towards them. Back on the train after, it's a friendly chat.

Having away fans in the home end ruins that for me, I have to break my hate-filled immersion and remind myself I don't want somebody to die.

I'll concede that with the Preston layout it's not ideal.

Preston's fault though isn't it, the statement is pathetic. If you're willing to sell tickets to away fans and no-one is at risk, you should expect (polite) away fans not mannequins.

It’s the principle of “their house, their rules”. PNE, like every club I’ve visited, ask away supporters to respect the fact they’re in the home end by not supporting their team vocally or by celebrating goals. In the part of the Deepdale I was in, this was a polite request by the MC before the game, and the Blades did exactly that.

Looking at the picture, and by your own description, these fans didn’t respect that request. I’m not saying you were involved in trouble, but I do think fans should act as they’re requested to do when in the opposition section.

It’s a sad state of affairs but if you noisily support the away team in the home end, trouble will eventually come to you whether you want it or not. I’ve seen this happen at BDTBL hospitality. So respecting your hosts’ wishes is a small ask.

A mate of mine is a fireman at East Midlands airport, he’s been in the job since he was 20 (now 14 years) and has never had a live fire. He gets paid to sleep and go to the gym. Life of Riley.

They nearly once had a fire to put out at Chippy Minton's but it was a false alarm.
 
What a load of bollocks this is if it were cricket or rugby there would be no problem but because it is football some snowflake has to complain. I hope they have screwed the seats down in the boxes for tonight's game ;) otherwise they might have summat to moan about.

I regularly go to Rugby internationals. All the fans mix and booze is permitted in the ground. Never seen any trouble.

Went to the League Cup semi at WHL a couple years back. Sat in the Spurs end with the guy behind me had a tattoo across his throat "Spurs Forever". I kept my gob shut but after 20 minutes he tapped me and asked who the kiddy in blue boots was - Stefan Scougal. No bother at all but then again McEv gave them the fucking game
 
Do the same respect rules apply if Preston score I wonder, lots of polite applause from the home fans.

My brother in law is the same. I used to work as a consultant for London Fire Brigade. They do have to put out fires, see burnt corpses, sometimes have to cut burnt corpses out of crashed vehicles...

Sadly clubs apply these home end rules because too many people can’t behave.

It’s good there was no real trouble in response to boisterous Blades on Saturday but I still think folk should respect the conditions of entry because they’re there for a reason. It often does kick off when beer meets football meets opposition fans.
 
I regularly get away fans behind us - I sit in front of the Directors Box and sponsors come from all over.

We're used to fans supporting their team with the odd shout and celebrating visibly when they score. It wouldn't garner comment.

I did have to text someone at the club this season because the fans behind us were directing their comments at the Blades fans around us (including telling one to "sit down, dickhead") clearly believing their sponsors tickets and the thin wooden wall made them invincible. I think they were perhaps reminded of their surroundings at half time as they barely raised a peep afterwards.

I have, in years gone past, seen one Blade attempt to drag a particularly obnoxious specimen (Forest fan) over the hoardings to get him a beating. I believe the Forest fan was ejected.

I'm not sure any visiting fans would get away with arms spread chanting in our Directors Box.
 
Let's be honest, if it was the other way round there would be uproar. I think that says it all.

I have a theory about this.

I wonder if it's because rugby is a higher scoring game, so tensions never run as high as in football. Same with cricket, basketball, baseball, American football.....
