Press conference - cancelled

Today has been a PR nightmare for united irrespective of Wilder leaving.

Weve got Pep and Carlo wishing wilder the best in the future (rightly so) Henderson wishing him the best all over twitter. Sky sports news and Talksport breaking the news this morning. Yet the only comms from united is a cancelled press conference.

I think the club could have handled today a load better than keeping fans in the dark to make up their own rumours and hear things from second hand sources

What do you want them to say exactly if nothing has been agreed?

This but it’s pretty much par for the course for us this year. Quite a bit ha sheen announced via radio interviews with talk sport rather than through official club channels.

Bert's been known to be right before, hope he is this time.
If he had been sacked the club would have announced it hours ago.
If he has indicated he wants to resign then the club could simply refuse and point out he has a contract.
It will not finish well whether he stays or goes.
Next we will be deducted 14 points for failing to have a press conference within 48 hours of kick off !!

I’ll add on to that the wilder has also been leaking things through local media sources rather than through club interviews it’s all turned into a messy PR war with both sides using their media contacts and it isn’t how to run a club.

Bert makes me laugh ,I hope he's got this one right mind

Wilder resigns, Prince won't accept it.

Bert's theory.
I agree ands if he has resigned, he’s been offered another job.

It’ll still be the Prince’s fault when all the dust settles whatever’s actually happened? 🙄

What ever has gone off Today, either Wilder say's he's walking or Prince sacked him, Not many clubs hold a press conference to say a manager has been sacked or Resigned, usually clubs just release a statement.
Then have a press conference when New Man comes in. Doesn't make much sense

Entire thing is a shitshow

The press conference in question was the premier league one for Leicester match. The club’s manager or coach/s are obliged to hold a pre match press conference.
The Premier league wont be happy but fuck em. Managers leaving clubs by sacking or mutual consent is usually done by way of an official club statement. Absolutely nothing out of the club to suggest he has left yet.

But did the club specifically call a press conference, or was it just that the standard pre-match conference was delayed and then cancelled?

We've gone from being priceless and the pride of yorkshire Last season.

To being the fucking joke they've always called us.. Pig cunts got thier birthdays and xmas all rolled into one today..

Wilder should have gone head to head with the Prince and layed it all out for all, fuck being nice.

Prince wants a fire sale, wilder wants to build. Hope wilder sticks true to form and says it how it is..

we'd have shown abdulla who we really back up... And it isn't fucking him.

If he goes to celtic this is the worst scenario..... Lost the best since basset and set him up against the Gers..

Wank day..

People saying Prince wants a fire sale, will not invest etc.
no one knows

in reality CW did v well for previous four year this season has been a disaster.
Facts
Bad luck with injuries
Bad luck with fixture scheduling

went into season with no replacement for JOC
Went into season with minimal Midfield players
Went into season with no flair in squad

paid good money for players which were either not played or played in what was not their preferred position ( Berge and Brewster )

CW has been totally inflexible In His tactics and selection ( ie Lundstram)

Prince did not keep his promise re new training building

I am sure there are more but put it all together and there is lots of bad luck and lots of wrong decisions

Probably have to sell 1/2 since no crowds and relegation but a fire sale would be over top

I'd love it if they sacked him and then heard what Pep Guardiola said and though 'oh shit bad move' and backtracked

Possible reasons re delay to #SUFC statement;- * The backlash? * Severance terms hitch? CW not happy with offer? * If no deal, would CW say “sack me then”? * He’s wanted to stay...sacking not club intention. * How about going back to “The Plan”? Too sensible?

I think the settlement is the issue. I can’t help but think this has all been engineered and Chris wants the Celtic job. He has been far too public in his thoughts recently and nobody in any job does that and expects to stay. They are either enticing the sack or have a plan B. He will always be a legend and the last few years have been fantastic. This one however has also been a complete shambles and he also has to take that on the chin as well. Lucky dip striker selection every week and some poor signings are not all the princes fault. I hope I am wrong but something is wrong here and he most certainly has not fallen on his sword. Nor has he walked out the front door.

Could something like this have happened today?

PA: Chris, we appreciate your concerns, but the board and I have decided that a structural change will be beneficial for the club. Make no mistake, we’d like you to stay on as manager. However, we’d like to bring in some help. To get to the next level, we need to make more efficient use of our resources. This implies investing in scouting and generally looking more abroad for new signings. To oversee these matters we’d like to bring in a Director of Football to assist and help you with new additions as well as evaluating the current playing staff, planning short and long term. A new face may give us some fresh ideas when it comes to our style and tactics as well, we must not be stuck in one way of doing things.

CW: Not happy with this. If you’d supported me in the January transfer window we may still have had a chance of survival. I don’t want any recruitment help, I’m used to working with Alan, Paul and Chris, and it’s what got this club up from League One to the Premier League.

PA: And respectfully… back to the Championship. Chris, we do love what you’ve done for the club, but we feel we could have got better value for money if we’d looked beyond the country for additions the past year. We believed the funds you wanted in January would be better spent in the summer. Chris, you will still be the manager, the one who prepares and sets the team up and decide the tactics.

CW: I’m sorry, but this is an insult to everything we’ve achieved. All I asked for was two loan signings in January. This new “structure” is not what’s in my contract. I think it’s time we go separate ways. You’ll hear from my lawyer.

PA: Go home and have a few days to think about it Chris. The suggested structure is very much the trend in top level football today. It’s too much to handle for one man. We really think this is a way to get even more out of your ability as well.

CW: (Slams door)

Personally think this is exactly what's happened. However it's all speculation as things stand, and I highly doubt we'll ever hear the ins and outs.

CW: (Slams door, rings reporters) ?

I don't think this is over. I don't think today is argiung about compensation, clubs tidy that up afterwards. Axe falls, manager goes, compensation sorted between the lawyers in the following weeks / months.

I think Bert is spot on. Wilder has resigned and PA isn't accepting it. Remember PA backed him publicly early on this season, and hasn't deviated from that (with the exception of the JTW).

Going to be a very interesting weekend. I think CW has walked he hasn't been pushed.
