What does anything on a football forum have to do with Wilder calling supporters negative every time he's asked a question about a poor performance?

He's far too bothered by what people think of him
He's never really known it over his career has he, only until more recent years here (Prem relegation, last season and now). He's uses to being at the top end of his respective divisions and he hasn't learnt to deal with it.

You are not going to achieve harmony whilst a section of the fanbase act like entitled children who think we should have bought world stars in the summer and be trouncing every team in the league and the other, more pragmatic section accept the situation we find ourselves in. Unfortunately the former section have the floor with regard to the forum. Wilder is not splitting the fanbase. It's the hole we find ourselves in and his approach to dealing with it. How different fans perceive that approach is the 'split' or divergence of opinion.
We are a mid-championship club. Always have been, with a few variations up and down over the years.. Accept it, and stop the constant moaning and to use your phrase, whining, when we loose a game. To highlight the point, much of the matchday thread is, unless United score, pathetic.
Have a million likes.

What happened to out run, out fight, out play. Do we still do that? What happened to risk and reward football and front foot football? Why don't we do those things anymore?
Don't think any of the FH Team team would be willing to risk their life asking that

Calling fans “entitled” because they criticise the club is a lazy way to shut down valid concerns.

Most supporters understand the finances. They aren't demanding world class signings or expecting us to dominate every week. Just be competitive and to try to attack the opposition. They want to know if the club is being run properly, whether there is a clear (or any) plan, and whether the manager is getting the best out of the players he has.

Accepting the club’s limits doesn't mean accepting every decision. Financial constraints explain some choices, but they do not make them immune from criticism. And they do not excuse a manager’s approach if it leads to poor football or needless division among supporters.

Supporters do not owe the club, the manager or each other forced optimism.

Disagreeing with criticism is fine. Calling people entitled, pathetic or childish is not a rebuttal. It is just dismissing their concerns instead of engaging with them.

Does he complain about fans ?
I personally think he takes a balanced view of the fan base. He knows it well enough. He can’t resist having a dig back at those that seek to criticise him and his team, but he also balances this out with clear and strong appreciation of the majority of the fan base at matches. He’s had his ups and downs with us, but it’s clear to me that he still has a strong bond with much of the fan base, and realises and appreciates our importance to the club.

I'm interested in injury updates and likelihood of contract renewals for the young players on our books. Whether we now have the room in thebudget to do it.

I'm also interested in whether there's room to add young permanents in the next two windows.

What exactly was done in the break fitness wise. How successful/valuable he thought it was. Also, any plans for the next break.

A question on whether he sees us going four or three at the back longer term would be interesting, if he'd answer, but it's probably one he'd swerve as there's no real value in revealing the answer publicly.

Punter.

But that's the problem having a dig at the 'punters' after a win (note I didn't say good performance because they're very few and far between) when he sticks his chest out and makes it appear we've suddenly become an unbeatable force is a shithouse trick. I'm all for being upbeat and highlighting the good bits after a victory but what about when we lose? What about nights like Morecambe? What about saying Fuck me that was shite, our players aren't that bothered, they aren't that good and they aren't that well coached?

He gets spiteful and pissy towards fans who call him out, fans who pay money into the club while he takes it out. Fans who can do fuck all regards signings, player selection and how we set up but those fans still support the club so cut them some slack, up your own game and then maybe the punters and the PlayStation Managers will get it and get you a bit more.

Hahaha, after saying that I'm fine with Wilder, I just wish he was a bit more humble on occasion because we're all pissed off after seeing some of the shit that gets dished up and then we're told we don't know what we're looking at.

I'd ask it a different way. I'd say "Do you think football supporters in general are becoming more impatient and unforgiving? And does this negativity effect the players?"

I don't think this attitude is singular to Wilder. There's a growing tendency in society to demand entertainment and immediate gratification in the real world as well as on our phones. Not just at the Lane, it's happening at other clubs too.

As an older Blade, I've seen numerous times when our best players have been sold to fund running costs. All the way back to TC to Leeds. A mediocre season generally results or sometimes relegation. It's part and parcel of being a Blade.

This time seems different though. The criticism of the players and especially the manager have been through the roof - when we've not even been that bad.

I've seen plenty of Blades teams (and managers) that were poorer than this but they didn't get half the abuse. We are two points outside play-offs and barring a disaster aren't going down. Given the circumstances ie player sales and lack of funds I don't think we have too much to complain about really.

I'd be interested to hear if Wilder has anything to say about the attitudes of supporters today. Whether he thinks they have become less forgiving, and if he thinks the demand for constant success is growing.
Don't ask him a question then , just clap him "live on air"

1. What is the optimum amount of culture, on the culture bell curve?

2. And, linked to this, can a club carry TOO MUCH culture, to the point that it becomes a burden?

3. And by extension, if a club tries to sign one of your best culture carriers, have you ever called the club or the player's agent a culture vulture? If not, could we make this a thing please?

Sorry, but I think that’s a big over-reaction, saying more (both in phraseology and content) about your need to spill bile over Wilder on this point than it does about his attitude to our fan base.
I’ve watched pretty much every post match presser that he’s done for us, and I have never, ever, seen or heard him say or do anything that “makes it appear that we’ve suddenly become an unbeatable force”. In fact he’s quite the opposite in his pre-match pressers, receiving frequent criticism on this forum for ‘bigging up’ the opposition - hardly the behaviour of a manager who views his team as invincible.
You talk about “fans who pay money into the club while he takes it out”. Do you expect him to be unique among professional football managers in working for nothing? As fans, we pay our money through choice, in the full and certain knowledge that we will be served up dross as well as the good stuff, just like every other football fan in the country and beyond. Through gaining promotion from League 1 to the Premier League, and keeping us there for a season, he put massively more money into the club than he ever has or will take out throughout his entire career with us. Yes, we can rightly question and debate whether that money was spent wisely, but it was put into the club, and not taken out by Wilder.
You say that he gets “spiteful and pissy towards fans who call him out”. It seems to me that it’s a small proportion of our fan base that better fit that description, who are more than happy to dish out all shades of shit to Wilder, some justified and some not, but who quickly turn into pearl clutchers and foam in faux outrage when being challenged back, and being called such horrible things as “punters”.
I do think that Wilder isn’t particularly coherent in pressers, particularly post match when he is still pumping adrenaline from the game. He doesn’t give a particularly well balanced analysis and narrative of events when he is in a highly emotional state post match. I suspect that many of us are just the same in the pub after the game. It would be good if he could be a bit more controlled, given that he is the manager, but he’s a man that wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to Sheffield Utd, and I personally have no problem with that. At the end of the day, he’s a passionate fan that manages his football club. They are few and far between, and much more likely to show some edge in the heat of the moment than a journeyman with only a professional interest in the club.

Foooookin' ell - that would illicit the Wilder death stare! 🤣
One of the press asked a similar question quite recently and CW did not like it one bit!
Like all managers he likes xG when it shows we should have more points base din our performances but not when it shows the opposite!

This is just a longer version of the same argument: Wilder is a passionate fan who means well, so his behaviour should be understood in context, while fans who criticise him are spiteful, entitled or dishing out shit.

You say yourself that he can be incoherent, unbalanced and overly emotional in press conferences, and that it would be good if he showed more control. So we agree that his behaviour isn't always appropriate. Where we differ is that you seem to think his passion somehow makes it more acceptable, while the passion of supporters who pay to watch the team is evidence of their character flaws.

The point about him putting money into the club through promotion is irrelevant to whether his current decisions and behaviour deserve criticism. Nobody is disputing what he achieved. Previous success isn't a lifetime exemption from scrutiny, and being a lifelong supporter doesn't make someone a better manager or mean their decisions are beyond question.

Nor is the fact that fans pay voluntarily an argument against criticising what they're watching. Of course managers get paid. That's not the point. Supporters are entitled to judge the performance of someone employed to manage their football club, just as they are entitled to judge the club's wider decision making.

He has a position of authority, represents the club publicly and is paid handsomely to do a job. That doesn't mean he can't show emotion, but it does mean there's a reasonable expectation that he handles criticism professionally. The same standard doesn't apply equally to a manager and someone posting on a football forum.

You keep framing this as a question of whether Wilder is a passionate Blade or whether certain fans are being unfair to him. It isn't. He can be a passionate supporter, have achieved a great deal for the club, and still be wrong in his decisions or his treatment of the supporters who have opinions that offer criticism.

That's the problem with this argument. Every criticism of Wilder gets reframed as bile, spite or entitlement, while every shortcoming on his part gets explained away as passion, adrenaline or wearing his heart on his sleeve.
