Sorry this is slightly late, just wanted to come on here and give a match review of how the game went on. First half was largely a non starter, best chance was when our keeper decided that he wanted to give Clarke a chance to add to his goal tally ( and he should have). But if anything you’s were the better team. Second half and Alex Neil had clearly bollocked the players and we could have gone 2 or 3 up very quickly. We did eventually score but couldn’t add another and for the last 15-20 you were the better side. Wilder brought Donaldson on and although he contributed little he forced us to be more defensive. Overall I think we were the better side and we’re good value for the three points.

Regarding your current injury rut, eventually you will be fine. I’m not sure if any of you are aware but we went through the injury crisis of all injury crisis’ earlier on in the season. We lost 11 players to injury including 7 defenders. We lost four of our five fixtures ( similar to yourselves)Two of our best players ( Cunningham and Maguire) are still out now. However when players returned to fitness we picked up and have won 4/5 now. When your players come back to full fitness, your results will inevitably pick up. Your current problem is that your second string midfield is nowhere near championship level, and you are trying to adjust the entire team to accommodate it. A fully fit Sheffield United team would not be on the run you are on. However, Wilder is an excellent manager. His attacking substitutions will pay off big style, our manager is similarly attacking opposed to Grayson and we have won many more points because of it. People need to realise that draws are almost useless in this league and Wilder’s constant attacking will keep you up the league and is what got you there in the first place. You only have to look down the road at your deluded neighbours to see how far defensive Football gets you in this league. You will finish somewhere between 5th and 10th which will be a tremendous achievement and above your rivals ( who won’t make the top half) when you consider the money they have spent that is a great achievement from you’s. Hopefully we can make the playoffs, as can you and we can get revenge for the last time we met.

Morning mate, thanks for the comments. I didn't go, but listened on the radio and the general consensus seems to be you deserved the win. Hopefully we will strengthen in Jan and then get back to destroying everyone :)

Good luck for the season.

Your owners have spent a little bit of money, and I think they are ambitious enough. What they have with your squad and Wilder is dream opportunity to get promoted having spent much lower than is usually required to do so at this level. I am sure they will invest in some respects, but it might be beneficial for you’s to sell brooks and get a decent fee for him. Also to use the loan market and get a young, hungry central midfielder from one of the bigger teams who would love to loan him out to a team challenging with large support to prepare him for them.

Preston away is a real test for a chamionship newcomer
Think at full strength we'd have took the points but with our entire midfield plus our only other creative attacker we were always going to struggle

Still didn't think we played anywhere near well enough though

Perhaps, but we play better as the underdogs really, given your form and injury crisis we were expectant as fans. We sometimes lack quality out wide to create chances but Robinson was excellent. We had beaten Sheff Wednesday, Cardiff ( this season and last) Villa and Huddersfield ( last season) beat Bristol City 5-0 , reading ( this season and last) but drew with Barnsley, Bolton, Milwall. When we expect to win we struggle to breakdown teams, and that was the case on Saturday, with your best players either you would have been much better or we would have risen to the occasion as we do so often against big teams. On the injury front, we are still missing key players including Sean Maguire who is key in breaking down teams for us.

So we were the better team for 70mins but you deserved the 3 points?

Sorry but it was two awful teams on show Saturday and you scored due to poor marking after a substitution.

With the first half, you were slightly better but you didn’t create any chances really, both teams were poor. From 45-65 we bossed the game and could have scored several times. In the last 15 minutes you kept possession in our half but again failed to create. We deserved to win on the premise that we created more chances, albeit in a shortish period of time.

Maybe we should go on other teams forums and tell their fans how we were the better side after beating then... or am i just being bitter?

Stating you were the better side and saying "preston fan in peace" dont seem to go together in my mind... or again am i just being bitter.

Odd post.

Wasn’t intending to gloat, I was just explaining myself to a fan. Being that I have respect for the way Sheffield United have played this season, I wanted to see what fans thought of the game.

Fair enough, we were crap, far from our usual high standard of this season.

This is utter crap. We were completely outplayed second half.

How is it?

The OP stated we were the better team for 70 mins... Not me. I thought we were awful throughout.

Despite that, they never really looked like scoring (neither did we), and they scored straight after a substitution where we were defending.

You never make a sub when defending. It's asking for trouble as you lose shape and the players switch off... Which happened on Saturday.

It had 0-0 written all over that game.

I watched the game and the PNE fan's view is closer to what I saw than Deadbat's. OK we were poor in the second half, but I didn't think we were too bad in the first and may have shaded it. We played some nice short passing sequences at times but couldn't get any decent service to our strikers. I thought we were bad but not woeful overall (agree Carruthers and Sharp were poor) but the game could have easily been a draw. Duff and Brooks will be back Saturday, then Fleck soon afterwards, plus Ched as an option soon and JTW signings. I'm sure we'll start picking up results soon.

We were woeful second half. PNE were much better. They were always going to score. They should have scored more. Tell me, how many goals come from a mistake from the opposition? 90, 95%. Saying that they only scored because we made an error is naive at best. That's why everyone scores.

Just skimmed it but this is utter bollox
we could have gone 2 or 3 up very quickly.
your lads couldn't score in a brothel, Moore made one decent save and the stand behind the goal stopped us losing the ball.
And all this 'in peace', it's just fans of other clubs coming to say how they beat us/should've beat us and little Sheffield United are alright.
How about 'fuck off'? If we hadn't had 2 lads go down sick just before the match we'd have battered you, I mean we were close to taking the lead in the first 20 minutes. Looking forward to the return.

I wasn't at the match on Saturday, but your overall assessment of where we are is pretty sensible, and reassuring. It is good to read outsiders' views - social media has encouraged hype and over-reaction. We have a problem, but we are in footballing heaven compared with where we were 15 months ago. A little perspective is very welcome. Good luck with the rest of your season, except for your upcoming defeat at the Lane.:)

Parts of it do read a bit patronising and gloat-y at first but I think it's pretty clear he's not on the stir. His assessment of the game is pretty fair, if anything slightly in favour of us. And he's ripping into the filth, which is a positive sign.

This post sounds like sour grapes to me ;)

Any broken leg victims in your injury list.

Funnily enough we have had similar injuries, Tom Clarke has just come back from a torn achillies having been out since March and Cunningham has a meniscus tear- out since August won’t be back until later Jan early Feb.

After 20 minuted it was clear it was going to be a 0-0 or 1-0 game. Preston definitely deserved to win but they didn’t look that great themselves. Whether they are better than that usually I can’t say but on the evidence of that game alone neither side would make any other team in the division shake with fear

Cheers for the info.:)

Could i ask you for an opinion on our number 44 and our number 7.

44 didn’t look good enough to play at this level at all, almost looked unfit? 7 looked okay? Was it Lundstram- he was at Blackpool earlier but only briefly. He wasn’t any worse than some of the others and I thought he looked good against Bristol City when I watched that.
