I'd wear 'em all, that ground is freezing in May.

Poor penalty to give away. That wouldn't have happened last year with Ramsdale in goal Perryman could have been quicker

Well I managed to convince some mates to come & watch the kids play Preston so that I could cadge a lift with the promise of a Blades win. I'm sat in the back of the car now wishing I'd not bothered. Preston were not a good side, both Utd were worse

Perryman - Didn't come for Charllesworth's header back quick enough then fouled for their only goal
Charlesworth - Struggled for the first 10 minutes against a left winger that looked a foot taller than him, but coped after that
Cantrill - Was found lacking for pace against their right winger & his decision making was poor - was replaced by Charlesworth at left back in 2nd half -Cummings went to right back
Cummings - Matched left winger for height - missed a sitter to draw level late on
Semple - Solid as ever, although Preston didn't come through the middle much
Graham - Some decision making was poor, but wasn't found out
Slater - Played with his heart on his sleeve, but was obviously frustrated - some of his tackles were tasty to say the least
Gilmour - Solid performance but not outstanding
Mallon - Frustrating! Tried to take on the world instead of moving the ball to players in space
Smith - Was not strong enough - never looked like scoring
Burton - Was too easy to mark out of the game, not strong enough - never looked like scoring
Hallam - Spent more time on his back than on his feet instead of making & riding tackles - got the ball in the back of the net, but was off side

Utd were desperate for a striker tonight to step up to the mark. We must have had at least half a dozen chances in each half that if we'd had a strike force or players willing to follow in we'd have scored

Crikey reading that. I thought we had been out played and lost six nil
It's a young squad with some good prospects. Tough one to lose

Your round up of the game is in some part very good.
I thought Semple and Graham were excellent. The reason Preston didn't come through the middle was to by pass these two.
What did happen was that all the play started with Semple.
I have got to agree that the forward line was as poor as I have seen for a couple of years.
Burton and Hallam were so light weight it was ridiculous. Both on their backsides more than on their feet.

That said, United had 5 clear chances to comfortably win the game. If it had finished 3 1 there would have been no complaints.

Reading your post you would have thought they had lost 5 0.
With missed chances united were far far better than Preston.

In the cold light of day you're right, but last night was just so frustrating. I have to pledge allegiance to the defenders union as a former right back (of no repute whatsoever), but I feel that Charlesworth, Cummings & Semple always pull their weight - the latter two chipping in with goals at set pieces, which hides the poor attack force when all you see are the results
I know that the problem with any Social Media is that we all think our points are the most valid and we can tend to vent our spleen when we're wound up. But last night I felt that I cared more about the shirt the strikers were wearing than they were

I have to admit to being wound up when I wrote that last night
You're right we have some good young players in the squad. I just wish one of them was a striker

There's little doubt that the outstanding player on the night was the Preston Keeper, who made some excellent stops, but at least a couple of those he shouldn't even have been given an opportunity to make a save.

Credit to Preston, they are in the Youth Alliance (Step below United), looking at their record in their league this season (W1, D7, L3). they obviously don't carry much threat up front but equally aren't that easy to break down. They had a game plan and stuck to it. Apart from the penalty, they only had one other chance, whereas we had several.

If at any time we had scored last night, ....I think Preston would have folded, but as it already been pointed out we haven't got a clinical goalscorer.

Frustrating as it was for us watching, the lads will be hurting far more I suspect.
